Discussion 2 Steps forward, 100 steps back

Opened my Firefox to do some work, I have tabs & tab groups saved for my personal & professional workflows. Apparently there was some update which it does instantly. It closes and reopens, to a bunch of visually corrupted tabs and icons. No words rendering. I go to close & reopen, and it looks fine but wiped my tabs, groups, workflows; ALL without saving it to the recently closed windows in history. resyncs instantly.

now I have to use fucking Claude to recover my history... Seriously? can they get it together and do some bug testing first??

That sounds like a really frustrating experience, especially if you rely on tab groups to organise your personal and professional work. Before assuming everything has been permanently lost, it might be worth checking Firefox’s session recovery files in your profile folder. Firefox can sometimes retain session data even when the tabs don’t appear in Recently Closed Windows. I’d also check whether the update triggered a graphics or profile issue, given the corrupted rendering you described. Hopefully you can recover the session without having to rebuild everything manually.

I recovered fine! Or had claude code do it, which sounds sad, but it had to directly edit the session file to uncollapse the tab groups for the bug to not trigger again. Very strange bug that triggers with collapsed groups on session restore.

You’re adamant that “last session” is neither working nor even present? Never happened to me. Storing and even naming sessions accordingly I find every helpful. Nonetheless this should not happen in the first place, agreed.

similar happened to me today. couldn't restore from last sesionstore as it was overwritten as ff opened., no reopen previous tabs.

It wasn't, only with this update never happened to me before either, corrupted launch overwrote the last session. I did have it in recovery, but yeah.

Have you reported the bug on Bugzilla.Mozilla.org?

They can’t fix it if they don’t hear about it. And they always say they do a lot of bug testing, so if you get a bug then it’s likely you’re one of only a few people who have that bug so they likely won’t hear about it without a bug report.
