Did you spend 10 minutes with the wiki?

KDE Plasma on Arch Linux, running Wayland.

Is the one that doesn't work your external monitor or the built in one? Do you have brightnessctl installed?

Actually, what WM or DE? May be easier to do it there first. Like for me 'brightnessctl' didn't work for me so i mapped the keys to dms commands (niri and dms).

    // XF86MonBrightnessUp allow-when-locked=true { spawn "brightnessctl" "--class=backlight" "set" "+10%"; }
    // XF86MonBrightnessDown allow-when-locked=true { spawn "brightnessctl" "--class=backlight" "set" "10%-"; }
    XF86MonBrightnessUp allow-when-locked=true   { spawn "dms" "brightness" "set" "backlight:intel_backlight" "80%"; }
    XF86MonBrightnessDown allow-when-locked=true { spawn "dms" "brightness" "set" "backlight:intel_backlight" "35%"; }

That's just an example. If you aren't using niri and dms that wont work for you.

No problem. Just go slow. See if there is a utility you can use from the commend line that will adjust the brightness like 'brightnessctl'. Once you have that look into mapping that to they keyboard either tru KDE or some kind of remap util https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Input_remap_utilities
