Hollywood was really trying to make this Tom Cruise year with him winning an Oscar to cap it off. Guess those plans shit the bed pretty hard. Well, here's another different lifetime achievement award Tommy

That's a little generous to call a 70 year old cult started by a drug and alcoholic a religion, but I grant you scientology is JUST as real as all other organized faiths.

Strong argument for the biggest movie star of his generation.

Who else is in his generation? Kevin Bacon? John Travolta? I don’t know ages off hand. Harrison Ford is probably in an older one. He also comes to mind as someone who left a mark for sure

Bacon and Travolta had their time in the A list but they have both faded.

Tom has been a genuine star for the past 4 decades. Not many actors have remained relevant for that length of time. Cruise is truly deserving of his lifetime achievement award.

For Cruise his closest competition would be folks like Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Russell Crowe.

Bacon, Travolta, Oldman, Gibson are a bit older. Bacon and Travolta were never stars quite like Cruise anyway, and Oldman is a phenomenal actor but not a movie star in the normal sense of the term. Gibson is definitely a comparable star.

Yeah. Digger obviously won’t be the Oscar bait he was hoping for, but I don’t begrudge the guy some industry recognition. He’s a weird dude, but he loves making movies, runs his sets professionally, and isn’t an enormous asshole to his fellow actors and crew. And he clearly puts butts in seats, Digger notwithstanding. I’m ok with giving him a nice ‘attaboy for an impressive career.

Coppola might have to give his award back after “Megalopolis”.
