No matter what they do, on day 1 of the release there will be level 20s mysteriously appearing.

50

u/staplepies 2d ago

There will be legitimate level 40s on day one (maybe high 30s) assuming you mean the first 24h. Speed runners are getting to 30 in the 12-14h range, and that's just what's publicly known.

6

u/totkeks 2d ago

Is this solo or groups?

6

u/staplepies 2d ago

Both. I don't know about duos but it looks like Ahmpy is going for 5-man and then there's a bunch of solo people, mostly hunters. It will be interesting to see what tech people find because the biggest tech recently on leveling was non-mages (particularly hunters) leveling in ZF all through the 40s, but I doubt that's viable anymore with the dungeon mob XP nerfs.

2

u/Danger_Mysterious 2d ago

How is group questing faster though? You just do optimized routes of kill quests vs the collection quests or something? But there can’t be enough of those, surely?

1

u/staplepies 1d ago

I don't know how they're doing it. I would guess that because there are way more quests and zones they can cherry pick the most optimal quests plus run the dungeons and go through all of them super quick as a group.

1

u/rcanhestro 1d ago

but I doubt that's viable anymore with the dungeon mob XP nerfs.

it's still somewhat viable, XP looks shit in a dungeon when there is 5 people there.

solo dungeons of the same level should give decent XP still (still lower then before).

the biggest issue for dungeon solo boosting is the AoE changes.

2

u/Dreamiee 2d ago

I mean I'm not that good and I got to 20 in just under 8 hours completely ssf. Probably puts me at 16 or so hours for 30. So I imagine speedrunners are beating that by 20% or more.

1

u/ehhish 2d ago

And they won't affect me at all. I'll be enjoying being level like 9.

1

u/Noucron 2d ago

How?!

5

u/ggiodddtyii 2d ago

Every step practiced and routes optimized so much prep and possibly help from others

6

u/beren12 2d ago

Also getting ahead of the curve you don’t have competition

1

u/ggiodddtyii 2d ago

Yeah that happens really fast in the beginning.

4

u/ThatLeetGuy 2d ago

Hyper optimized quest routes. Questing is insanely fast if you know exactly what to do. Which makes it all the more ironic that they want to dumpster dungeon exp and push questing as the only form of leveling when everyone (including the developers) just downloads speedrunner guides to tell them what to do and where to go without having to think about it or actually engage with other players.

1

u/staplepies 2d ago

Ahmpy seems to think he has a good shot of winning as a 5-man, and I think they're planning to do a lot of dungeons. Doubt any dungeon grinding though, so in terms of total time it'll still probably be like 20% dungeons at most.

1

u/SlammedRides 1d ago

Who knows how easy it will be to level with laggy servers and people fighting over tags, but in the beta - as a NON experienced level speed runner, I was curious what my best time would be. 2 different characters, both to level 10 in 1hr55min and 2hr10min. Both to level 19 (got bored and didn't finish out 20 lol.. both did 1 dungeon) right about 15hr and 16hr~. I think world record classic/era was like 55 hours - I imagine there will be 60's within 4 days... just not many.

22

u/Some-Lingonberry-211 2d ago

I mean it's not mysterious. Not sure about the record to 20 but I saw someone on the beta go 1-10 on a warrior in 80 minutes with no weird exploits. So 1-20 can't take more than a couple hours for the speed runner freaks.

9

u/Jesta23 2d ago

I did 1 to 5 last night just to test how questing vs killing mobs went. Since the quest mobs will be fully camped at launch.

33 minutes questing (no competition)

38 minutes just killing mobs. I also went  straight to level 3 enemies since I assumed the level 1-2 mobs are the initial quest mobs and they’d be getting tagged immediately.

Anyway 1-10 for me seems like it might be closer to 2 hours.

3

u/keaganwill 2d ago

Genuine question as someone who only experienced wotlk classic launch.

Will druid questing zone be fully camped as well? I was figuring i would just go for Tauren Druid to bypass the starter zone blockade. But if not I guess I'll just do the route to get flight paths

10

u/themoosh 2d ago

every starting zone will be packed at launch. they want you to experience the hype of a massive crowd at launch since it's one of the things people talk about fondly.

my personal experience on day 1 of the beta was that aside from the login issues, the gnome starting area was packed but totally playable.

just know when to skip a quest, don't wait around trying to click doodads faster than 6 other people, just go next and you'll be fine.

I will say that I switched to skyborne and suddenly it was way less crowded. Can't say if that'll be true on launch but I have a feeling it will be.

A ton of people will want to try forever with their existing sub and I would guess most of those people won't have bought skyborne yet.

2

u/Jesta23 2d ago

Well in beta Druid was one of the most popular classes. So I want to say yes. But on the other hand I feel like Tauren will be a lot less popular for Druids since I’m the new race is there.

Might have to just play it by ear.

1

u/Fish_Mongreler 1d ago

No it wasn't

1

u/Jesta23 1d ago

Classes

Hunter 17.2%

Paladin 12.8%

Druid 12.6%

Warrior 11.6%

Shaman 10.1%

Rogue 9.8%

Priest 9.7%

Mage 9.2%

Warlock 7.1%

1

u/dkooo 1d ago

Some classes are just faster to level 10. Warriors are really fast, bc there is nearly no downtime for Drinks and you always pull at least two mobs. I got 1:12 on the beta. Pala is also very fast. Hunter makes up for it when they get the pet.

1

u/malkontent86 2d ago

1-10 in 80minutes is nothing for a Hunter, Rogue, Paladin, Warrior - not even a record pace.
It's the pace of someone who follows a RXP speerdunning guide

3

u/Noctaem 2d ago

world record is with a paladin doing 1-20 in 5 hours and 45 minutes.

1

u/Unusual-Mirror7054 2d ago

now look at the 1-10 record

3

u/Noctaem 2d ago

Paladin, 57 minutes and 9 seconds.

2

u/Unusual-Mirror7054 2d ago

oh, i thought you were trying to counter the prior guys argument by saying the 1-20 run is 5 hours, you were agreeing with him. confused myself

1

u/Worlds-Creation 2d ago

I did 1-13 in 1 hour 25 mins, don’t know if that’s good or not but that’s what I have.

1

u/malkontent86 2d ago

10

u/Stunning-Counter-806 2d ago

You’re a ways off. I did 1-20 as a shaman in 9hr 45min. I was following a guide and have a fair amount of game knowledge but far from a speed runner.

2

u/i_Danny_Brutal 2d ago

1-20 took just under 7 hours grinding mobs, though i didn’t loot and had BoE gear in bags (including blue weapons), 20-30 took only 4.5 hours as mob respawns were hyper and with Recovery enchant + the 5% legacy talents i never needed to stop.

I’m sure we’ll see 60s within 48 hours if servers don’t keep going down.

2

u/Sirael 2d ago

1-20 World record on a hunter in Era is 5 hours btw. Level 30 will be ~14 hours.

1

u/Noxm 2d ago

It was 12h for my rogue and my mage only questing and doing the dungeons.

1

u/Plamenaks 2d ago

With forever you're gonna hop straight into your first dungeon at 12 and enjoy the quest xp straight to 14, do required prequests for your second dungeon and those along with said dungeon will ride you smoothly to just about level 17-18. If you really wanna speedrun 20 you'll go horde as a mixed UD+nonUD group can get all quests for both rfc and UC ruins within half an hour and share them, excluding quest chains to be done personally. Doing those two should set you up for WC, which admittedly could be the biggest time sink of them all, but doesn't compare to the bottleneck that defias quests will be for Alliance. Aand those three should ride you to 20 within an afternoon, assuming you have a smooth run.

2

u/Noctaem 2d ago edited 2d ago

In the beta I was able to do the following on multiple characters on alliance.

1-14 starter zone normal questing.

Soon as I hit 14 I went and gathered the 4 quests for Hall of Thanes. I did 2 runs, to gather as much loot as I could. Doing that and handing in all the quests leveled me to just into 16.

I jumped into Ruins of Lordaeron and did the 5 quests there, plus one extra run for gear. That leveled me to 18.

Go for Deadmines, gets you to level 19.5 with all the quests. I skipped 2 two in the mine outside the dungeon because they are annoying.

Then did the quests in Wailing Caverns, 2 runs (annoying deviate hides) which leveled me almost to 21.

At that point I went to Redridge and did all the quests for the zone, especially the higher level and elite quests. Got me to 22 almost 23.

Jumped into stockades, did 6 of 7 quests in there between the 2 runs (1 quest requires level 25 from wetlands), got me to 24.

BFD quest run + second run got me far into 25.

Wetlands quest chains to get the Excavation Site quests unlocked then running that twice got me 26.5.

Did SFK for gear twice. No quests but the xp wasn't that bad and the gear helped.

Jump into Dalaran and quests for almost 28.

Jumping into RFK and running that twice, along with quests, got me to 29.

Went back to wetlands to do all the elite and high levels quests there to finish at 30 but probably would hit or get close to 31 there without the cap.

It's incredibly fast and reliable. Dungeon leveling is not dead at all. It's just not designed for you to run the same dungeon over and over. 2 runs max as you level is the sweet spot I discovered along.

2

u/karemili 2d ago

Your second run for gear is a complete waste of time if you want to be fast. Going wc is probably only worth it if you can get a summon. Dm quest with escort is only worth it if you beat everyone else to it. Excavation you skip 95% of all mobs.

1

u/Noctaem 2d ago edited 2d ago

Disagree, not having good gear slows you down. Doing 2 runs didn't impact me much and provided very valuable gear upgrades that carried me in the non-party sections of my leveling progress.

Going WC is useful because you can swim from westfall to BB -> ratchet and that gives access later to the other dungeons in the barrens for leveling and even later to the level 30-40 zones south of it. So disagree there too.

DM quest is worth it because you can group to get it done and it's a straight forward process. The quest rewards are also very strong for their level range. Disagree for the third time.

Excavation you do skip lots of mobs beyond what you need for the quests, like the 4 hides. You do have to kill mobs for the quests to complete them. Disagree about skipping 95%. Also, what does skipping mobs in that specific dungeon even have to do with what I wrote in the first place

You should think more before posting instead of regurgitating what you have heard others say or write. I spoke from my experience on multiple characters. You spoke out of your ass just to be a contrarian.

4

u/karemili 2d ago

You are taking about "incredibly fast". You won't be incredibly fast and get ahead of the masses by doing a very suboptimal route. I rather get 30 in 15 hours than following your route with multiple dungeons that require travel times and clearing for gear a second run.

Play however you want but don't mark it as something that it's not.

1

u/Fish_Mongreler 1d ago

Incredibly fast? No, this is incredibly unoptimized. No one who wants to go fast as alliance is running to RoL. Not even going to touch all the other bad suggestions

1

u/VoidVer 2d ago

I have a full time job and assuming the servers actually work on launch day I expect to be lvl 40 by end of Sunday.

-5

u/Ok_Comedian_4396 2d ago

Level 20 even for speedrunners takes at least 10 hours champ

4

u/dRIgUhD_ 2d ago

speedrunners do it in around 6 hours...

3

u/Contentenjoyer_ 2d ago

Least clueless redditor

2

u/Kind_Ability3218 2d ago

and how many hours are in a day again?

3

u/Feature_Minimum 2d ago

Level 20? Bro on day one that might be me! In classic 2019 launch, I was about about level 18 after 6 or 7 hours and capped it off with a DM run. I was pretty sweat, but I saw much crazier than that. There were people level 45 after a day.

Yeah they've slowed some of that down a bit now, but I think you're vastly underestimating speed runners. I think the first 60 will be there within the first week easily, and probably within the first 4 days.

1

u/beren12 2d ago

We had the first 60 in classic I think in like 38 hours?

1

u/Feature_Minimum 2d ago

Yeah that sounds about right. Jokered I think, on his mage.

1

u/beren12 2d ago

Yeah sounds familiar.

1

u/lookzlike 2d ago

there will be ppl lvl 55+ within the first 48h.

2

u/Cold_Midnight_3025 2d ago

lvl 20 on day one is nothing special, you just need skip the sleep on this day

4

u/wizardent420 2d ago

They should revert chars and punish people for knowingly participating in exploitative behavior like any other reasonable online game does

8

u/panlakes 2d ago

Exploit early, exploit often. Welcome to wow

1

u/beren12 2d ago

It’s not an exploit. It may be unintended by blizzard but what do they expect with repeatable quests where you can buy the items?

It’s like bitching about leveling up to 60 with zg turnins.

2

u/panlakes 1d ago

That is the definition of an exploit. Something unintended being taken advantage of. Doesn’t need to be a bug.

2

u/beren12 1d ago

It’s not unintended behavior it was designed that way.

The unintended part would be that people would actually do the quest.

As I said it’s almost no different from zg tokens to power level in 10min.

1

u/DissKhorse 1d ago

They already patched it out because it was an exploit silly.

0

u/beren12 1d ago

It’s not an exploit if you are doing it as designed. Sigh.

0

u/c0z3nPapi 1d ago

Wasn’t an exploit. You need to learn the fkn definition of exploit.

1

u/c0z3nPapi 2d ago

Yeah dude. It’s always super easy to figure out if it’s intended or not.

1

u/beren12 1d ago

It was intended to be done multiple times.

1

u/c0z3nPapi 1d ago

I’m talking about ALL mechanics. Not just this one. Like the ZG one that was intended but gets mislabeled as an exploit.

No one knew how to minmax that shit in a timely manner back then and it carried over.

0

u/wizardent420 2d ago

Sure I mean someone who’s level 60 in 5 hours /played isn’t suspicious at all

0

u/c0z3nPapi 1d ago

I’m addressing knowing whether or not game mechanics are always obviously exploits to the PLAYER.

You’re picking the blatantly obvious method for developers catching extreme shit.

Splitting hairs dude. How the fuck you went that route is beyond me.

0

u/wizardent420 1d ago

It’s really not that hard to extrapolate that if a method exists to hit level 60 in 5 hours when traditionally it can take people 200, it’s an unintended use of a mechanic. There’s no excuse for the feigned naivety of “Oh well how was I supposed to know”. Use your brain.

0

u/c0z3nPapi 1d ago

Bro. You’re being a dense and daft cunt.

You’re talking about one instance.

I’m talking about 1,000s.

Not all 1,000 are going to produce the same result.

Not all mechanics are exploits.

Not all mechanics are clever use.

In general, as I fucking stated originally, it’s not always blatantly obvious for the player if said random mechanic in question is intentional or not.

If you still cannot comprehend that, I have the crayons on standby.

1

u/wizardent420 1d ago

No shit I’m talking about one instance. It’s what this whole post is about.

Don’t try and flip it like you were trying to address some grander issue of players not given clear direction on some imaginary “1000s of instances” that came out of thin air when this entire post is addressing one instance. “What you stated originally” used an ambiguous reference “… if it’s intended or not”, and using context clues it’s obvious the “it” would have to be referring to the one instance this entire fucking thread is dedicated to.

-1

u/Rocinante88119 2d ago

Or fix their shitty game that is now the 3rd version of the same fucking game instead of doing anything new or innovative.

Warcraft 4?

Naaa, 3rd subscription based version of our 25 year old game.

Fuck Blizzard.

3

u/PriorStock6243 2d ago

"fuck blizzard" why are you here then?

-1

u/Rocinante88119 2d ago

Because it showed up on the front page and they used to be a company worth a shit.

Haven't made a new game in over a decade, just remasters and reskinning things people made that they fired in 2015.

0

u/c0z3nPapi 2d ago

I loathe this lazy social media “clap back” so much. Immediately puts a big neon sign over their head; “I’m logically incoherent. Will deflect the issues regarding the topic and think disliking something means severing all contact. No merit to discourse due to your presence.”

1

u/daily-lurk 2d ago

20 is very much achievable for the first day, especially if you get ahead of the pack

-1

u/moresecksi37 2d ago

Level 20 is like 5-7 hours max if you know what you're doing. It's not weird

5

u/Zarianin 2d ago

The world record is 6ish hours depending on class. That's not just someone knowing what their doing. That's literally the fastest person in the world

1

u/beren12 2d ago

Well maybe they shouldn’t use vendor items for a repeatable quest.

2

u/sabe1234 2d ago edited 2d ago

Oh yeah, that’s really not true at all. 5-7 at max 🤣🤣🤣clown.

Edit: sure, from 12 down to 5 hours. Your training went well, hum? https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/s/NX4E3J0aOZ

0

u/TSW__ 2d ago

What he said is correct though? There's plenty of runs out there you can go watch.

-1

u/sabe1234 2d ago

No, if you know what u r doing, u do 1-20 in ~10hrs. Gingi is preparing for WF60 and he has ~7 hrs 1-20 where ppl trade him quest items while running and stuff like this. That’s not just “knowing what he is doing”.

1

u/TSW__ 2d ago

The fact you're bringing up Gingi as some gotcha tells me all I need to know. Again, I'll refer you to the internet to find solo runs sub 7 hours.

-1

u/sabe1234 2d ago

The fact that you are not even once touching any arguments tells me everything I need to block you

-1

u/moresecksi37 2d ago

I said 12 is EASY - doesn't change my above statement

2

u/sabe1234 2d ago

Gingi has currently 7h for 1-20 in his preparation for wf 60. To say that 20 in 5-7 max if u know what u r doing is just claiming it would be super easy. Average person will need at least 12 hours to do it 1-20 w/o professions. Would love to see some screenshots of your beta chars

2

u/moresecksi37 2d ago

Imagine playing beta. It's the same exact shit with some added stuff, which makes it more or less the same/easier. Name dropping a streamer/retail player for forever speed is strange tho

-2

u/MagnusKitus 2d ago

There was a group of 5, who hit 20 in 15 hours

8

u/Heldentaten 2d ago

Level 20 in 15 hours is not exceptionally fast though?

-1

u/dareftw 2d ago

Not even close. 3 hours to 10 is a standard “quick” pace which you can get the next 10 in 6 ish hours if you’re not unlucky.

1

u/Low-Importance-1005 2d ago

3h to lvl 10 is garbage.

2

u/Devboe 2d ago

That's not fast at all. I hit 20 on multiple classes under 12 hours. my fastest was 11 hours and 10 minutes. This was SSF without a guide.

1

u/Zarianin 2d ago

I got to 30 with 1d6hr play time so thats not too weird

1

u/staplepies 2d ago

There's a group of 5 who hit 30 in <13h.

0

u/MagnusKitus 2d ago

Mb, but by the time 20lvl was cap)
