Discussion I loved BioWare

Bioware brought me, and so many of us, wonderful memories. Mass Effect and Dragon Age 1-3 were amazing games. BioWare not only went to the cemetery to pick the plot, but they also hand sawn the casket and drove every last nail in it with their bare hands when it came to all their new games. They brought me so much joy for so many years, then killed it with a spiked baseball bat. I waited 10 years for Dreadwolf. Good riddance.

I just replayed the mass effect games. Man this is a bummer.

EA killed Bioware. First they forced the developers to use the Frostbite Engine so they didn't need to pay licensing fees, causing the DA team to need to code everything in Inquisition from scratch bc it had no framework for anything but shooters built in. Then they pushed multi-player on all their projects bc that's where they thought the money was, leading to Anthem and that failure, and causing the old talent to start jumping ship. Then they forced Bioware for years to build a live-service framework for Dreadwolf before finally just letting them release it as single-player on a deadline, giving us the mess that was Veilguard.

EA is absolutely responsible for taking the best single player RPG studio and forcing them to change and downsize until they died.

This. Thank you. I’m so tired of “Veilguard killed BioWare”… no. It didn’t. Veilguard was a direct result of EA. EA killed BioWare, it was just a drawn out death.

BioWare was dead in the water once EA canned the Anthem revival. Veilguard would have needed BG3 levels of acclaim to save the studio.

This is proof that video games should be about having fun. I guess they lost the plot somewhere.

Lol no. They put out an abysmal game with fourth grade writing. Every single fantasy RPG that's come out in the past few years has done exceptionally well. It's literally the most popular genre of RPG. Baldur's Gate and The Witcher are still incredibly popular after years. They ruined it and paid for it.

Dragon age didn't kill them did you forget about anthem and Andromeda..the stupid was already on life support

I think the final nail was that the next Mass Effect was still in early development. If they were closer to launching there might have been a chance. Still hard to believe EA kept them around for so long after Anthem crashed and burned.

Bro they released 3 flops in a row. Most studios don't survive 1 flop. A game that's not been released cannot be the cause of death

True enough. I just remember learning that the next Mass Effect was still years out and realizing there was no way BioWare was going to survive.

EA gutted the studio done to just 50 people a long time ago. We were never seeing that new mass effect

Dragon Age absolutely killed them. EA reported DA was 50% below their sales and engagement expectations. If Veilguard was a good game and had reached anywhere near the success of Baldur's Gate or Witcher, they would still be around.

Did you forget that Andromeda failed and anthem as well. The stupid was already on its last legs. Veilguard was just the last nail in the coffin.

No, Andromeda sold almost 3 million more copies than Veilguard. It’s not even close

Yeah it sold more but it was still panned by critics and fans and it only sold well because people thought they were getting a good game.

You didn't mention anthem or do you think that sold well too?

Are actually like this or are you just being annoying? No one said anthem or andromeda are good games. But andromeda was still a financial success. And anthem still ended up selling 5million copies.

This studio got shut down because of how dogshit veilguard was both creatively and economically.

If you believe veilguard alone was responsible then you are just hating.

After Andromeda did we get a sequel let me check. No yes it sold 3 million but is still considered a flop after how much the previous game sold. It was so bad they cancelled the dlc

What happened to anthem. Let me check the servers were shut down and the game shelved. Yes it later sold 5 million but missed it's sales Target

That 2 games not embracinee by the gaming public and it already put bioware in a sink or swim situation.

You are choosing to ignore all that just so you can blame veilguard which was. It a great game but you probably hate it so much you want to blame it for everything

They were too busy trying to give lectures about misgendering people by pulling a Barve with terrible writing and modern day words.

Did you get Veilguard for 70$?

Hate to say it but the complete shutdown is not unexpected. I figured we might get a final Mass Effect but honestly not surprised there either. Bioware hasn't actually been the Bioware most of us grew up with for a long time now. I'm curious of EA will keep the rights or sale them all off piece by piece. A modern release of the Dragon Age games, to bring them together all in one place like they did Mass Effect, would be an easy source of revenue for example.

Classic case of falling in love with someone amazing. Then that shitty new friend starts whispering in their ear until they're not who you fell in love with.

when I was young I would have never expected Obsidian to be the one to last, among Black Isle and BioWare.

ME trilogy and DA Tetralogy, for better or worse, wrapped the stories. They had their moment. No company bats 100% forever. Be happy we had them instead of mad we aren't getting more of them.

They leave a legacy for younger upcoming studios to learn from.

Honestly, it was one of my favorite developers. All I can say is I am done with EA. I won't support another developer that remains under its umbrella. I'm fucking DONE! Will not buy another damned game that has EA attached to it.

It was the company that taught me to look at who makes the game. Before I learned the name BioWare I knew what games i liked, but they were the first ones who made me notice who the developers were.

Now I’m a life long gaming news enjoyer.

I absolutely hate the usage of good riddance here.

Some of you weirdos act like Bioware personally killed your family pet in front of you.
