Announcement r/cavaliers has a new banner!

Hi folks! The r/cavaliers moderator team here.

We're pleased to announced that we have a new subreddit banner!

Our banner was the ultimate product of this post from Lam of r/DrawMyPets. I THINK our featured players are, left to right:

Look at all those gorgeous cavs! Happy Monday, y'all. :)

(Because reddit has three different banner display settings that it uses on different platforms, the banner may display incompletely on your device. Sadly, we can't solve reddit's technical challenges -- so please enjoy as-is!)

Announcement VOTE NOW: subreddit mascot (FINAL BRACKET)

Hi folks! The r/cavaliers moderator team here. In November, we put out a call for submissions to become the r/cavaliers mascot (i.e. subreddit thumbnail). We received about 200 submissions and were blown away by all the beautiful, talented, incredible cavaliers in this community.

Because we received so many submissions, we're breaking the voting down into two phases:

  • FIRST, we're going to post one voting thread per week for each the AKC-recognized breed standard colors: Blenheim, Tricolor, Ruby, and Black & Tan (and one all black submission!). The thread will remain up for a week, during which you can vote for as many submissions as you like. At the end of the week, the r/cavaliers moderators will note down the three submissions that received the most votes. These are the "color standard winners."
  • SECOND: we'll post one final voting thread with the twelve "color standard winners." Again, the thread will remain up for a week, during which you can vote for as many submissions as you like. At the end of the week, the r/cavaliers moderators will note down the submission that received the most votes and offer that winner the chance to be the r/cavaliers mascot!

This is the FINAL BRACKET. The #1 vote getter will be offered the chance to be the r/cavaliers mascot. This bracket will run from January 8, 2025 through January 15, 2025.

Fine print:

  • This post is Locked; if you want to discuss, please join us on the competition megathread
  • Moderators will post each entrant within a given bracket as a comment on the thread, tag the user who submitted it, and (where possible) list the cavalier's name
  • Entrants will be listed in a random order
  • This casting call is completely voluntary; if you submitted an image and wish to withdraw it, please message the moderator team
  • The moderator team reserves the right to reject any submission for any reason, including but not limited to suspicion of vote rigging (please don't do that, this is a friendly competition)
  • In the event that a final winner is selected and the submission doesn't work as a thumbnail, the moderator team reserves the right to work with the final winner to select an alternate pic or to move onto a runner-up as needed

Thank you all for offering your wonderful cavaliers to be celebrated by the community. We can't wait to spend the next month joining you in that celebration!

Join us on the competition MEGATHREAD to discuss all the wonderful cavaliers in competition!

Discussion I saw people talking about car seats and wanted to share how we secure Delilah

If I were to use the given instructions, I’d need to loop the back, bottom corner to the seat which still leaves my baby flying around the inside of the car.

In this manner, I clipped her in but then put the lap belt over her straps and retract them fully so that it locks. This way if there’s an accident she has much less chance of swinging about the cabin.

What are your thoughts?

I got my cav puppy 3 weeks ago, he was 11 weeks at the time. He came home with giardia which is being treated (first round of meds didnt work so we are onto antibiotics) and no training. I was waking up every hour during the night, and he had a million accidents in the house. He bonded with me right away and refused to eat without me hand feeding him, refused to sleep unless I lay by his crate, and his favorite activity was going into the cats litterbox and eating a chunk of cat poop. I was waiting on him hand and foot and when I wasnt, I was cleaning his messes. I admittedly never felt a connection with him for so long. Since then, he has learned "sit" and "touch". He is learning a bit to go to the bathroom outside and has significantly less messes. I've put up a gate on the cat litter so he cant access it anymore. I can now sleep about 4 hours at a time at night. Last night I had my first real connection with my puppy where I liked him for the first time. He stepped in his own poop so I gave him a bath. Afterwards, I wrapped him up in his towel and he just curled up and fell asleep. He just looked so cute.

Our girl loves to collect pinecones. Luckily for us, the neighbor across the street has several large pine trees that are constantly dropping pinecones.

This picture was just the start of her collection. It’s about three times as large now.

Does anyone else’s cavaliers love to collect things?

Advice Cavalier insurance

Hi! I’m looking into insurance for my pup. Given cavaliers are more prone to certain health conditions, would you suggest getting insurance where deductible is per condition (Trupanion, Chewy) or deductible that’s per annual (Lemonade, Petsbest)

Also if you don’t mind, can you share how much you’re paying for your cavs insurance/ deductible pls? Or one you’d recommend? Thank you!

Medical/Veterinary Collapsed trachea

Post image
83 Upvotes

UPDATE:
I scheduled an appointment for her. Earliest available is this Thursday…in a sick twist of fate and some gut punching irony that sent me into an emotional spiral…Thursday is the 1 year anniversary of my flat haired retriever.

Let’s pray that her prognosis isn’t as heartbreaking as his was…

Has anyone’s cavi experienced a collapsed trachea? What are some symptoms to look out for? My girl has been wheezing a lot more frequently after any excitement and is panting after doing just any normal activity. I’m slightly worried and, yes, I know I need to get her to a vet soon but am coming here first to better gather some insights on things.

He’s supposed to be an 8 month old AKC purebred Cav, but i’m constantly asked if he’s a long haired dachshund. Either way, I adore him. just curious

Poor boy has been in a cone since September 4th, first it was his neuter and then it ended up healing super badly so his cone time got extended. Then not even 4 days after he was able to be out of the cone he rips his leg open on his crate and has to go right back in it. Finally got the okay on 10/19 to be cone free!!

Medical/Veterinary Anyone experienced tiny, firm lumps under the skin on the back?

Hi fellow Cavalier parents!
I recently found a tiny bump on my cav Pace’s back, like the size of a tiny bead.. wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar with your Cavalier! 🥺

Some background:
Size: Very small, about the size of a pimple.
Feels more like a firmer bead underneath the skin. The skin seems to slide over when I gently touch it.
Doesn’t seem to be causing pain, even if I press on it a little.
I first noticed it about 3–4 weeks ago, and it hasn’t grown or changed in size at all. Thought it was a pimple att, which he’s had before so didn’t pay too much attention at first. This one … doesn’t look to have a whitehead (not sure if that’s the right word, but something pimples have typically) or shown any signs of changing since I found it the last time.
About Pace: turning 5 in December. Cutest boy in the world with big tennis ball obsession. He’s healthy overall and isn’t showing any changes in mood, appetite, or temperament etc..

We have a vet appointment scheduled for next week, and will definitely have it checked out.
In the meantime want to post here to see if you’ve had similar experiences, since this is keeing me up at night…
Thanks in advance!! Attaching cute photo in the end as thank yous to this community! ❤️
