I have never been able to draw from life bc my brain can NOT translate 3D into 2D for some reason so this is sooo cool to me!
Love the duck!

Thanks!! It was very hard for me too at first. I luckily started to get it after tons of practice

What supplies or technique did you use to do the smooth shading? I love it!

Thank you :) I use a simple ballpoint pen. I prefer ones with a finer tip because they let me make cleaner more precise lines. I also like pens where you can control the ink flow more easily. Honestly just try any ballpoint pen you come across and if it feels good for drawing keep it and use it. As for smoothing, it's actually a bit gross but it works really well. I lightly touch my tongue with my fingertip and then use it to smooth the drawing. I learned that trick from Rembert Montald's sketching course, which is absolutely amazing!

There's just something about working with blue ballpoint pen. I will have to try that fingertip trick lol.

Lovely sketches. π₯° Also, i was genuinely looking for the dog because all i could see was the big plush duckie and I'm like... Is... Is that the dog?

Beautiful work!! How on earth do you get a ballpoint pen to shade the smooth shadows like that?? It almost looks like watercolor. Teach me your ways!

My dog was moving around constantly I barely had two seconds to look at her before she was in a completely different position. Her face is actually on the right, and she was laying half on the duck and half on the floor. I'm still learning to draw from life so obviously I'm not perfect at it. The whole point of drawing from life instead of from photos is to build your visual library and observation skills.
You're welcome to check out my profile though, I can definitely draw lol

Weird how animals and people are living creatures who both move.
I can easily see a dog's tail, back leg, and head with its ear flopped. Sometimes small dogs sleep like they're made of rubber.
The "extra duck head" looks to be a seam on the wing, which you'd understand if you studied her photo for like, half a second.

How did you learn to draw like that? (Genuinely interested, not the βI wanna try once and be good immediately) Iβve been drawing a while and while I do improve and have been taking classes I simply canβt grasp how to draw things I see, do you have any advice? Also I love your art and your dog

I am not an artist and don't know how I ended up on this sub. But I just want to say you (and other artists here) amaze me. I cannot imagine finishing anything remotely as intricate quickly enough for all the subjects to still be in the same location for you to take a picture.

This is a talent I really wish I had, I practiced but really never improved. Mind is full of art but I can't create it!
