ACT Teachers are striking because there is not enough support for kids which is impacting on learning, safety and workforce burnout.
At the same time the ACT Govt is cutting school budgets, causing class sizes to increase and staffing restrictions.
How can this possibly be good for kids?

Apparently you can borrow a kit from ACT libraries to check which appliances are chewing through your electricity.
Also found out ACT households can get a free bulky waste pickup each financial year, and some libraries have volunteer JPs. I reckon heaps of people probably don't even know these services exist.
What other genuinely useful free stuff is available around Canberra that most people have no idea about?

Recently moved from Ireland to Canberra and am stumped with the choice of cinemas in the area. Hoyts? Limelight? Dendy? Electric?
If there’s any Canberrian cinephiles that can direct me to the cheapest/best value for money/best cinema for releases (I know Australia gets everything late but still) ye would be, as we say in Ireland, a big bunch of legends!

Have decided our old home needs new insulation. Should have done this ages ago, but it is what it is. We've had 2 come around and still awaiting quotes from one. Question i have is about House Insulation Canberra. I've found that insulation specialists are particularly nasty to each other. Honestly never seen this in other industries.
One provided has said House Insulation Canberra isn't registered or something and has other issues and they won't price match. I've heard similar things from Just Rite and Alexander Watson about each other so take this with a huge kilo of salt.
My own verification has not turned up anything. Question, any bad experiences with House Insultation Canberra?

Hi friends, looking to take my little ones trick-or-treating this year and keen to hear who will be giving out candy and getting into the spooky spirit. I've checked on FB groups already but no consistent list yet. Let me know if your neighbourhood is a good spot to visit!

Kingsleys has the most orgasmic gravy one could experience but unfortunetly I moved to another state and the gravy withdrawals are starting to kick in.
So who knows the secret formula?
Im also a fan of the gravy they use on chips at the canberra hospital in woden if anyone knows where i can get it

Hi folks can anyone recommend a hairdresser who does decent hair cuts and isn’t Just Cuts / one of the places in Westfield? For a 5 year old girl with curly hair. I’m struggling! 🙏🏻

Was going to go for a dip off the little sand beach near the Radford College Rowing shed - not many other people in the water at all.
Safe to swim in there?

Hi all,
At around 10am this morning, I left my luggage outside my front door at Whitlam, while my girlfriend and I went to get the car from the car park. By the time we drove back, it was gone. It looks like it was picked up by an older lady, who may have thought we'd left it out for anyone to take.
Inside was everything I'd packed to take back to China, which I was about to fly to from Sydney. That included supplements for about eight people: fish oil, vitamins, and menopause medication for my mum and her female colleagues.
This also comes less than a month after two strangers broke into our home one morning.
On the bright side, airport security is going to be a breeze. And somewhere in Whitlam, a lady I've never met is now stocked up on supplements for the foreseeable future. I genuinely wish her good health. She's now getting better care than my own mum.
The police have been notified.

Looking for recommendations for how to reasonably quickly give away furniture (Ikea, but im really good condition, and a 2BR apartment's worth) in Canberra - the difficulty is I have no means to actually take it anywhere myself. I would need to rely on people coming to me to pick it up. I'm trying to avoid paying for removalists and I don't need the furniture any more.

Hi All
We have out-of-towners coming for a flying visit on Saturday, they're bringing their pups, we'll have our hounds with us, so I'd really appreciate some recs for good spots where we can perhaps have a little amble beforehand and then grab brunch. I was considering Snapper & Co but it would be great to have an option closer to the centre.
Also, is the cafe next to Yarralumla Nursery still open? The last few times we've been there in the morning they've been closed.
TIA.

I have two Carbo ebikes. I brought them from the US when I moved back here, but I couldn’t bring their batteries.
I believe it might be possible for someone to custom build battery packs for these bikes. How can I locate someone who can do that?
Edit: the bikes are in storage at the moment. It’s a circular plug socket with 4 pins in a square, integrated into the seat post. I would prefer to reproduce that configuration, but I’d certainly consider just using a regular battery pack.
Is there somewhere local in Canberra who might be able to supply a battery pack?

I've noticed an extreme change in basic driving etiquette in Canberra over the last year. It seems as though a lot, and I mean a lot of drivers (we know who they are) believe that the rule is 'stay in the right lane unless overtaking'.
I'm not talking about the slow over-takers that believe they're going fast enough while sitting next to another car. I'm talking about the ones you see a great distance In front or behind you, where they seem to quickly race to the right lane upon entering and sit there. Where there is quite literally no one around them at all. Only to then drive slower than the left lane, and then cut everyone off when their exit 'suddenly' appears. Like why drive under the limit in the right, only to speed up at the last second to cut them off? Could've just moved in behind them? Guess it comes from a rushed me me me place.
And don't even get me started on those people that think slamming their brakes on Majura parkway to give way to someone who literally has to give way to you. They are literally coming from Majura parkway trying to cheat traffic. Those good Samaritan points you think you got were instantly gone when you pissed off the 100 cars behind you. Stop it.
