Suggestions Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback)

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a game discovery site and finally feel like it’s ready to share: https://nodal.gg/

I’ve always been surprised how hard it is to find genuinely good game recommendations on Steam, so I tried building something better using my stats/ML background.

My main takeaway was that “similar games” usually means two different things:

  • Similar in content: mechanics, themes, setting, genre, tags
  • Similar in audience: games played by the same people, even if the genres are different

So if you want recs for Cyberpunk 2077, you might mean “more cyberpunk vibe” (e.g., Cloudpunk) or “same audience overlap” (e.g., The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Fallout 4). The site lets you switch between those modes or blend them.

What you can do

  • Search any Steam game and see a ranked list of similar games using:
    • a content model (tag-driven similarity)
    • a community model (player behavior only, no tags)
    • a blended view (mix of both)
  • Re-rank results with sliders for popularity, rating, and release date
  • Plug in a Steam ID (public profiles only) to get personal recommendations and some cool stats about your play history
  • Explore an interactive 2D game map that visually clusters games by tags (uses UMAP dimensionality reduction - inspired by Connected Papers)

Desktop works best right now. Mobile is functional but I’m still refining it.

If you try it, I’d love to hear anything: whether the recommendations felt accurate, if the UI was confusing, any bugs you run into. All feedback helps!

Thanks!

Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Game with a cheesy asf protagonist

so I'm currently on a gaming fatigue rn, i would like to play games where the protagonist is cheesy and/or funny asf.
Some examples:

Resident evil, it's got leon s kennedy, need i say more?
i really enjoyed 2,4 and 9

007 first light, with bond, james bond
I really liked how cheesy he was, although the game was short i liked it

ik dante from dmc is also a good example but for that game seperately i think i want to wait atleast an year if they announce for dmc1 remake which i think is really plausible so I'll try that

oh also i like third person deep story games

Single player games where I can experience going up in the ranks?

What I'm asking for might be kind of strange, but I want a game where I experience the feeling of going up in the ranks, kind of like in Isekai animes where adventurers go from "silver ranks" all the way up to "mythril" or whatever stupid fantasy metal names they have for their high ranks. I want something like that! Ranking up and maybe the world reacting to my characters rank as it goes up. If possible id like it if it was a game where i could have a custom character.

Games I've tried: - Running with Rifles - Elin - Monster Hunter World/Wilds

Pls don't suggest: - Skyrim/Oblivion/Daggerfall etc I have no interest in elder scrolls ive played them to death

  • Kenshi (also played it a lot)

  • Kingdom Come Deliverance (people love suggesting that one for some reason)

-.... souls games? There's no rank climbing in those

Type of genre i'm looking for: - At this point, any that isn't city sim is something im willing to try

Any games that capture the cozy, "road movie" side of The Lord of the Rings?

• Upvotes

I just want to backpack across some pretty landscapes, see some pretty things, peruse local towns and roadside taverns, preferably in a fantasy or similar "sword and shield" setting. I basically just want to be a hobbit out on my first adventure, without any shits hitting fans.

Games like Skyrim and Ghost of Tsushima are great for the vibes, but at the end of the day you are still confined to the game area, which eventually you'd have completely cleared. It did occur to me while writing this that Minecraft could work.

Any other ideas for thee who wishes to wander?

Recommend me a game with an insane amount of destruction

Whatever that means to you. Maybe you can destroy everything, maybe you witness a lot of destruction. Chaos and things getting broken. Maybe it's unimaginable power meets very breakable enemies. Maybe you're Godzilla and wrecking trillions of dollars worth of infrastructure. Maybe you're overpowered and the scale and quantity of enemies you can lay waste to is epic in scale and imagination. Destruction!

Can you recommend me a game that will wreck me emotionally?

• Upvotes

I mean something like What Remains of Edith Finch, This War of Mine, Life is Strange, Detroit Become Human, Hitchhiker: a Mystery Game, or Twelve Minutes.

Something that will make me ponder life, cry, or just feel immersed in the game.

I'm burnt out, looking for a infinite replayability like Dwarf Fortress

Looking for something fresh to get lost in, set my own goals and play at my own pace, while allowed to make mistakes.
I tried Dwarf Fortress, but damn the learning curve is steep. I really dislike the need to learn from wiki, instead of the game explainig most stuff. Also the graphics are not my cup of tea.
I have a lot of hours in Project Zomboid, but I have always liked fantasy more. One ick I have about Dwarf Fortress was the weird creatures you can encounter like ''were-zebra''. That's too much for me, I like more Tolkien-esque fantasy.
One recommendation I got was KeeperRL and what caught my eye was that the settlements contained one race and they were all quite regular.

I don't care what the genre really is - turn based, real time, strategy, etc.

games with a cozy aspect but also combat, and perhaps a survival aspect?

• Upvotes

hi,

I'm wondering if any games exist which match this. sometimes i just want to sit and build a base or farm crops. But i also want doing so to give me some kind of tangible advantage in other areas of the game.

i know most survival craft games have this to some extent, but i feel like the balance is never quite right. I'll use Valheim as an example. you want to build a base and farm crops to make food and potions for the combat aspects of the game, but the range of crops available is extremely limited, as is the number of potions you can brew, and it takes very little effort to get far more of these few crops than you actually have any realistic need for.

I'm hoping for a game with really beautiful, varied landscapes, so that my cozy house has nice views, but also an active world where the objectives feel compelling. it's no good being able to farm food and make potions if the effects are trivial and the advantage they confer negligible or not useful (for instance, because the game is so easy that there's just no reason to put in the effort - I'd point to food in no man's sky as a shining example of this).

basically, i want to feel like my efforts are rewarded even when I'm not engaging directly with the game's progression system, and i want a world where this progression feels compelling and rewarding - building a towering mansion on an uninhabited planet just wouldn't do it.

edit: by 'cozy' i don't mean 'cute' or 'cartoonish'/pixel graphics. I'm thinking more along the lives of the gameplay of Stardew/animal crossing, not necessarily the appearance.

Games with fishing achievements that aren't fishing games

I'm looking for games on Steam that have achievements related to fishing, but I'm NOT looking for fishing games specifically. I mean games like SCUM, where fishing is just one of the activities you can do, and there's an achievement for something like catching 1000 fish.

Basically, I'm looking for games where fishing is just a small side activity, but the game has achievements for it, especially grindy or oddly specific ones.

Any genre is fine, as long as it's available on Steam. Thanks! :D

Games that are better with controller than mouse and keyboard?

I started using my PC a lot more often for gaming also I've gotten more used to mouse and keyboard. I also happened to have a friend give me this really cool controller since he has wrist problems and certain style controllers hurt his hand. So i've been trying trying to find some games where i'll actually prefer it but I just can't find any right now. The accuracy of the mouse even in games that aren't fps is nice to have.

I know fromsoft is well known for being much better on controller but I need a break from them. Are there other games known for this?

Games where you feel incredibly fast

I want to feel like going from 0-100 in under 5 seconds and then have that feeling multiplied. I want a game where you can feel speed. Doesn't have to be racing necessarily. What comes to mind?

Looking for PC games for a friend

A friend of mine has just got his PC, until now he has been playing on Playstation.

I need some suggestions what i could recommend to him that he couldn't enjoy on his Playstation until now.

He likes ARPGs, MMORPGs, Looter-Shooter, Souls-Likes, and generally action packed games he can play with friends. But feel free to suggest whatever, even if it doesn't fit what he has been playing until now, he is open to anything.

Mass Effect Dupe

So I absolutely love the Mass Effect games, I played all of them more than twice, and with BioWare shutting down I need a fix. a game that’s sci-fi, story heavy, with the potential to romance aliens it would bring a very sad girl a lot of joy.

Games where you encounter strangers in an open world

• Upvotes

I am posting it with a better, more understandable (hopefully) prompt.

Games where you encounter strangers (real people) in an open world, making it a less mundane experience. It could be friendly or not. Bonus points if it’s unpredictable.

On ps5 or Steam Deck

Are there any games that can match (or come close to) the metal gear solid series?

I just finished the metal gear series, and it was beautiful. But now I'm stuck looking for a game that can be as good as those games, either gameplay or storywise. Has anyone shared this feeling and found anything that can match it?

Grindy game that works really well with very short sessions, and works well on Steam Deck

I am looking for a good "number/bar go up" game, preferably action but open to turn based, which works well with short sessions that can be easily interrupted (i.e. pausable). I have a lot of 5-10 minute windows of downtime at my job and always have my Steam Deck on me, but it's hard to find something fun to play that I can interrupt when something comes in to do.

I love games with a strong repetitive loop that feels good to play. I like ARPGs like PoE/Diablo, but those tend to want longer sessions and don't interrupt well, same with other favorites like Warframe.

Any PvP game suggestions where you don't have to depend on just one person?

Hey guys, so idk if this is a thing since I'm not that much into gaming, but are there any PvP games that have like bigger groups so you don't have to depend on one person? Me and my bf have been playing a lot of PvP recently but I'm horrendously bad at it which takes the fun out of most of the games for him which I obv don't want. So are there maybe games similar to for example arc raiders that would fit into this category? We've also tried out games like gta and wardogs but those either weren't fun or got boring pretty quickly. Thank you if you might have a idea!

Games where I can control and master stormy magic?

I'm looking for a game where I can fulfill the fantasy of being a "stormbender", being able to wield water, lightning, and wind together to battle with the ferocity of a thunderstorm. Being able to summon rain and control the water around me, being able to call down lightning bolts from the sky or emit them from my hands, and being able to ride around on the wind or blow my enemies away, stuff like that.

Preferably it'd be real-time combat instead of turn based, and preferably it's a 3D game. Think like a Storm Sorcerer from Baldur's Gate 3 except not in a turn-based game.

Some extra notes:

  • I'd highly prefer if the lightning magic's colored blue instead of other common options like yellow, purple, or red.
  • If my character can be some sort of aquatic species or have an otherwise aquatic aesthetic, that'd be nice
  • Bonus points if I can wield a trident as a weapon, but not a strict requirement
  • I specifically do not want the "waterbending" to include control over ice

Looking For New Free To Play MMORPGs That's Not Anime / Cartoons / Top-Down

Pretty much the title, I hate MMOs that are anime / cartoony like FF or Genshin etc. and top-down like Lost Ark or Diablo and so on. Obviously I'm a classic WoW andy and I've also played a lot of SWTOR, I'm just looking for something new that I can learn together and make friends with in a new community, feels like it would be a lot more fun that way, no min maxxing and years of gatekept elite ball knowledge, everyone's still trying to figure things out and just play the game

Edit: I should clarify, when I say new, I mean new as in recently released MMOs within ~1-3 years, not new to me personally.
