Stock for refurbished items varies greatly. Some listings only have a few items in stock and sell out quickly. Please report this post if the listing goes out of stock.

Computers never breaks

u/MidnightMantime 2d ago

Had a prebuilt’s PSU fail on me

It’s just nice to know warranty for ppl who aren’t tech-literate 🫣

4

u/Destructo-Bear 2d ago

Fair. At least psu was a cheap part

1

u/MidnightMantime 2d ago

tyty and I do agree desktops rarely fail if ever

3

u/Destructo-Bear 2d ago

It can be so annoying when they do break though. My main rig was giving me so many weird intermittent problems. It was a nightmare. Installing Windows again fixed it but the problems came back every time. It turned out it was an issue with the nvme drive. It was such a pain. I know computers good and can make them easily but this stumped me for so long.

I absolute sympathize with people who would pay extra for a warranty.

It went out of stock as I added it to cart. GG

2

u/Eating_parrots 2d ago

Was able to get an order through, not sure if it'll get cancelled though.

3

u/mrcheeks- 2d ago

Yeah I am going to wait to return my 9070xt, I have had too many good deals get cancelled on me.

1

u/Eating_parrots 2d ago

I have a 5070ti/14700f HP Omen I got for the same price from Walmart I was going to return if I found something better. Well the return window is up the 23rd so I'm cutting it a little close

u/Graphic-J 1d ago

I am in, anyone have experience with MSi refurbs?

Edit: rakuten had 2% cash back and I used a 2% cash back cc. I will take any savings I can get.

2

u/chrisg213g 2d ago

Wondering the same...

1

u/--tc-- 2d ago

I got a msi refurb laptop a few months ago and im happy with it. Wondering what the issue with a desktop would be though

1

u/chrisg213g 2d ago

Any damage/ scratches?

1

u/--tc-- 2d ago

Not that i could tell

1

u/mrtatertot 2d ago

Check out the Capital One shopping portal. I currently have an offer for 29% back at Woot (maximum $1000 back). You can only redeem the rewards for gift cards, not cash, but if you're patient you can get gift cards for Best Buy, Apple, eBay and Walmart (the gift card options change frequently).

1

u/rosedragoon 1d ago

I bought one back in February with a 5070 in it and it's been great.

5

u/farmerpabs 2d ago

Realistically, how much can I expect to get back if I keep the GPU, RAM and SSD and offload the rest?

6

u/Flying-Flat 2d ago

Nothing much since those are kinda cheap, especially of anything open box and those are even refurbs so probably won’t have any of the boxes offloading those will be harder and much cheaper

7

u/BakedsR 2d ago

Like 350 or so lol,

2

u/Goragnak 2d ago

The processor sells for ~400ish on Ebay, the motherboard/case/PSU together you might sell for ~$100 if you are persistant enough.

11

u/jay-aay-ess-ohh-enn 2d ago

I haven't checked ebay, but why would anyone buy a 285 used for $400 when you can buy a new 270k for $300?

4

u/Goragnak 2d ago

The only thing I can figure is that the 285 is a low power part with a base of 65w, max 182w

the 270k plus is 125w min, max 250w.

3

u/jay-aay-ess-ohh-enn 2d ago

I just looked on Amazon, a new 285 is listed for $600. Wild!

1

u/TheMissingVoteBallot 2d ago

How does the 285 compare to a 9800X3D/9850X3D?

3

u/Destructo-Bear 2d ago

I dunno but people are weird and they do go for $400 on eBay

-1

u/MITBryceYoung2 2d ago

Yeah but the processor is kind of fake.. you can literally just buy a 270k for much cheaper and if you're by a micro center even way cheaper.

You're definitely putting way too much emphasis on the 285k label

1

u/Goragnak 2d ago

???? i'm not really sure how to address this one, other than to say that the 285 is a real processor and does have a big advantage over the 270k in that it is a low tdp part, and that matters to enough people to allow this processor to command the price premium it does.

-1

u/MITBryceYoung2 2d ago
  1. Your tdp stuff isnt accurate
  2. Performance shows the 270k ~ 285k
  3. Im talking about its market position. The 285k is a hard sell now

If you're saying that there's a slightly higher boost clock of the 285k, yes, that's technically true, but in terms of actual performance, pretty sure the 270k is equivalent across most workloads. If not, actually better in some due to a more optimized structure. And if you're talking about the 285 and not the k then that just makes the value even worse. The 270k objectively performs better and is cheaper.

1

u/Goragnak 2d ago
  1. I don't think you even know what a low tdp part is, and why that's desirable to some people.

  2. Isn't terribly relevent as the included part is the 285 non K

  3. I agree the 285k is terribly priced for gamers compared to the 270k plus, but this isn't a 285k, it's a 285 which maintains its desirability (mostly to non gamers) because it's a low tdp part.

For the rest of your paragraph, you need to work on your reading comprehension.

the 285 non k has a much lower TDP than the 270k plus. That's it, that's the point. It's also why it's still worth $400 on ebay.

1

u/Destructo-Bear 2d ago

Case probably $30 locally, Mobo $80 on eBay, PSU $40 locally, CPU $350ish on eBay

2

u/butterbeans36532 2d ago

This not bad? If you cool with refurb

2

u/Einzelherz 2d ago

According to the listing it's cosmetic rather than hardware failure. But 180 days warranty only so...

2

u/chrisg213g 2d ago

Had bad is the cosmetics? 🥸

3

u/Einzelherz 2d ago

Nothing a better looking case couldn't solve 😅

1

u/Pyrazoid 2d ago

That's what I'm worried about. It's hit or miss

2

u/Goragnak 2d ago

Odds are if its going to fail it will during the first couple months when it's covered. Just make sure you aren't making excuses to yourself if its doing anything wierd.

If you are really worried, buy a new power supply/motherboard for it.

3

u/mrcheeks- 2d ago

any recommendations to test a refurb system before that warranty/return window ends? Just stress test it?

2

u/Destructo-Bear 2d ago

For this price you can justify taking it to a local repair shop if it breaks and still be out on top. Even if the GPU dies you can get like $500 for it for parts on eBay

2

u/turns2stone 2d ago

Good price if you need all this. Impossible to build/DIY cheaper.

H610 board for core 9 is crazy

10

u/JDTemple 2d ago

It’s gonna be a typo, H610 is LGA1700. Lowest it could be is H810, more likely would be B860. But even then, the ultra 9 285 (non-k) is only 65w TDP. Tremendously efficient chip.

7

u/psm_pm 2d ago

yes, if you scroll down to the specs it says it's actually B860, the bullet points at the top are incorrect

1

u/mycheese 2d ago

It’s like loading a jet turbine into a Pontiac Vibe. Insanity

1

u/Adenoidcash 1d ago

Back in stock at $1999.00 🤷‍♂️

1

u/InterestingCompote95 22h ago

Wondering if its favorable to order through MSI vs Woot (Amazon) regarding quality. I assume the only difference is return policies with Woot having a longer one. Any input would be great!

1

u/dot_one 2d ago

How is it still in stock? Makes me worried

1

u/Russ916 2d ago

With EDU email there's an additional 5% off + 2% Cashback from Rakuten and if you have Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards Credit Card there's $200 back on spending $1000 or more an additionally another 6% cashback on a category of your choice( 6%+2% if you spend $2500 in each quarter of your choice category)

This would work out to 13% cashback + $200 = total savings of $447 = $1,433 before taxes.

And from what I've heard MSI doesn't charge tax in most states, other than California. I'm not sure how true that is, but big if true.

1

u/Eating_parrots 1d ago

For anyone interested there's a couple left on Amazon for $2019. If you have a Prime card with 5% back it's almost the same price.

1

u/jdsmn21 2d ago

Is it surprising to see the CPU without liquid cooling?

3

u/JDTemple 2d ago

No, Core Ultra 9 is not the same as Core i9. Especially in this case it’s a non-k chip, the TDP is 65w.

1

u/Jaggsta 2d ago

PL2 is still 182W so any heavy tasks it will throttle instantly.

-4

u/drocdoc 2d ago

Maybe I’m salty but I feel like micro center deals need its own sub until they start shipping to everyone

3

u/Eating_parrots 2d ago

This isn't microcenter

2

u/Outcast_LG 2d ago

Honestly we should be more strict on all Microcenter or YMMV in stores deals. An auto bot or manual Moderator flag for all links leading to them.

Or users could just tag correctly.
