Forever Beta Feedback Phasing like this is really immersion breaking

I understand why they do it, but it feels like there has to be a more elegant way of handling it, or perhaps a better "overlap" period where someone only moves off your layer when they are no longer visible.

Yep, this looks more like the retail sharding that has been part of the reason why the world is dead there :)

its because it is retail sharding. They said at Blizzcon that the base of WoW Forever is the retail Client. It appears that they just kept a lot of systems from that client (probably because it was less work that way, since the team was small and wowf was barely 2 years in development). I assume thats why we got sharding, the retail UI and the SD models, which are retail models with classic textures, etc.

I see your point, but these things are not related. The client just shows what the server on Blizzards end sends you. Most likely all versions of WoW use the same backbone but with different configurations. I think the more reasonable conclusion is that they have used the retail server configuration as a base with some adjustments.

yeah, i guess the problem are the mega servers. There must be some technical issue with layering on such a large server, hence they use sharding. They would have hundreds of layers if they did it like it is on era.

Yeah, more testing on my end makes it seem like you span multiple shards, where if you for example stand outside org, you will see people from your own "durotar shard" normally, but they also see the other people in the "orgrimmar shard" + the "durotar shard". With some clever engineering this could actually work really well, but they probably need time to work it out.

i understand that. My point was more that it looks like they didn't have enough time to develop these systems, like the sharding, to a degree that they work well with classic. So we basically have the retail sharding now, wich might work well for retail, but apparently not that well for wowf. Hope they can improve the systems once the game is out and they have some more time.

Yep. This shite is totally unnecessary.

Not really, no. It was just less obvious when we had distinct realms with fewer layers.

Yes. In fact this isn't layering this is sharting.

No. It's always been like this at the gates of org
