Forever Beta Feedback Phasing like this is really immersion breaking

I understand why they do it, but it feels like there has to be a more elegant way of handling it, or perhaps a better "overlap" period where someone only moves off your layer when they are no longer visible.

If you wanted to catch up to someone as they were running out of the city, they would just vanish. Spooky

I was running in Arathi with like 25 people heading to the Wetlands for the sleeping bag quest. I was excited all these people were around me. As soon as I entered the Wetlands I was by myself not one person was with me.

Fuck that sucks - I hate it that theyre not communicating about this to us. They need to fix this shit before launch, they must.

They won’t, they’re completely ignoring it

Did you watch the first podcast? They literally said they are aware that it feels bad and they are working on a solution.

You can hardly blame classic players for feeling like they will be neglected after 7 straight years of dealing with so many of the exact same problems

And some of those exact same problems were in vanilla! For some of us it's been what, 22 years of the same shit over and over. Haha...

Forever needs more time in the oven. Blizzard should be in the polish stage this close to launch.

Maybe they could do some server meshing shenaningans. Like, already decide which layer you would transition into and already show the people from that layer, or even have separate complete servers that mesh together just like the tech Star Citizen was experimenting with.

In today’s day and age this should be somewhat solvable. It won’t be perfect but it should be way better than this.

In the perfect world it would just make “fake” servers just like they talked about that where presistent where you see the same people over and over. Remove all the phasing at zone boundaries.

And make sure players interacting or clicking on each other stay locked or world PvP is a joke.

they have. on the first podcast on YouTube they said they saw the open world PvP clip with Payo and his enemy layering and said it’s a bug exploit and will be fixed by launch

edit: why am i being downvoted for pointing out the fact the dev team has addressed this specific issue? wtf is wrong with this sub lol

That's an exploit that stems from the problem but fixing the exploit is not fixing the problem and communicating about the exploit is not communicating about the problem. As long as they use sharding instead of layering and realmless instead of layers as realms, this can't really be fixed and because of that they won't address it. They can't not know that it is antithetical to the classic design pillars they claim to be upholding and went with it anyway.

well i can tell you they’ve put a lot of work into the realmless system and there’s no way it’s going anywhere (at least in the foreseeable future), instead they’re going to iterate over it to fix the problems with their system, but the system itself isn’t necessarily a problem. just because there are issues with it they couldn’t predict and plan for in time for beta doesn’t mean those issues can’t be solved. give the engineers some time, it’s undoubtedly a very complex system and i’d be surprised if there are changes to the layering system during the beta period (but would love to have those changes implemented to see them in action before full release).

let’s say they fix the issue with zone borders layering people out like they said they would. let’s also assume that they can control the populations of zones and preserve the feeling of remote locations by taking the average # of players in a zone and balancing the layers accordingly rather than filling every layer with maximum possible players. let’s also assume their “tagging” system works appropriately, and players you’ve interacted with frequently show up on the same layers as you. what issues are there with the realmless system that are antithetical to classic design pillars?

layering like that in combat is what they mentioned being a bug, not just layering when you switch zones normal and no longer seeing the same people around you

Are those 25 people in the room with us?

Either we're all Schizophrenic or this is Chromie's "perfect run" and she's micromanaging like its a Starcraft tourney.

That's okay because once on the other side 20 more random friends will spawn in their place!

Nothing sounds more like cohesion and community like randomly spawning 20 players :D

They did not. I ran through the tunnel alone. Got hit by the npc and got flagged. Died a few times getting to the bridge, then I saw 3 people doing the same. It was still fun and I had a blast.
