Basically "faceless ruthless neoimperialist capitalism vs theocratic space fascists"

Not kinda. Litteraly Halo. Spartans were meant to supress the incoming colony uprising that would have atleast crippeld humanity and probaly destroyed its civilization.

Except before that whole war could spiral out of controll humanity encounterd space nazis.

Probably both, but Halo 2 was originally going to call the Arbiter “the Dervish”. Post-9/11 America liked to draw quite a few parallels between Halo & itself.

Politics brain rot. Lol. The bad guys represent whatever I dislike personally.

"probably destroy human civilization" when combined with the knowledge of just how much the core worlds required the oppression of the outer colonies for resources, I always get the feeling that when that report says the outer colonies going independent will destroy human civilization I just know it actually means that it will collapse the exploitive UEG since it won't have colonies to oppress to feed itself anymore. Also the report in question is itself questionable and likely was just being used by ONI as a way to justify their human rights violations

Almost any IP involving Space Marines is like this. Halo, The Forever War, Starship Troopers (novel). We tend to assume the far future will be totalitarian or post-apocalyptic. Or both.
