One of the things that gives me a small modicum of hope for the future, at least for the near future, is how so many people are rejecting AI slop, but also just the idea of AI slop.

I read an article last night about how people preferred fiction written by AI, until they were informed that it was AI, and then their opinion of the "work" dropped. A lot of people don't like AI, but I think more importantly than that, a lot of people don't want to like AI.

"Oh, what a beautiful diamond! ...you're telling me this diamond was mined by slave labor? Okay, pass."

I don't know what the whole future holds, I fear that at some point AI will be normalized, that people won't care anymore, but at least for now people still care, and that does give me some hope.

This is just cult mentality that will go away as people realize they're being mislead about the quality AI can produce.

This study is actually not all it’s cracked up to be. I looked into this pretty deeply, and it was random people reading 1,000 word samples. The human comparison pieces were deliberately off-putting and dense literary magazine type stuff, and the AI pieces skewed positive and hopeful because it’s AI. The AI pieces were cliche-riddled dogshit, the human samples were just that unpleasant, so the study is not really a shining example “the quality AI can produce.”
