While perusing documents about Dostoevsky's arrest in 1849, I came across a letter addressed to one General Ivan Nabokov. Incidentally, Ivan Alexandrovich Nabokov was the brother of Nikolai Alexandrovich Nabokov, the paternal great-grandfather of novelist Vladimir Nabokov.
As it turns out, General Nabokov was the chairman of the investigative commission in the Petrashevsky affair.

This is an important statement that was made by Dostoevsky in a letter to his brother Mikhail in August 1839, when Dostoevsky was only 18 years old.
It is amazing how early this concept influenced the literary career of Dostoevsky, from "Crime and Punishment" until "The Brothers Karamazov."
Which of his characters in the novels demonstrates this quest to explore human nature?
