Love isn’t just blind, it requires a full ophthalmology consultation.

tbf "jolene" was a dolly parton cover, so beyoncé was just reimagining an existing story

True but moot. Beyonce changed the lyrics from "...how you could easily take my man" to "...why you're attracted to my man". The focus in Dolly's version was on Jolene, not the man.
✅ meme is valid

the new ''jolene' is also written by Dolly herself. she is credited as the sole lyricist on Spotify. so it is a reimagination that they did together

Jay Z is rich af. He's also influential and talented. Even if he's not conventionally attractive, there's lots of other things he's got going on. Anyone who's hitting on Jay Z is trying to shoot up.
I can't believe I am saying this about someone I am not even a fan of. I just hate it when people meme in bad faith.

*her team of dozens of songwriters were reimagining the dolly Parton song. Beyoncé was on her phone in hair and makeup.

If you think Beyoncé hasn’t written any of her own songs you’re delusional lol. And also artists don’t have teams of songwriters. Songwriters write songs and then pitch/sell/auction them to artists.

Not to mention a lot of the credits on Beyoncé's albums are people in other bands because of samples and interpolation. You still get a writing credit if I use 3 seconds of a horn solo you played.

Beyonce didn't write "Jolene."

She didn’t write the version that people are most familiar with, but she did write a song called Jolene that was inspired by Dolly’s.

You're correct, I forgot it was slightly modified. The original meme here is weak af though.

u/blodgute 23h ago
Slightly modified in terms of the amount of words changed.
Massively modified in terms of meaning.

It's as if a height-of-his-popularity Justin Timberlake covered Radiohead's Creep, except it was from the POV of the girl's boyfriend.

Another "but they date men I think are ugly" post. As if that line of thinking wasn't uglier than these men by a long shot. Someone could be a 10/10 looks wise, but with posts like that they reach 0 even spreading disgustingness to those still interacting with them

While i definitely agree we shouldn’t be attacking/ judging people off of their looks, I can only assume that the reason the meme features these two in particular, is because they both had major cheating scandals. Jay cheated on Beyoncé, and Ethan left his wife and kid to be with Ariana
So i guess people just feel more comfortable making fun of people’s looks when they’re known cheaters, ig

I mean, Jolene was already Dolly Parton's song. Beyoncé just took the same story and gave it a different attitude

To be fair, had I not seen the artist's credits on the left, I would have assumed it was an excerpt from IASIP stage play "The Nightman Cometh", most notably from either "Tiny Boy, Little Boy, Baby Boy" or "Nightman".

beyoncé’s “i’m warning you, don’t come for my man” was such a serve after growing up on dolly’s pleading version

the original jolene was a desperate plea, beyoncé’s version hits with “i’m warning you” energy and i’m here for it
