π· Photo Black and white warbler
As a not-great photographer, I appreciate black and white warblers - some of the only birds that'll pose long enough and close enough for me to get a good picture. This one was in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY, USA.

π· Photo Grass-green Tanager at Wayqecha, Manu Road, Cusco, Peru
Although the Grass-green Tanager occurs in Peru from Amazonas all the way south to Puno, near the Bolivian border, at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 3,350 meters, I have only managed to see it at Wayqecha, where it comes to bathe and take advantage of the feeders.
Never has a bird been more aptly named in both English and Spanish!

π· Photo Closest I've been to the raven
(Not endorsing the littering of this takeout container! Lol but the raven got to it before I did) and some dude scared the bird off (lame) so he/she didn't ingest any Styrofoam before it got thrown away.
Didnt have time for any fancy pictures and I didn't want to alarm or bother him/her, but this is the closest I've been to the local ravens I've been watching. He/she found what looked like a peanut butter sandwich and broke open the container.
Didn't mind the people walking by and let me hang out next to him/her for a bit. I'm talking to it in the first picture and apparently being listened to lol
Thought I'd share my exciting moment (I'm a major fan of ravens, especially my local ones)

Art I built a tool that turns bird song into a 3D shape you can rotate
Most of us look at bird song as a spectrogram β frequency going up,
time going right. I wanted to see what it looks like if you let it
become a structure instead of a flat image.
Each point is a frequency the bird is actually producing at that
moment. The lines connect them in different ways: when a note slides
up or down, when overtones stack into a harmonic, and β the part I
find most interesting β when two moments in the song sound alike even
though they're seconds apart.
That last one ends up being a repeated-phrase detector. Birds repeat
themselves constantly, and those connections light up every time a
motif comes back.
This is [SPECIES], recorded by [vos / xeno-canto + autor + link].
To be clear about what it is and isn't: it does NOT identify species.
It measures and draws, nothing more. Merlin already does ID far better
than anything I could build. What this gives you is a way to see the
structure of a song β how repetitive it is, how tonal or noisy, how
the phrases relate to each other.
It runs on a phone, and you can feed it your own recordings. Free and
open source if anyone wants to try it with their own:
https://github.com/gustaavoq94/birdgraph
I'd genuinely like to see what it does with a mimic β a mockingbird or
a lyrebird. If anyone has a decent recording of one, I'd love to run it.
