I literally don't know who the hell turned this off or when, but videos are now allowed on /r/DarkSouls. No more need to link to YouTube or other external sites.
Enjoy!

EDIT: Added a comment below the post briefly discussing Cheat Engine and how it could be used as a pseudo method of restoring lost progress for anyone who didn’t have a backup save. The caveat might be that you can’t play online anymore after using it so double check me on that before deciding (I’ve not personally used it).
EDIT2: Thanks for the sticky! Any questions about the PvP Overhaul Mod should be asked on it's Nexus page. I personally don't mod the DS games so I have absolutely no idea what will or won't get you banned. Perform your due diligence! :)
Long story short, some doofus is ruining people's games by instantly killing Gwyndolin and any other NPCs in Anor Londo (blacksmiths, Solaire, etc). I believe this is only occurring on PC.
I've messaged the Mods requesting a stickied thread be made warning players of this and how they can protect themselves but in the meantime, I can make a thread myself that will at least get eyes on for like......today? lol
No.
You can absolutely still invade and be summoned for Co-Op to your heart's content. But it's important to be aware of the danger that's currently plaguing (seemingly specifically) Anor Londo and of the steps you can take to mitigate its impact on your experience.
This first tip is the BEST way to defend yourself, bar none.
Backing up your save is the difference between a hacker mildly inconveniencing you, and soul-crushing devastation that you'll literally need a day or two to recover from before deciding to even play again.
If a hacker ruins your game by killing NPCs or an unfortunate glitch has softlocked you or any other disaster befalls your play session, simply deleting that save and restoring a recently made backup can solve those woes immediately.
Here's how to do it (PC)
So let's say you get hacked and the Gwyndolin cutscene immediately plays and every NPC in Anor Londo dies. To restore your backup, you'll just delete the .sl2 file containing the "corrupted" game save and replace it with the copy you made earlier.
It's advised that you don't just paste and replace the .sl2 file when restoring your backups. Actually delete the compromised .sl2 file first.
This is just to protect yourself from any mistakes you might make as deleted .sl2 files can be recovered later. If you just paste and replace, the replaced file will be gone for good.
I recommend making a new backup after each hour of play to minimize the effects of a hacker or other form of corruption. That way if it happens, it won't be a big deal.
NOTE: The DRAK file contains all of your data for all of your characters. Backing up this file will back up ALL of your saved characters.
Full disclosure, I've not used this mod whatsoever as I don't often PvP, but word on the street in the wake of this string of hacks in Anor Londo is that it'll help prevent those hacks with it's own slew of anti-cheat and netcode improvements.
Understand though that these things are never foolproof and that backing up your save is still the BEST defense against hackers or other forms of corruption.
Hopefully this helps. Feel free to comment below if you have any other tips for preventive measures!

I had a client reach out and said her son's favourite game is darksouls and his favourite overall is Artorias but she wouldn't know much about it and asked if I knew..
Well she asked the right person, cos it's my husband's all time favourite game series..so I thought The Great Sword would so cool in stained glass 🗡️
I'm really happy with it :)

A warrior begins his ascent to the Undead Burg.

Fanart I recently finished. Started as a sketch, then ink outlines, and finally alcohol markers for color. I also made a couple of rough drafts and color tests before doing the final version.

I don't know what your name was because it was censored but you just gave me like 40 different titanite items and 35 humanities before we had an honorable duel (where I lost horribly) I was stressed because I was down to my last humanity trying to get solaire and I through O&S but you came in clutch before promptly slaying me. Thank you sincerely.

I'm setting up to do a Dark Hand Only run and want to avoid having to take it into NG+, given by the time I hit Gwyn, the damage will have DRASTICALLY fallen off. I'm trying to figure out the best rohte to get strong enough to take ijt the four kings early and get ONE hand, before turning around and farming a second one later.
My thought goes: Butterfly, Sif, Four Kings, and bring Beatrice for Butterfly and Kings for the bonus damage. Is there anything I should do to help myself out?

Did they kill or banish velka or what is going on? Shouldn't they just kill Gwyn for doing the sin of fire?
the giant ass crow in firelink should mean Velka is still powerful in this world because there are no giant crows in teh painted world.

Hello everyone, I probably didn't make the best option, but I started getting acquainted with the dark souls series from the third part, which part is better to go through next?

I've figured out a radical new way to use Dark Souls to cure depression. (first time playing remastered) Step 1. Be depressed Step 2 spend hours on the first level leveling up endurance and vitality as you get pwned by random enemies the second you forget this isn't PuBG. Step 3. Now that you're in a state of exhaustion from suppressed frustration and you blood pressure has spiked to 200, it's time to do pushups until burn off the adrenaline and the last remainder of your sanity. Depression cured. Something something male loneliness epidemic. Something something I'm a first year intern getting paid by Atlantic to pretend it's not systemic and write blogs nobody cares to read. See Mens-es-es are fine, let me tell ya.
For tomorrow's insightful-blog-TM : Everything I dislike is a fascism, including and especially working out from Dark Souls. How antiquated gender norms, definitely definitely not systemic well-known, scientifically recognized in all major journals facts about men having smaller social networks keep men depressed in atomized anomied fodder for bigtech exploitation in late capitalist dystopia (that only exist when we need it). Trust the science as long as it agrees with me or penguinz. All right wingers are grifter, but Dr. K not therapizing Rekfull off a 10 story building is just one of many experiments.
Alright, no time to waste on rube issues of male suicide or homelessness, that's just the patriarchy fooling ya'll. Time to go for the root of it all an eliminate man-spreading from the face of the eeeearffff! As an AOC representative my first ruling will be to relegate man-spreading to the ones who need it most: butch lesbians insecure about their masculinity.
It is my solemn duty to provide acccess to scarce man-spreading resources to make butch lesbians mog again. Namaste, m'lady--ies.

So I decided to start a new playthrough and go to tomb of the giants to get the silver serpent ring first thing, I'm trying to get out of the catacombs and the bridge that connects the little area that leads to the darkmoon seance ring to the rest of the catacombs is up and I have no idea if I can put it back down or if there's another path? I'd really like to escape because how I got down there to begin with was the shortcut that leads to vamos and Patches is in tomb of the giants.

1.Why did a snake with a head appear at firelink shrine 2. Why does every video i watch tell me to kill the guy in the gold armor that you release from a jail cell 3.Was i supposed to continue forwars after beating Quelaag? i saw the area with lava but it looked like there wasnt anywhere to go. 4.I have been to Undead Burg, Undead Perish, The depths, Blighttown, Darkroot Basin, Darkroot Garden, and Quelaag's Domain. Is there anywhere else i should go before i go through the gate i opened with the two bell's.

This took me about 2 hours of trying to pull off. It don't do nothin but I did it anyway.
If there's anyone else whose interested in doing this glitch, I do have a few tips that may help that I wish I knew before.
-As I'm sure most of you know, you need the Black Eye Orb, which you get after letting Lautrec kill the Fire Keeper in Firelink.
-You don't need to get the Chaos Blade or even talk to Shiva to perform this, I wish i woulda known that before hand.
-If your struggling to get the input timing down and are tired of the long and annoying reset, you can perform the same glitch off the side of the staircase leading to the tower in front of the boxes. Performing the glitch won't transport you, but it will still work and you can figure out your timing.
-I found that walking off the ledge, landing, pressing dodge, then jamming the item button works best rather than hoping you got the timing correct. I can't say it'll work for everyone, but that got me the best results.
-The videos I watched didn't explain the inputs in the best way, as they didn't breath once while explaining it, so ill explain it in a way that I wish they did for me.
Stand on the very edge of the box, preferably with both feet off the edge but not falling
Make sure you have the Black Eye Orb selected with a consumable next on the list, I did the Estus Flask.
Make sure you don't have any weapons in your right hand at all, both slots should be empty. That's an important detail the videos didn't explain.
With the BEO in the slot, press (square or x) slightly before pressing down and right on the dpad at the same time. Your character should shrug, the item should swap to the next one, and the weapon slot should light up. If you just use the next item on the list, you pressed them too close together. Item before swap.
Move forward off the box immediately after the shrug, (just hold forward during the animation). When you land you need to press dodge to cancel the fall animation. I'm sure most of you already do this in the main game anyway so you should know what I mean.
Immediately after pressing the dodge button, jam the item use button. If done correctly, you'll get a swirl effect while doing the item use animation for whatever item you've selected. If you did it wrong you'll either roll, use the item after the BEO, or finish the item swap animation.
If done correctly you'll get the effect as seen in the video. It took me probably about 30 or 40 attempts, but I hope my tips help you out.
Doing this gives you nothing really, but I think its cool to do just because its a quest line that FromSoft removed.

Hello. I dont play dark souls but my bf does. And for Christmas I got him a storage box and I want to paint it with something dark souls. I would love help picking a reference photo.
I think he has played all of them and I've seen him play dark souls on his steam deck. Idk if that helps.
But any suggestions would welcome.
Thank you.

I replayed the game after 10 years and breezed through the game, even parried a lot but I couldn't be bothered to learn Gwyns parry timing so I fought him normally.
After all the memeing about him being a pushover I was surprised to see he deals a lot of damage and almost doesn't give you healing windows unless you get him stuck on the rocks.
And then I remembered. I'm fighting him with a straight sword faith build and on my first playthrough I just pancaked him with a lightning zwheihander that I saw recommended online as a good weapon and didn't let him do much in the fight.
I'm so glad that it ended up being a fun, challenging fight and that the final boss was the one who took me the most tries in the entire game, honestly it made me respect more the character of Gwyn and now in my mind it really feels like he's a powerful lord of cinder.

As tittle says. I'm at the last part of my first Dark Souls Remastered run, im just 2 bosses short (it was an all bosses run as far as I know), but I don't get ANYWHERE near killing him lmao im losing my mind. No other boss gave me this much trouble in the entire game.
How many it took you guys to kill Manus?

Modern open-world design has gotten exhausting.
Playing through massive titles like Elden Ring made me realize how much I genuinely miss the tighter, focused design of Dark Souls.
Don't get me get me wrong, huge maps are cool at first, but they quickly turn into an endless marathon of searching for nothing. Instead of meaningful progression, we get a checklist of repetitive mini-bosses copy-pasted across the map just to pad out the runtime.
Dark Souls proved that you don't need a sprawling, empty continent to make exploration exciting. Lordran was brilliant because it was intricately interconnected. Secrets felt rewarding because they were hidden in a coherent, hand-crafted space that respected your time and gave you a real sense of direction.
Am I the only one burnt out by endless open-world filler, or do you also miss when developers prioritized quality and focus over sheer square footage?

There I was, grinding for the blue titanite chunks in the Dukes archives from those golems, I ran back towards the bonfire and after taking care of those crystal guys there it was. A red evil vagrant. I couldn't believe it, its been years since I last encountered a vagrant and completely took me by surprise. I should mention this was on my main character on my Xbox save file of Dark souls. I'm just amazed the online capabilities are still running, I still see plenty of messages and some glimpses of players at the bonfires EDIT this is the original Dark Souls on my xbox 360

Hey gang. I've been using the Astora Straight Sword for my Faith build, but noticed the damage has dropped off rapidly. I'm in Anor Londo and I'm struggling hard. I know the general vibe is to go for a blessed claymore. But I've hardly put any levels into strength or dex. What's a better alternative? I'm thinking of a normal longsword with blessed. Any other tips though?

Since I started souls via Elden ring I heard so many people discrediting people who finished Elden ring saying ds3 was way harder. Like what? Every single boss I kill either first try or under 3 tries. This is my second playthrough and I remember beating slave knight Gael in around 7 tries and the final boss around 5. Don’t get me wrong I love the game and the vibe but it’s not harder than Elden ring at all

I've been working on builds, and have a pretty great handle on dex and strength. With Int...yes, they can blow up bosses and anything that has a high HP bar, but they're still weak in a lot of ways. Hitting anything that knows how not to stand still or charge in a straight line can be rough, and taking out groups of those is that much harder. They need a melee weapon. And, they need to be able to take a hit while using said melee weapon.
At the same time though, they really want to invest into more int. Dropping points into anything else - let alone strength or dexterity - can set them back. So you want something with low investment, and low str and dex scaling. You don't need anything strong, but you do need something fast. But, the issue with fast weapons is, with the split scaling that magic/enchanted weapons get, these can end up doing very little damage, very fast. Spells can take you from Qualaag to O&S, but past that point, they really need something strong.
I can't believe it was staring me straight in the face this whole time.
There's only two pure magic weapons. And only one is available before O&S. I was dismissing it because it was a late game weapon that needed leveling on something that didn't scale, and Moonlight Greatsword was available right after it. But I was completely wrong.
Just use the thunder spear! Drop it a level, kill Moonlight before going into Sen's, and gather materials around Anor Londo. You'll have a +14 weapon for O&S, you can get it to +15 before doing anything, and now you can quickly and safely take out enemies that are too quick for your spells! All this with almost no work past killing an easy boss that you're particularly well suited to fighting.
Oh man why did this take me so long to find...now I just need to find a good way to get to O&S without working extra hard. Maybe I can get a weapon to +5 and buff it when I need a melee attack? I can get a weapon enhanced, but that split damage really hurts it. Plus upgrade materials are a pain to get.

I can't seem to find an old video years later from the initial release. I had thought it was one of Vaati's but after combing through it appears I'm wrong. It was a longer video that mentions the joke "How does Havel get in a watchtower? He walks." (or whatever it was) which is alongside the middle/second half of the video which covers Havel's relationship with the anti-god rebellion/cult. The first half covers the Crystal Knight, Edias' crossbow, and Seath to some extent alongside some of Seath's manipulations and survellience iirc.
I do believe the video was particularly long, but I could be wrong. I want to say it was 1hr and maybe up to 3hrs because of he sheer amount of lore it had to establish and explain.
Particularly I remember the title/thumbnail/opening statement mentioning that this bit of lore took so many years to put together because of how incredibly subtle it is and how if it weren't for a couple key details that were accidentally noticed/revealed/etc. then it likely would never have been found.
Thanks in advance and I don't remember too much else, but I could certainly try to answer questions to find it.
