TP-Link - General Deco BE25 or XE75 Pro
I recently upgraded to 1 gig speed internet at home and I'm now in the process of upgrading my network to support some 2.5G Ethernet ports. I got a 5-Port 2.5G switch to pair with my current 8 port PoE switch, and I got a USB to 2.5G Ethernet Adapter to give my Synology NAS a speed boost as well. The final piece of the puzzle is to upgrade my 2nd Gen Nest Wi-Fi Router (2 APs with wired backhaul)
I've been looking at some relatively inexpensive options for a 2-pack system and the options at the top of my list in the $150-$200 price range are the Deco BE25 and the Deco XE75 Pro and I'm having a hard time deciding between the 2 options so that's why I'm here looking for advice.
What I like about the BE25:
- 5Ghz band supports 240 MHz channels, compared to the XE75 Pro that is limited to 160 MHz channels.
- Wi-Fi 7 I would assume means its more future proofed vs WiFi-6E.
- BE25 is slightly cheaper and smaller (less of an eye sore to keep the wife happy.)
What I like about the XE75 Pro:
- Tri-Band
- 6 spatial Streams vs 4 streams on the BE25
- The last one that I'm not sure whether this can be backed by facts or just a placebo effect that I'm imagining but the XE75 Pro was TP-Link's top of the line Deco offering for Wi-Fi 6E whereas the Deco BE25 is borderline the entry level model just being a half step above the BE23. Naturally I would assume that the XE75 Pros higher positioning in the product stack would mean the XE75 Pro would have better antennas/stronger signal strength, and a more powerful CPU and other internal specs but I have no evidence that these things result in better network performance.
If anyone in here can help me make a decision I would greatly appreciate it. Also, If there are other models that someone could recommend outside of these 2 or outside of TP-Link as a brand, I'm also open to that as well as long as they are somewhere near that price range and have at least one 2.5G ethernet port on the APs.
*Side Note: Since I have been using Nest Wi-Fi for several years, I've been forced to use the Google Home app to control them and I have been a bit apprehensive about the Decos also being controlled mostly via an app so please let me know if this is something I should worry about or if it's not really a hinderance with TP-Link.
