Welcome back to Frog of the Week! Sorry for the delay... It's been a bit longer than I thought, let's get back on track. Submit a picture of your frog and its name for a chance to be featured in the next post! Will close in about 2 weeks or end of month, will decide soon!

Congratulations to Vercingetorix (r/laenxam)

Mod post New automations regarding NSFW and glove handling posts influx.

With the influx of posts containing sensitive photos that should be marked as NSFW I have made new implementations. I have made it so anytime you try to post on this sub, you are met with a warning to mark your post with NSFW or to not post at all. I hope this helps with the influx of shocking frog imagery some of you are met with by accident if myself or other mods can’t get to it in time. But of course people will still disregard this message and the rules because it’s the internet. We also don’t want to block all these posts into a queue just in case there is a medical emergency. (Which should be dealt with by a vet but we still allow discussion) but some people still need that message or confirmation of “Hey you NEED to go to a vet for this” so we do not want to block that outright.

Not all of the mods are super active, I tend to be one of the top mods doing the most removal/ nsfw markings as I can to help the sub but if we miss something please report it so we can see asap! We can’t do it alone, we need your help too!

However as a moderator, and even our sub owner, there are certain things Reddit doesn’t have automations for. We would love an automated system that if a post has keywords it is automatically marked as NSFW, but that is not a possibility we can do. If you can please suggest this to Reddit themselves, it would help so many animal communities regarding sensitive posts such as these.

That being said if there are any ideas or implementations you think we should add to this subreddit let me know by commenting it below. I would love to discuss on how to make this sub a better and more fun place for everyone.

Edit:

Please also read some of my comments I’ve said on this post already as well before posting an idea, since I have replied to a few for reasons why and why can’t we do something.

Found this Copes gray tree feller on a hike in the woods. Located in Appalachia somewhere. If anyone knows if this is full grown or a juvenile I would be interested to know. Only thing I looked up is that they were mildly toxic. Cool find for me wanted to share, I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them. If you love nature, nature loves you too if you listen close.

  • they survive through the winter by freezing solid!! Frog popsicle 🫠 😝🥰

I was walking in the woods near the beach on the northern end of Haida Gwaii when I spotted this little frogger. But, just barely! If it didn't move I wouldn't have seen it!

I don't know why it's that orange colour. Hopefully, I find out with a little help from people on the internets.

Mossy Frog Theloderma cortecale eating habits

Hey, i could really use some advice.. I'm not sure if I should be worried but I have my frogs for a little over 1 year now and the first (and bigger) frog is eating just fine, never misses a strike, super chill about feeding time but the smaller one is..

✨special✨..

feeding time is always a fight with him because I'm sorry but he has no aim at all! Normally it takes us 3-5 attempts before he hits his food.. hes always stressed when he misses it and sometimes swims away and I have to try a different time.

I'm used to that, it's annoying but nothing I'm super worried about.

Lately he's gotten a little more frustrated than usual, if he misses his strike and hits the tong instead he will bite on it super hard.

Today he (of course) missed again but this time instead of only biting down on the tong he tried to swallow the whole thing!!!

The whole thing was as far inside of him as he is long!!!

I was terrified.. he never did that and I'm super worried that it hurt him inside.. I use metal tongs with rubber endings, there are no sharp edges he could have hurt himself with and he is acting normal but idk that really terrified me! He would not let go and I had to gently touch him to get the tong out of his mouth..

Does someone have some experience with this? Could this seriously harm him one day?

Or maybe some of you have an idea what I should do so he's eating normally like his brother?

This has been happening frequently. This specimen is different from others I've seen. Darker green, orange speckles and a white line down the sides. Location is North Central Florida.

Other Best species for a 50 gal long/36x18x18 terrarium.

Due to recent events, I have had to rehome my Leopard Gecko, as I did not time to care for him over the past few months. I am now in a position where I am able to comfortably care for another reptile/amphibian, and I am interested in getting some frogs.

I still have the 36x18x18 terrarium and all the equipment from my Leo setup. My Leo’s setup was bioactive, so I am fine with building another bioactive setup.

What species would be best fitting for this size enclosure? And what extra equipment should I be looking at picking up to offer proper husbandry for the frogs?

Not sure if this is the correct subreddit to post this on, so please lmk if I should post this somewhere else!
I set up this terrarium for a whites tree frog and wanted to hear from some experts whether or not it looks ok. This is my first time ever owning a frog, so I want to make sure it will be the right environment for them.
