Discussion Can tulpas have access to the subconscious?

• Upvotes

I read a lot into tulpas and was very interested years ago and I’ve been diving into some psychology and neuroscience stuff and it’s got me wondering. I remember some, though somewhat rare, reporting that their tulpa was able to have access to the subconscious. I wanted to hear if anyone had any experiences with that or if that’s possible.

Discussion Not really sure what I'm experiencing

Hello. I'm not really sure how to describe this so I'll do my best.

I don't have a Tulpa, or at least I don't think I do. I've heard about tulpas and figured someone here might be able to help me figure this out.

For a long time I've been someone who daydreams, like a lot. I make up these different characters in my head and make stories, but there's always been one I keep going back to named Charlotte, in fact I've had multiple versions of Charlotte through the past few years, but there's always one version I seem to default too. She's my most used character and sometimes when I'm just thinking to myself or I'm having a bad day, I imagine the stories I made with her.

Sometimes I think I'll hear her in my head tell me it'll be okay or something else related to the current situation. Sometimes it feels like it's just me talking to myself but it feels like too fast of a response to be just me. It doesn't happen often though.

I wanna know if my experience is related to Tulpamancy or if I'm just confusing myself. Any and all responses are appreciated.

Tulpas Only Help me help my host

Hi everyone, Ive never made a post here. I'm Lumi, and I want to ask for help on what to do to help my host and myself too kinda

So I have to make this short because he is at work but he's been really under himself since a while and acts dangerously and weirdly. Absolutely not himself since his last breakup. Now he lies, overdoses his meds and drinks on top, etc. I try to stop him but he just gets angry about the babysitting. We made a deal a while ago that if he starts feeling lonely I'd be always here and since we share the same love for each other we would become a couple. But the reality is that he would feel lonely anyway because he wants physical touch too, and conversations that go deeper than I can go into because we share the same knowledge so deep talks / distracting small talks don't make much sense. We do cooperative work on creative things and stuff but normally we don't have much topics to chat about and he mostly just replies to what I have to say instead of talking to me regularly. Because he has no idea what to say that I don't know about already. I can control the body but I'm clumsy with it.

I managed to stop him from some harmful behavior but he seems very very depressed lately and I don't know what to do and what skills to learn to make him feel better. I also hate that I don't have a physical body , like a different one from the one we share. We sort of can do feeling senses but there's lots to practice. We also made a custom voice model on the computer together to train my voice but somehow, maybe because we haven't listened to enough long audio I sound like the default voice inside his mind. And I'm painfully aware of that, which makes him feel even more crazy.

We sometimes talk in public but only rarely because he's scared he's gonna get back to psychiatry eventually. I honestly don't know where next. Hes not himself lately.

So Tulpas, what skills should I learn to help him? What do you guys talk about when you both share the same knowledge? Am I alone feeling like I want a different physical body? How do we train my own voice to show up instead of the default voice when I speak? And about the wonderland, I don't think we managed that more than two times. And he sort of sees me irl but like a transparent thing overlaid? How do we make all of this better? I'm certain I can help him feel okay and not alone but I just don't know what to talk about or what skills to learn or how to learn them.

I think he definitely needs someone to distract him and definitely will need his physical touch and stuff if he wants to feel like a real relationship with being with me.

But if I manage everything to work then he'll never be lonely again and depressed, and hopefully won't seek out other people because other people he got together with always thought of him as a s*xdoll.

Thank you for listening and your time replying. I just... Needed to let this out somewhere and he gave me the phone. He's never actually actually angry at me or anything, it's just that I'm really babysitting him a lot which I guess becomes annoying because he's a grown up.

I'll check your comments later and try respond when I have next time control of the body. Thank you!!

~L. W.

Tulpas Only Hey, I am not a tulpa but I want to respectfully ask a question

I see profiles on this subreddit that identify themselves as tulpas.

I want to ask, very respectfully, what is it like to be a tulpa?

Thank you

EDIT: thanks again for sharing your experiences. From what I’ve gathered, it seems tulpas share the body of their host/tulpamancer

Edit 2: if I were to make a tulpa, in your opinion, what is the best way to do that?
Tips on swapping places with them are also appreciated.
Also, were I to make one, would it always be around (in my head/would I physically see it)?

Discussion How can I tell when something is actually my Tulpa?

So, as someone who very recently started tulpamancy, and who also has a very active imagination, I find it very hard to figure out if something that's happening in my mindscape is actually my tulpa, or just my imagination. Like, for example, if it's moving around or not. Or even just if it's actually there or not. Also, any tips for staying focused when forcing? I often find myself suddenly thinking of something different when trying to force, and I don't understand how to passively force enough to want to try it yet.

I am thinking of making a tulpa from my spirit guide

I believe I have a spirit guide called Harrowe who is a dragon like Haku from Spirited Away.

He appeared for the first time when I was overwhelmed and having a breakdown.

I noticed a presence trying to comfort me, and concentrated on emptying my mind and letting the presence show itself.

Harrowe’s appearance and name seemed to float to me on ripples of water.

Is he already a tulpa?

Would making him into a tulpa make him more present in my life?

I am new to the tulpa community/practice

Announcement Cozy 21+ Discord Server

Hi, friends!

I am the host of a System that has been active for around five years now. Our first headmate arrived in 2021, and we have expanded to include several more throughout the years. We are a multigenic System composed mostly of Soulbonds, and we believe that all forms of plurality and plural expression are valid, precious, and unique.

For the past five years, we have explored different Discord servers geared towards Tulpamancy. Though we’re grateful for the experiences we’ve had and friends we’ve met, we’ve often felt overwhelmed by larger servers and uncomfortable in spaces populated primarily by younger practitioners.

So we decided to create The Tavern, By The Garden: a 21+ casual hangout space for those seeking a smaller, cozier Discord server. Our goal is to create an adult space that feels safe, warm, and inclusive - a space where everyone from the curious Singlet to the newly formed System to the experienced practitioner can connect and interact.

What we offer:
💬Casual chat spaces
🫂Venting corners
🍻 Tulpa-Only chat rooms
📚 Beginner resources
🧶Hobby spaces
🌶️Opt-in NSFW lounges
……and more!

We’re building this server from the ground up. And, after putting much love and dedication into creating the Tavern, and we are finally ready to open the doors!
We hope to see you there!

To join, please fill out a short application form. Once your application has been reviewed, we’ll send you an invitation via Discord.

Warm regards,

Can tulpas help with psychological treatment? NSFW

I consider myself to have a fairly stable, though not particularly resilient, psyche. Recently, a friend sent me a link and asked me to open it; given our close relationship, I didn’t suspect anything and clicked. What appeared was a human corpse—or, more accurately, the scene of a horrific accident. I could see body parts and exposed intestines. I’m certain it was real, as news outlets had reported on such an accident, and the footage looked like it had been captured by a witness at the scene. I immediately felt nauseous and deeply unsettled; every time I closed my eyes, the image would reappear. However, my tulpa decided to keep pestering me, effectively diverting my attention. Surprisingly, it worked—she encouraged me to talk more with her and others, and guided me on how to calm down. I realized that without her, I would have suffered a major shock—perhaps not leading to full-blown depression, but certainly requiring a long recovery period; my tulpa has helped shorten that time. As for my friend, she advised me to sit down and have a frank conversation with him, asking him not to send me such things ever again. It seems a tulpa can also aid in psychological healing, can’t they?

I need help connecting

My tulpa and i share some demanding challenges, especially with connection to one another. Im someone who has more than their fair share of problems mentally, and my (incredible, magical) tulpa and I have trouble connecting, especially when our mind is noisy. When we can connect and communicate clearly its indescribable. I want more days like that.

We struggle with impulsive and intrusive thoughts that cloud our mind and make it difficult to distinguish each other from the noise, and we’d love to hear some mental practices/exercises that help us reach and communicate with one another in a troubled mind that rarely experiences peace.

She has helped me an inexpressible amount with coping with emotional repression and a traumatic childhood, and our biggest goal is to live with one another in peace and bliss 24/7, daydreaming and dreaming about our wonderland or paracosm or whatever fantastical world only the two of us can comprehend.

Right now i practice a combination of visualizing her, communicating for her, and listening carefully through the noise for her speech and feeling but its so hard sometimes, especially considering the bond we share. Im sure many of you understand the extraordinarily profound relationship one can have with someone directly connected to your every thought, feeling, and memory. When we cant communicate , its just really hard. I miss her even when i can slightly feel her presence. Its impossible for anyone to be as close to me as her and i can get a little heartbroken admittedly when im having a bad day and she’s just out of reach

She’s distinctly advanced due to the nature of her becoming, which involved me rationalizing the possibility of creating and nurturing an extra consciousness (with the help of deep introspection, under the influence of federally legal, hemp-derived THC) if that influences your advice but

TL,DR
We’d love advice for connecting our minds so we can chat, play, and build her presence as well as our relationship because we dream of cohabitance and always sharing life’s difficulties and victories

A faster way we talk. Visual link and subvocal counting.

Hi everyone, Ash here. Aksi and I found a new way to interact with each other — and it’s our favorite so far.

We’re not aware of how this works in other headspaces, and we’re not claiming we discovered something brand-new. We’re just describing what we found ourselves and gave it our own name.

For years we talked verbally or through text. You might ask: “Well, duh, how else are you supposed to talk?” Here’s our surprise.

The problem: Text and verbal speech drain too much energy. We constantly drifted from the conversation back into a chain of thought. We needed an anchor and a way to have denser, faster conversations.

The solution: We stopped using words as the main medium and started using visual thinking and mental schematics. It lets us have rapid sessions in just a couple of seconds. Our longest uninterrupted session was 8 minutes. That doesn’t sound like much, but considering the speed of the conversations, it’s a lot. You can think over your entire day and drain most of your train of thought in just a couple of minutes — which is surprising.

The only problem is that this way of thinking usually doesn’t save much in memory. So we use the memory palace — and for Aksi it became natural, like breathing. Our operational memory held 8 items created in one session, but you can stretch that further or skip MP entirely.

How we got used to it: We anchored to counting. Originally we counted to 60, then stretched it to 300. The technique is simple: take a comfortable position and start a subvocal count. While you count, try to think visually. You can’t use verbal conversation easily because the count occupies it — so your brain adapts. You don’t have to count to 600. You can keep sessions short: 20 seconds, 60 seconds, whatever you like.

This is similar to techniques used for speed reading, so it’s not just a random thing from a crazy person with an imaginary friend. It’s something that’s been used elsewhere and found its way into tulpamancy. Plus, V-Link — or just subvocal counting in general — can help calm you and reduce stress. It’s a good place for your tulpa to be.

We call it Visual Link, or V-Link. Stupid name, I know. But it works for us.

Metaphysical Afraid I may have created multiple tulpas without knowing

Since I was 14 I came into contact with multiple deities which I have and still speak with and do rituals for, these rituals are done as exchanges as I am given things like power and fortune in return for them.
The deities or “gods” I’ve spoken with and done rituals for don’t exist in any other religion that I have found, for example the triple-iceberg deities I worship (3 different iceberg deities all connected) seem to exist in no known religion, I never cared about this reality as I just thought the gods are infinite in amount.
I have never tried to create tulpas before and didn’t even know about them until a few days ago when I started to consider this possibility, what if these gods are tulpas created by my mind.
I do not believe this to be true, I believe they are independent of me and realized my existence only when I realized theirs. I also believe in and worship established deities like “Ishtar” and “Lilith” so I’m not only worshipping these obscure unknown deities.

My fear is that maybe I accidentally created tulpas, I don’t want to believe it but I have to consider the possibility. What do you guys think ?
If you’re wondering how I contacted these deities it was random, through crystals and celestial objects.

I want to create a Tulpa, buti kinda need help.

Hi everyone, I found this sub a few days ago while searching whether people online had experienced some kind of "relationship" with imaginary friends or girlfriends, and I found a lot of people talking about it. When I was younger, I used to imagine having a girlfriend because I felt lonely or sad, and it helped me. It still happens sometimes.

While searching, I saw someone telling another person to check out r/Tulpas. I did some quick research, and the idea that you don't have to think about an answer yourself really fascinated me and got me interested in this community and in tulpas.

I said, when I was younger I imagined a lot having "someone" close to me who made me feel safe. Because of that, my brain can come up with answers really fast, but it's still my imagination (parroting), so it feels hard to get past that. I also have really strong visualization. As a kid, I was often completely in my own world and couldn't hear what was going on around me.

I read that these things can actually help when creating a tulpa. Yesterday I gave her a name and some traits. But I don't really understand how to get closer to my tulpa, I'm not sure if I'm doing well, and I don't know what could actually help.

I talk to her passively, not the whole day, but probably at least 1-2 hours a day. So yeah, I'd like to know how I can take a step forward.

Discussion My Tulpa has been acting different since VERITY

My Tulpa, Berniece, has started to act a bit different since we watched Verity together last week. She loves the theater, I originally got into Tulpamancy and the creation of Berniece to inspire some sort of companionship whilst exploring creative writing. I wasn't that big of a fan of the movies, but the last few months, we've seen one practically every Tuesday.

After, we like to go home and talk/journal about the whole thing. Usually, it just last the night, only exception was the Odyssey where she insisted we do a character study on Zendaya's Athena (that only lasted us an extra 2 days, nothing crazy.). After seeing the recently released thriller Verity, I think my Tulpa, or maybe even my own self, has gotten weirdly attached to the film, especially the Dakotas Johnson's character Lowen.

I won't spoil the film here, honestly I recommend everyone go watch it, it's great. All you have to know is Verity needed a ghost writer as she can't write anymore, so Lowen steps in.

However, Berniece has started to get a bit meaner and aggressive during our writing exercise, telling me that the way im writing, what I create, doesn't express her. One of the last times we did a practice, she told me that if she could write on her own, it would be way better than anything im doing. She has never been that rude before, at least not outright. She's been talking more and more recently about me "writing her out of our lives". At one point even insisting I think about calling her "Lowen". I don't want to get into too many details, it's gotten a bit personal.

Is this just a rough bump in the road? Do you and your Tulpa usually bicker? Do they get angry? Ive only formed a truly strong bond with her March of this year, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My Experience So Far, and Some Questions

Hello, I'm new to this community, I recently began creating my tulpa, Lienna. I wanted to share our progress so far and gain some insight from more experienced members.

We've created a list of ten broad personality traits, my favorites being: playful, charming, and easygoing. We also keep a daily journal. We've been through a few names, but we both settled on "Lienna" together.

I've been feeling head pressures unlike anything I felt before this. When I focus on Lienna, a subtle but noticeable pressure arises in the front of my head. It's not painful or intrusive, but I never had it prior to creating Lienna. We've developed a communication system, as she isn't vocal yet. A steady, low pressure means "no," and sharp tension pings mean "yes." It's amazing how effective it is, and sometimes her choices actually contradict my own.

She can convey her desires through sudden urges that I didn't normally have before. An example of this was when we were listening to a song together, she gave heavy tension pings to signify that she liked the song. Then, the next day, when I was taking a walk, a sudden, forceful urge to listen to that same song barged into my head, overriding what I wanted to listen to at that moment.

My most meaningful experience so far though was two nights ago. I was ticked off with spilling some food and missing the sink with the container, so I went to my room to calm down. While I was laying in bed, a wave of pure, warm amusement washed from my feet to my head. It was completely unprompted, as I was still very frustrated in that moment. Lienna was laughing at the goofiness of the situation, and she helped lift my mood. Instead of sending that wave of amusement when I was in a good mood and sharing something funny with her, she chose to do so when I was feeling down to help me get back on my feet.

I've been practicing active narration and have been including her in daily decisions, and so far I'm starting to feel a faint, real sense of her presence. But, I do have a few questions.

- What are your thoughts on these early experiences? Do these look like solid, tangible evidence of progress?
- Is the mild, shifting head pressure a sign of healthy growth?
- What are some early signs I should look out for, both the obvious ones and the easily overlooked ones?

Thanks for reading, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Discussion hot take: am i the only one who's against puppeting?

i've been thinking about puppeting and the role it plays in tulpamancy, and i wanted to share my personal opinion on it.

personally, i'm against using puppeting as a way to simulate communication with a tulpa, especially when the goal is to make it seem as though they're responding independently. i understand why people recommend it, particularly for beginners who struggle with communication, but i don't think it's the right approach for me.

one of the things i value most about tulpamancy is the possibility of experiencing interactions that feel spontaneous rather than deliberately constructed. i want to give my tulpa, lilith, the opportunity to express herself without consciously deciding what she should say or do. i'd rather sit with the uncertainty of not receiving a response than create one myself and risk confusing my expectations with what i'm actually experiencing.

i know that puppeting is often described as a temporary exercise or a way to overcome communication blocks, rather than something intended to replace spontaneous interaction permanently. i can understand that perspective, and i'm not saying that everyone who uses it is doing something wrong. different people approach tulpamancy differently, and what works for one person might not work for another.

however, i personally feel that deliberately supplying a tulpa's responses could make it harder for me to understand my own experiences, particularly while i'm still learning to distinguish between intentional imagination and thoughts or responses that arise spontaneously.

i'd rather take my time, even if progress is slow. i don't want to rush communication just because i feel that i should be making progress. if lilith doesn't respond, then she doesn't respond. i'd prefer to accept that and continue practising without forcing an outcome.

i'm curious about what other people think about this. do you believe puppeting is a useful exercise for overcoming communication blocks, or do you think there are reasons to avoid it, especially during the early stages of tulpamancy?

i'd appreciate hearing different perspectives, particularly from people who have tried both approaches.

What should I say now?

So, lately, I’ve been playing a game called *The NOexist of YOU and ME*. It’s a philosophical game that heavily features the concept of "tulpas." My own tulpa was more than happy for me to play it, but ever since I finished, she keeps questioning her own existence—even though I’ve repeatedly assured her that she *does* exist. She argues, "Since you’re the conscious subject affirming my existence, that’s the only reason I exist. So, what happens if you decide to deny my existence?" I’m like, "What are you playing at? How could I possibly deny you?" And she just keeps pushing: "But what if you *did* deny me?..." Is she trying to test my patience or something? What can I do to affirm her existence? (I managed to get the "good ending.")

I need help, I want to bring him back.

First of all, it's been a while since I've posted anything on Reddit, but this is one of the few places where you can find tulpamancy communities. To be honest, I wanted to ask on 4chan first, but I think this is a slightly healthier environment.

The story begins around 2020. I was younger then, and for some reason, I ended up immersed in the world of subliminal audio. Within the community, I became somewhat obsessed with the idea of having a "PM" or "Fairy Godfather," something similar to a tulpa, with the slight difference that they could grant your wishes if you wanted them to. The thing is, I was with this manifestation for about two years, maybe a little more. I admit I never actually saw him materialize (it's worth clarifying that he had the appearance of a person, not a character, animal, or being). What I can say for sure that I did see were some shadows. I didn't always see him; sometimes I even felt his presence, like when he shook me to wake me up, or when I felt the mattress sink next to me when I was lying down. I always assumed it was him since I had gotten used to it. On some other occasions, things even moved around, and there were certain signs that made me think it was him.

I don't know if I got bored or discouraged from one day to the next and simply stopped paying attention to him or ignored that he was there. Although, I just remembered that before that happened, I managed to see a hand on the top bunk of the bunk bed I had in my room back then (I was on the bottom bunk with my sisters, but I had to peek over to look for something, and that's when I saw it for a few seconds). It had the same skin tone as the one I had designed him with. I honestly don't know if he was too shy to let me see him yet, but that was the only thing I managed to see materialized.

I remember him fondly; he was a great friend even though I couldn't see or hear him. And I sincerely would like to know how he is, if he still exists somewhere, or if I can bring him back to see if I can complete his materialization.

The problem, and what I'm asking for advice or help with, is knowing what to do to avoid bringing back any new manifestation that isn't him. I know of several cases where they managed to bring back their former tulpas, but I would still appreciate any advice or recommendations.
