And also has mass rape of basically all women as a matter of state policy. There’s a reason being captured is seen as far worse by NCR forces than being chopped apart by a machete.
Vaguely problematic as in during the main campaign they order you to mass murder two factions, one of whom they commited war crimes against previously and relocated to a Cazador infested land with no resources, and also politically assasinate the leader of Vegas
Also they are quietly harrassing a super mutant town in order to get them to retaliate and justify mass murdering them too
The Kahns aren’t innocent bystanders being kicked around and neither are the brotherhood and the ncr didn’t order you to kill them one commander did and your welcome to ignore them and make peace with the factions.
Let's be honest with ourselves: Is killing House, one of the people that was partially responsible for encouraging the global nuclear war, really a bad thing?
the fact you think those are anywhere near on the same tier concerns me. The legion is unambiguously thousands of times more evil. The NCR is just vaguely problematic, to quote a certain someone
They’re not equally bad, they’re both horrible but one is worse. It’s like getting asked whether you’d rather get punched a hundred times in the face or get your head crushed with a safe. One sucks and will possibly still kill you but the other makes it a simple choice
They become the same when we're talking about long term outcomes. The NCR is on the trajectory for burning out from its corruption. The Legion like any fascist state, destroys itself when it runs out of enemies to label.
Both are dead ends. The NCR just has a better moral compass WHILE crashing and burning.
The NCR is a corrupt empire that's colonizing neighboring lands. They may not be on the same level of evil as the legion but they're not good guys by any stretch of the imagination
I think a more apt comparison would be the techno-feudal Brotherhood versus the Legion. Both factions very intentionally create worse conditions (the Brotherhood via the hoarding of tech that can help rebuild with the various other surviving groups and intentionally hunting them down if they get their hands on any of it, the Legion via rampant slavery) for most people.
The NCR are more than “slightly problematic” they are imperialists who are A-okay with benefiting from genocide and slavery, they just don’t like it when you do it where they have to see it.
Chief Hanlon:" It's kind of a long one, but all right. About twenty, twenty-five years ago, a group of NCR settlers pushed way south into Baja. I guess it doesn't seem so far now if you look at a map, but back then, they were out a ways. They built this little shanty town around a well in the middle of nowhere. Called it Rattletail. Word got back to one of our stations that raiders had been attacking the place. I went out with six rangers. We must have been on the trail for a week before we got to Rattletail. We lost one woman to Night Stalkers and another almost died of dehydration. When we reach the place, it's six shacks set up around an old well. There's over two dozen bodies lying in the dunes way outside of town and five men with .308 rifles crouched behind sandbags. And these bodies, these people out in the sand, they aren't raiders. Aren't even heavily armed. They're just people who were trying to get to the only well in fifty miles. I didn't have to talk to the men to see that they did not care one bit. They had planted an NCR flag over the well and they would not budge until every last one of them was laid out, dead and cold. So I walked up and told them there was a group of raiders coming, one hundred strong. I made up some cockamamie name for them and everything. The men looked at each other, looked at us, and asked me what we were going to do about it. I told him we would take them back into NCR territory because we had already lost ten rangers on the way out. Ten rangers, five men with .308 rifles. Well, that was enough for them. They packed up what they could and we took them back north. Last I heard, they settled somewhere in Anza-Borrego. Raised Bighorners. Had some tough times, but it worked out okay for them. So there you go. That's my one bit of good."
It would be kinda ridiculous to say that these story's aren't happening pretty much everywhere along the NCRs periphery only with less happy endings.
The khans and your story are examples of tragedy not genocide the ncr did not endeavor to wipe out a culture or the people entirely. with the story we see a town founded by ncr in the middle or nowhere who shot people outside the ncr when they got close, that’s xenophobia and extreme but not genocide. With the khans they were raiders they weren’t innocents being hunted they were facing the consequences of their own actions. Also comparing theses to the actual genocides of the natives is pretty fucked dude comparing the mass killings of tens of thousands to 24 people.
Why do you think the developers would put in an important side character telling you of a massacre that he witnessed in an area currently being colonized by the NCR if it was actually an isolated incident. Especially when one of the primary conflicts in New Vegas is the settlers clashing with the locals, what exactly do you think that fight would look like in a scenario where Mr house didnt wake up and build a power base

New California Republic vs The Legion. The legion so slavery. The NCR has nepotism.
