Forever My theory is that they added Sky Elves and Transmog to classic just to attract the large Retail playerbase
27
u/InternEven9916 16h ago
No shit
Like elfs are not almost 20% of whole retail playerbase.
Almost noone want to play ugly characters, look at concord for example.
Either make them hot or badass
-5
u/loopuleasa 16h ago
yes, you need a sexy class for both factions
especially important for the girl gamer playerbase
wow is actually full of female fans, my wife included
she cried when her Project Epoch character got deleted in the lawsuit, her priest even had Il'Ronash from Onyxia

u/Thekingchem 16h ago
They're for the Chinese and Retail audiences. They want Forever to be one game for all 3
-1
u/loopuleasa 16h ago
didn't think of chinese mmo audience, but true
all their mmos are anime elf character
4
u/Thekingchem 16h ago
Yeah they're likely made for the Chinese audience. This was at their Blizzcon the other day. They love immortal, angelic sky elf waifus.

u/norfolk232 16h ago
Blood elves were added in the tbc to the horde cause the asian girlfriends didnt want to play horde cause all their races were ugly.

Transmog to attract retail players is just a way to dismiss the feature without actual effort put into an argument against it.
People love to be able to dress up their avatar. Even before wow ever existed. Being able to look how you want is a core feature of role playing. Wow is a role playing game. Transmog is a natural fit, even for classic. Just because classic didn't have it doesn't change that fact.

u/Western-Law2837 14h ago
Transmog is being added to facilitate a cash shop for Retailers to give away their money faster, with a guarantee of no RMT cosmetics I would be okay with transmog
1
1
u/Dramajunker 12h ago
A cash shop would exist even if retail wasn't a thing.
Boosts existed in classic. People bought that. People bought gold in classic. Hell, people bought gold in the forever beta lol. Stop pretending classic players are above spending on mtx.

u/loopuleasa 16h ago
I prefer having to go find items to look nice
and if I want to look extra nice, I will wear a piece of gear that has less stats but look nice
a price must be paid
1
u/Faynerossa 16h ago
Been playing since 2007, I like transmog. I was happy when they added it in og wow. I'm happy they're putting it in this.
1
u/Dramajunker 15h ago
Plenty of people go and collect nice items to add to their transmog collection.
No one wants to spend precious bag space to carry around different sets of armor or pieces of armor just for rp purposes.
Try being a lock or any other class stuck carrying around multiple stacks of arrows or reagents. They can't afford to pay that price.

u/Volitar 16h ago
Sky elf players are the reason I'm gonna turn off other peoples transmog. I play Ally and Horde and so far the only people I've seen play with fully naked transmog are Sky Elf and its not even a rare occurrence.
1
u/tethysian 14h ago
Why did they even allow people to turn their clothes invisible? That wasn't a thing when they first added transmog and turns out there was a good reason.
2
5
u/LSines2015 16h ago
I’m pretty disconnected from all this discourse. What’s the argument against transmog?
8
u/AjayRedonkulus 16h ago
Something something level silhouette, something something I don't like change.
4
u/Cmon_You_Know_LGx_ 16h ago
If we’re not being disingenuous then the arguments against transmog are that in classic your gear is a direct reflection of your character’s power and progress. If you see a player in full T3 and you’re only in your pre raid BIS you know you can’t mess with them in PvP etc and the same goes for yourself if you are the geared on where it almost buys you a level of security in the world. maybe in a BG you’d target and pin down the massively geared warrior first whereas if you could see he was under geared you’d prioritise him last. Transmog (if you opt into it) ruins that.
Then you’ve now got to contend with people rolling on items that you need as a direct upgrade because they want to use it for their silly little dress up simulator which we know full well will be happening. So even though I haven’t opted into the feature, idiots that do will now be impacting me.
Not to mention the majority of transmoggers are going to be little virgin weebs in their elf slut mogs. Just makes the game feel cheap and un immersive.
6
u/loopuleasa 16h ago
to be honest, it is trash you cannot tell a horde skelf from an alliance skelf apart :(
4
u/AjayRedonkulus 16h ago
If only there was a massive Orange/Red name above them to help distinguish.
1
u/Manzhah 16h ago
Tbf, that might suck if you are red/green colour blind. However there should be better accessibility options to deal with that.
1
u/LSines2015 15h ago
I’m red/green colorblind but I’m so used to wow now that when I turn the colorblind settings on it looks very strange to me
1
u/Budget-Savings-1901 16h ago
There are more to that question.
First to answer your question, reason = "#No changes", more or less. It's a retail feature, some people don't like that.Secondly, there has been a lot of discussion regarding the starting items from the Skyborn is to detailed/nice for a low lvl item. Normally in classic, the better looking items ususally meant it was a really nice blue or high lvl items. But in the starting zone you get a white item looking better than most other good items. Which is kinda against the visual progression for items.

u/VlaaiIsSuperieur 16h ago
Something something #nochanges in my classic plus. If it isn't exactly like Classic I don't want it and no I don't want Era!!

u/BottleEquivalent4581 16h ago
Yes, it's retail player's fault, not the money hungry company

No real world politics or religion.
These topics very rarely end well, so it's best we stop things before they even start.
2
u/poozyWagon 16h ago
honestly it’s not that I mind the elves. it’s just that their identity feels very diluted as cross-faction which is very anti-classic. Blood elves back in TBC looked badash cause we know they BELONGED to the horde. These guys? Meh.

u/loopuleasa 16h ago
I also hate cross-faction, their long name, and how bad they look as the icon in char creation

As someone who dropped retail for classic. Sky elves are not the reason why. Neither is tmog.
For me it comes down to gameplay. Retail became a version of the game where min/maxxing is the only thing that matters. It has changed from its roots into a fast-paced, lobby-based, seasonal treadmill. You basically need to be a pro gamer that reads every single guide on every single content and crush the numbers daily. In order to play.
I dropped it cause I am tired of reading guides and min/max everything. I want a slow paced game. I want to fuck about and find out instead of having to watch youtube videos on most optimal dungeon paths. And raid bosses. I just want to go in blind, make a talent build that might not be the most optimal but it is based on what I want. And just have fun with the game instead of playing what is absolute meta this season.
Most retail players will join Forever cause its the new shiny thing. Maybe rush to 60 by spamming dungeons. Do the raid. Complain there is no heroic and mythic raids and that content is too easy. And go back to retail.
Where those of us that want to play classic but it lacks some QoL that Forever provides will happily do the switch.
I was sold on Forever based on what was said at Blizzcon. and I dont find the sky elves as fitting to the classic game. Nor do I think their gear models and texture is in the best interest of classic+ as it stands out.
But I also listen to Blizzard and they said it is something they are aware of and that SD models are coming.

u/EggPsychological4844 16h ago
This was 100% written by somebody who did not quit Retail for Classic.
Also, rush to 60 spamming dungeons? Bro. Lmfao.

u/NotThatSiri 16h ago edited 16h ago
Really? Then what have I been doing on retail? Since my highest character is level 60 and last time I logged in on it was in 2022. Please enlighten me what I been doing then. Cause I really want to know.
Besides clocking almost 90 hours on Forever beta. and currently doing dailies on tbc classic. I would really love to know what I am doing on retail since my characters been idle for 4 years.
---
The dungeon XP that was nerfed got buffed again cause people want to level through dungeons. Are you new to this community or something? It was the hot topic for like an entire week till Blizzard buffed the XP from dungeons. Now you can level from 1 to 30 in 3 hours was it some min/maxxer did it in.
1
u/EggPsychological4844 16h ago
The dungeon exp "buff" is nowhere near high enough to make it remotely close to viable. Also, dungeon grinding hasn't been the Retail way to level in yeeeeeears unless you're a tank.
Nobody leveled 1-30 in three hours without an exploit that wasn't tied to dungeons at all.
Your entire post just screams "Classic Andy lying about his experience being a Retail convert to hopefully draw a few more upvotes from other Classic Andies"
Bugger off.
1
u/NotThatSiri 16h ago
So which one is it. 100% retail player or classic andy? You cant have it both ways moron.
1
u/EggPsychological4844 15h ago
I never said you were a 100% Retail player.
I said you never quit it for Classic.
You're the worst kind of Classic Andy
1
u/NotThatSiri 15h ago
But I am not a classic Andy. Most classic Andys hate me for the posts I have made.
1 being about the lighting and the fog and wanting it back. The other being about the ghost wolf being too bright. In both cases I was told to fuck off right back to retail.
And now I am pissing the retail players off and being called an Andy. Holy fucking hell. That must make me the perfect candidate for Classic+ Since I hate on enough things from retail to make me a classic andy and I like enough of the QoL changes that Classic Andys calls me a retail player. This is really a fun day.

Siy elves are the most basic bitch option out of the races designed for everyone checking out wow that doesn't care about the lore or the setting.
It's like those MMOs made of anime characters where the world is so boring and bland but ppl can just play pretty characters.
4
u/MrMimeWasAshsDad 16h ago
Reminds me of playing a Korean mmo, Tera Rising, where 90% of the playerbase were playing these…underdeveloped anime lollitas(that are actually hundreds of years old 😉) except for me who was playing a fat, little husky dog priest.
1
u/imaginebeingsaltyy 16h ago
Hm yes sky elves are the most basic bitch option and surely not human.

u/loopuleasa 16h ago
it's a generic final fantasy elf to me
2
u/HordeDruid 16h ago
they're less generic fantasy elf than high elves tbh, I appreciate that they added new lore to the game and gave us something unique to start

Wouldn't surprise me, i'm sure theres a few accounts that have only blood elves as playable race and Blizzard were afraid of losing the blood elf playerbase

I am gonna play a sky elf and use xmog even more now than I originally planned to
1
u/diesel_0nly 16h ago
I am a classic wow enthusiast but I welcome the changes they’ve added into wow forever. I also like the idea that you may turn off transmog if you want so you don’t need to see that stuff.
1
u/Jindujun 16h ago
That argument falls flat when you realize that transmogs can be added in any which way even without sky elves.
With that said it's probably easier to sell people a brand new race than to charge for High Elves or Blood Elves.
1
u/StanisBlack 14h ago
Just like I think horizontal progression was for all the players that have quit.
If they are adding retail features, Hopefully they port player housing into forever.

1
u/NorthKoreanKnuckles 16h ago
And to give griefers more targets in World PvP. It's a win win situation.
1
u/Chunky_Monkey4491 16h ago
They added Skyborne because corporate wanted to find a way to paypig classic+ when the original plan was just to add high / blood elves.
-2
u/_laudanum_ 16h ago
of course. and now they paid for forever to exist in the first place with hugely overpriced beta and race access packs. so say thank you and enjoy your classic+

As an only classic player I don't see any problem with this as long as it the outfits won't become a circus.

They wanted elves on release and are saving Quel'thalas for a big content patch down the road. It's that simple.

Yes? I don't think anybody has denied this.
