Imperium apologists are unfortunately just a bit deluded.

Yes, chaos is worse. They do lots of bad stuff. But there’s subsets like the blood pact that are rather fair and govern well IIRC.

The imperium is literally Nazis. The average citizen just like in Nazi germany is mostly safe so long as they bow to them. But genocides on mutants, people who are born psychic, etc are common. In the HH novels they came across literal humans that spliced in some alien DNA to live better, and they cleanse the planet because of it. It’s a big galaxy and they’re pretty abhorrent.

It’s like comparing the SS and concentration camps to Stalin’s secret police and Gulags. Sure one may be “better” than the other. But if we’re lowering the bar that much does it really matter?

The imperium has servitors made out of babies. Anyone who thinks they are the good guys are insane.

There’s an abnormally large subset of the community that’s full on pro facist usually of the Christian nationalist type. And usually they play Black Templars.

Like genuinely I’ve had Black Templar players go into the whole “the crusades were good actually” thing

abnormally large subset of the community

These are contradictory statements

There’s a lot of them in a vacuum. But abnormally large percentage is more apt. Compared to most other properties.

Honestly thought they were a very popular army.

They had a boost in the competitive scene for awhile a few years back because they got a range refresh and their new book was broken so meta chasers glomed on to them as they always do, it also helped that because Black Templars are a space marine faction it's super easy to take your non-black templar marines and say they're being run as black templars.

But that changed and they fell back to their normal level. Typically they're one of the lowest played divergent space marine factions and while player stats are always hard to judge they're the only divergent Marine faction to ever have been removed from the game.

They're currently the 3rd least played army in the game and of the 2 factions played less than them, 1 of them is widely considered an incomplete faction that's about to be removed from the game and the other is stuck in rules hell.
