Crocheted Rorschach

Since there is no pattern available for Rorschach I had to custom make it, how did I do?

The face was the hardest for me, tried to make it as close to the original as possible. I would also like to use blue or black for the pants the next time I make them.

Why did Rorschach have such a soft spot for the Comedian?

Rorschach despises rapists and gun toting criminals but he looks up to the Comedian and even justifies his actions to Laurie and Manhattan. What is it about the Comedian that exempts him from his black and white unflinching view of the world. Sorry if im being dense or didnt catch something.

Did Ozymandias kill his own parents?

Way back when IMDb still had message boards, I got into a discussion with someone about their theory that Ozymandias was responsible for the deaths of his parents. At the time, I thought it was a strange assumption to make. Their biggest argument for it was the panel depicting Adrian lounging on his parents' tombstone, with a reed between his teeth. Such behaviour was, in the poster's mind, a sign of Adrian's sociopathic disregard for human life when it suited his purposes. The guy was obsessed with building himself up from nothing and making something of himself on his own terms, so why wouldn't he do away with his own parents to speed the process along?

Personally, I think I still disagree with that assumption. Veidt could have left regardless of whether his parents were alive or dead, and if they did die later, he could still give that money away, and his plans would continue as before. No part of his personal journey required his parents to be out of the picture.

What do you all think, though? Is there something I'm missing or forgetting?

Billy was a would-be "villain" with altruistic intentions, who truly became the nihilistic supervillain Dr. Horrible after Penny's death; Kovacs was a would-be vigilante hero who truly became Rorschach after Blair Roche's death.

Just read Watchmen for the first time and loved it but have one question

I am a lifelong lover of superheroes and have read a lot of comics even while only being 16 and got around to reading watchmen recently but one part didn't really make sense to me.

In Chapter 9, Jon is adamantly against saving earth until Laurie breaks down and realizes that Blake is her father, causing Jon to realize the improbability and miracle of life.

My question is, Jon already knew this would happen, he knew Laurie would break down, he knew she would reveal that Blake was her father and he knew he would change his mind yet before that the entire chapter he says there is nothing she can say to change his mind and she has failed to convince him. Why did he pretend like he didn't know that he was going to change his mind after Laurie's breakdown?

Maybe I'm stupid and this is a stupid question but its the only thing that doesn't really make sense to me as of now.

My ears are uneven in the second photo..

A friend and I dressed up as Nite Owl (me) and Rorschach for a local con. This is my first time ever cosplaying and I was happy with how it turned out.

The main parts are made by a friend, but the goggles are cobbled together from two different pairs and the gloves are walmart wool gloves combined with the forearm of a way-too-small hoodie. My boots didn’t arrive in time so I’m just wearing my normal boots. Got the belt off etsy and had a friend print the moon.

New fans: Learn about the Charleston characters that were altered for the story!

It will change the way you see the story. Then check out issue #17 of Denny O'Neil's Question run with a appearance of Rorschach. Then read Pax Americana, the single issue quasi-reinterpretation of Watchmen by Grant Morrison. THEN come back here and go back to posting about Rorschach...

Guys, I learned that if I have doubts about a character, I should read the work and not the idealized opinion that a certain sector of its fans have.

Why did so many people latch onto Rorschach despite him being intended as an unsympathetic creep with no redeeming qualities?

What are your favorite Watchmen chapters???

Mine is chapter 6

I really love how much depth and backstory we get for Rorschach(who is my favorite character) Seeing what shaped him, understanding his motives, and learning more about his worldview makes him such a fascinating character to me. I especially love the distinction between Rorschach and Walter Kovacs, and how the chapter explores the relationship between the two identities.

Angela may not have gotten Dr Manhattan's powers?

Probably the 4th time I am watching the series but just noted something: The watchmen series ends with the cliffhanger, Angela's foot barely just touching the surface of the pool before dissolving into the end credits. So we don't know if she received dr Manhattan's powers or not.

But I would assume that she didn't because wouldn't her intellect and sensory perceptions immediately become supernatural if the egg was really embued with Jon's powers?

What does the fact Silk Specter went out with Comedian after he tried to rape her say about women?

I always found this detail interesting. I never read the comic but in the movie after he beats her up she kind of gives in and is about to let him do it before he is stopped. So the fact she goes back to him means she was into it in my opinion.

Is It Worth It To Buy A Bigger Copy of Watchmen

I owned a trade paperback copy of Watchmen that has been worn out and read front to back. I'm thinking of buying a DC Absolute next, and one of the options is the Absolute Edition.

Is the upgrade worth it to you guys, even though there is no difference in contents between the two versions?

Movie Do you like the casting in the Watchmen movie?

Not asking whether you like the movie specifically, but do you like the choice of actors the movie had for the characters? I always thought they were weirdly spot on for most of them, the actor for Rorschach is practically identical to his comics appearance, only one they changed the design was ozymandias.

I’m absolutely fed up with this bullshit about Rorschach being a fascist—seriously, I have never in my life seen such a profound lack of knowledge regarding political science. Rorschach is the complete antithesis of what Mussolini preached.

As a Marxist who also studies other ideologies, I can tell you: there is nothing fascist about Rorschach. Mussolini’s central thesis was: everything within the state, nothing outside the state. That is not who Rorschach is. He is a vigilante who rejects the state, operates outside of its institutions, and actively defies the state apparatus—all while seizing the monopoly on violence for himself. Other vigilantes in the story also reject the state or place themselves above it. Even The Comedian, who worked for the state, was not a fascist; he was a nihilist who only used the state for his own protection, as he held no political beliefs whatsoever. Rorschach is not a collectivist; he is an individualist to the extreme. You can bring whatever arguments you like, but I have studied this, and I refute them all. In today’s world, people have fallen into a state of extreme political illiteracy. Harry Truman (whom Rorschach admired) and Franklin D. Roosevelt were more "liberal" than anyone who claims that label today. Nowadays, no one even dares to challenge Wall Street. A word of advice: be careful with the political slogans you use. Do your research first—otherwise, you end up trivializing ideology, only to be caught off guard when a real fascist finally appears.

The Scene that Stayed with Me

October 14th, 2026

I've read the comic multiple times, I've seen the movie even more. I'm not here to pretend I can understand some higher purpose or theme besides what's obviously stated:

Rorschach = Complex Psychopath, driven by fear

Dr. Manhattan = Cold, Unwavering, and Logical Demigod

Nite-Owl= Stand in for Normalcy, the everyday washed up dude.

I get it.

The Scene that stands out to me, within both mediums is Rorschachs death. It becomes so much more and gets tossed away so frivolously due to the nature of the character.

In the movie he LITERALLY looks back and sees "Daniel" for who he is, inevitably leading to Nite-Owl revealing himself out of desperation to connect (the one true person he could be himself around). Before delivering his monologue...Rorschach knew he wasn't going to go home (hence leaving the journal to be published). Sure he is a piece of shit we aren't supposed to "root" for but the sympathetic aspect is played up (way more in the movies).

In the comic, his death is almost seen as some unavoidable obstacle that allows a sense of brevity for everyone BUT him. There is no emotion. There is no sense of weight, other than the fact that we've followed this "narrator" along his journey of self doubt and paranoia. Still...it hits you. No member of the MinuteMen has been killed except for the Comedian at this point (not including the "Golden Age heroes"). And even then it was mostly a flashback, unlike the movie.

All I'm saying is...it's stuck with me ever since and ever more to come. Powerful indeed.

Hurmmm.

Was the Comedian really 15 to 18 years old when he was a Minuteman?

At his funeral we see that the Comedian was born in 1924. That means he was 15/16 when he became a vigilante and 16 when he assaulted Silk Spectre. I really cannot believe his age, also because he is not really drawn like a teenager or like he were much younger than the other Minutemen.
