Secondhand frustration
Bought this puzzle from a thrift shop and found out it had 7 missing pieces and one that had been chewed on to death.
There's inherent risk in buying a puzzle secondhand, but I found this pretty excessive

My dad used to secretly steal a piece and put it in his pocket. Once the puzzle was done, missing one piece, he magically found the missing piece and was always the one to finish the puzzle.

Hokusai with a touch of tentacles wasn't exactly what I expected...

π The puzzle is called "Great Wave Off Cat-A-Gawa" from Exploding Kittens, if you're interested

May I introduce you to Fate/Grand Order? Where Hokusai is in fact related to an outer god that manifests through tons of tentacles?

Seven missing pieces AND a chewed one? π That puzzle came with a side quest and a crime scene. Iβd be frustrated too, especially after getting excited to put it togetherπ

With the chewed one, I'm seriously concerned where the other 7 ended up...

If you have the box, you can usually get missing pieces from the company.

I did a 2000 piece puzzle one night in a mental hospital. I couldn't sleep and figured it would calm me down.
It was missing 1 piece... No one had ever completed it before, let alone get this close. The staff were so frustrated, the let me make a piece with some random little cardboard container that I shaped and colored.
I sat the piece in, some nurses took a pic, then I immediately put it all back in the box like the little psychopath I am. The audible gasps were hilarious. It worked tho, and I was finally able to sleep.

We found the chewed piece first as we were sorting the edges, and I planned on actually 3d printing a replacement piece...then we found we were missing two edges, and then more and more. We gave up trying to fix it at that point and just decided to persevere until it was done.
Glad you were able to sleep, though!

I wanted to give away a 150 piece puzzle I did and I wanted to make sure all the pieces were there first but when I counted it there were far more than 150 pieces...so I don't know now. Might toss it. Also, 5 below has the tube puzzles but they're not sealed and the cashier said kids open them and mess with the pieces. Rawr.

Uh oh, your puzzle is procreating! Give it enough time and you'll have a whole second puzzle

Frustrating as HELL. BUT!! Imagine making it a theme and get a couple more puzzles with pieces missing and hang them up on a wall together π I can think of 2 vibes: Weird artistic statement if theyre larger puzzles hung along a hallway, or right in front of the toilet with the missing pieces all being from key features in the puzzle. Your guests will experience various levels of botherment as they are forced to keep looking while they finish.

I like it, it's a daring exploration of existential fragmentation, boldly challenging the bourgeois expectation that a picture should actually be finished. Or something like that

Old white ladies that work in thrift stores routinely remove puzzle pieces.

So in this case was it one overzealous old white lady, or a roving gang of them? Maybe a mobility scooter gang!

Always to be expected with 2nd hand puzzles. Without exception. In fact, it's often the reason why people get rid of them, just as you will now.
