Tracked this for a few weeks on my own sessions because I wanted to know where the limit actually goes. Biggest surprise: about a third of all usage went before the agent made its first edit, just reading the task, the rules and the code around it. Thats paid again by every new session

So what helped me most was not starting from zero so often. When a session gets long, I have it write a short note (whats done, whats left, which files matter) and continue in a fresh session from that. The fresh one reads about half as much before it gets going. Running fewer sessions in parallel helped too: they all read the same files and drain the same weekly window, just faster
