Powers [Interesting Trope] Characters growing weaker as they age because of their change in mindset/lifestyle.
- Paul Bunyan from Fate/Grand Order, when she was a kid she could grow as far as you could see and become gigantic, once she becomes a teenager she defaults to an "average" height.
This is implied to be because the change in size is tied to her emotions and she's now insecure about others around her not liking her that much, she now only grows after getting a bunch of likes online.
- Gohan from Dragon Ball, when he was a kid struggling he was a prodigy, strong enough to knock down enemies way older than him and defeat threats not even his dad could.
But as he moved on to an era of peace and dedicated himself to his studies, work and family he continuously slacked off in training and nearly every project he's in he's having to catch back up with a quick training or power up to hold his own in the field, hopefully this stops after his recent movie but who knows.

Goes back to five by the end of part six but it doesn’t matter due to the affects of Made in Heaven

It is implied that Kyo and his partner Murasamemon had gotten weaker since he was known as "Kyo the Golden", the strongest of the 5 Stars. That might be in part becuse Kyo runs a shelter for Baby Digimon now and feeds them with his E-Pulse. But over the course of the series Kyo and Murasamemon surpase their old selfes.

It’s kinda crazy to think the guy who nearly lost to a Raremon (Gekkomon screwed things up for him but still) is the same guy who very casually overwhelmed three of Souji’s controlled Ultimates, when Rose couldn’t even handle two.

He goes from fighting for himself to not wanting to fight and then to fighting for his family.
It was really nice seeing his past.1

”Are you watching, Murasamemon?”
That scene made me cry so hard

Also because op didn’t mention the series in question is Digimon Beatbreak, I highly recommend it

Isn't that the opposite?
He grew weak because he DIDN'T change his lifestyle.15

It’s was cool seeing how a handful of original series characters ended up in Beyond. Bane’s fate was dark but it fit the anti-drug theme of the episode and felt believable.

Isnt super Bunyan an imposter or something? I remember reading something in her materials to where something took over her spirit origin

u/Beamguys 6h ago
Yup, so basically a shapeshifter snuck into Bunyan's spirit origin and mimicked her so perfectly that the shapeshifter himself is unaware that he isn't Bunyan. The weird part is that this info was revealed in a data book and not the actual game, so the shapeshifter is still unaware of its situation and for all intents and purposes is Super Bunyan.

Honestly they kinda fumbled Super Bunyan all around. Bunyan is loved, Super Bunyan is very unpopular in Japan and still kinda viewed as eh among english fans, though not as negatively as in JP.

Spoilers for the anime onlys but this is a major plot point in (Re:Zero). Subaru gets turned into a kid but in the process loses his self doubt and it's replaced with pure confidence that he'll succeed no matter what.

Paul Bunyan is this cutie patootie in the fate universe? Love that, I adore all the gender swapping Nasu does.
Anyway, arguably Kratos fits this? He in theory has the same strength he had back in his crusade against the Greek pantheon, but due to a change in his mindset and trying to be more peaceful he is (at least presented) weaker than he once was

Cory balrog stated that Kratos at the start of gow is the strongest version of him up to that point

gow as in the first game ever? Or gow as in the first Norse one? Sorry, I know nothing about stuff outside the games so I have no concept of what developers have said or anything else in the greater community

Clearly OP missed DB super hero where Gohan finally used the move that made him an orphan 😅

The only time I can recall Gohan being an orphan is in the future Trunks timeline or the Buu saga. He only ever had a missing father

Pretty sure Gohan never actually wanted to be a fighter in the first place, hence his "slacking off" during times of peace.

Resurrection F was worked on by Toriyama, yes he wanted to adapt it in the anime but calling it a cash grab by Toyotaru and toei when toriyama was the one who designed the new transformations and uniforms as well as the storyboard is just plain wrong

Joseph Joestar (JoJo) settles down and stops practicing Hamon, a life-extending martial art, leading to him becoming weak and senile in Part 4.
