SHARE 5 months of Linux development: my first program, ScreenGuard, reaches beta.6!

Its been 5 months since I first started my first project , a personal project it was to monitor my own screen time and prevent distractions .

After support from a small group of people and with personal curiosity to learn to code in C and Dart(which was already a known language from my previous experience) , I continue to improve the software with newer support aiming for a greater goal- modular daemons complementary to usagestatsservice, appopsservice and other necessary device care and wellbeing services in linux natively.

This is the reason that I believe learning C is important and becoming handy in moving away from a dart based daemon.

Most importantly the views of the Linux community, both sweet and harsh and some ridiculously disgusting have shaped my intuition about FOSS which is VASTLY different from a 9 to 5 at a tech corporate.

What brings me joys the most is that the application which begun as a small project

"Late nights in the middle of June" has now come to a substantial development level after 5 months .

A few notable upgrades this release are remapped settings menu, autonomous crash reporting system and database controls . Also strict mode has been made optional to prevent windows from closing by default via pkill which could lead to unsaved work loss (just incase someone has a daily limit set for such an application)

For more details you can check the release page and docs attached.

I would love to continue receiving feedback and testers from the community in the scope to see how much better I can make this into. All sorths of feedback are welcomed as it should be.

Thank you everyone for providing a platform to vent out a personal project and also thanks to the couple hundred people who used the application. Please do leave a feedback.

Yeah well it would only kill a program if it had a daily limit set...but yeah people like me who set their "BROWSER " a daily limit to stop doom scrolling...well they pay their toll....when they do actual work in browser...😅 Personal experience hits hard

And the shift to C ,that is to ensure that one day the daemon is adapted natively into the Linux kernel...Linux is missing some necessary services which android has... especially for laptops and battery operated systems
