Characters
Not a human using a human skin and barely trying to hide it
Edgar the bug (men in black): giant cockroach monster using the skin of a dead man to try to look like a human, but is obvious that doesn't know how to do it and doesn't care to even put his neck right.
The pale visitor (no, I'm not human): All the visitors in the game are trying to look like humans, this one is described as a man that his skin doesn't fit with his body, a face that is always stretched and a chest and arms of completely different proportions. The game doesn't even try to hide that there's no way this one could be a person.
Kai (dorohedoro): wants to make dure that everyone knows that he's beyond sorcerers, but doesn't want to reveal what he actually is, so he just flashes people with some inhuman detail like eat like an animal, throw black and sludgy blood or ignore how mirror works.
The G-man (half-life): not as physical as the other examples, but still counts. The G-man not only his behaviour and totally Supernatural abilities, but also the way he speaks full of pauses and tone shifts that shouldn't be there.
The gal who worked as an oompa loompa is doing well (not OF but something close to it)
Edit: Her name is Kirsty Paterson and she isn't selling sexy pics (sorry for insinuating). She's a performer that did a show at Edinburgh fringe covering her day as an oompa loompa, did some stuff in LA, and is now working with Netflix in Australia on some Willy Wonka game show.
Also, Other Mother and her creations from Coraline. Not only do they just give up on trying to look human and turn into eldritch monsters by the end of the movie, Other Mother slowly transforms into her spider-like form all throughout the film. Not to mention the button eyes.
I've read that this character is the reason the new movie Other Mommy couldn't or decided not to call itself Other Mother which is an objectively snappier title lol. No idea how much truth there is to that though.
Doctor Who also gave us the Slitheen back at the beginning of the reboot, taking over all the fat people in the UK cabinet and wearing them as skin suits.
See that? Thats his emtire human disguise. A wig and some contacts. Not even trying to hide his green skin or his outfit.
Only reason his stupid attempt at a disguise works because Humanity in the Show is pretty stupid. Not as stupid as Zim but pretty stupid since Zim is the opposite of stealth.
The thing is, when he first gets to earth, he picks from a variety of disguises that look more convincing than this, but skips them and goes to this lol.
To be fair he looks a lot like the other humans in Invader Zim, I could see thinking he was a fugly looking human and it would be kind of mean to point out all of his flaws.
Google says green skin and issues with extremities can be linked to liver conditions so it's not that outside of reason for Dib to accidentally be picking on a dying child with chronic health conditions.
One of the stories in Through The Woods has a women visit her brother and his wife in the countryside. The wife actually being a rope monster that is wearing the wife’s skin, it barley is able to hide it as the protagonist quickly notes at dinner how the wife’s teeth move oddly, they shake back and forth individually like it were something pupating them
Ennard using Michael’s body as a skin suit for lie the best part of a few months even when it’s becoming increasingly obvious that he’s a rotting corpse of skin
Oh it gets worse, those things exclusively hunt humans, and while these ones are dangerous, the Elders (as seen below) are infinitely more dangerous as they are very , and additionally only appear when they get PLENTY of food (otherwise they turn into the humanoid one shown). It doesn’t help that the Vita Carnis Species in general can apparently see the electromagnetic spectrum, as shown when an Elder is looking around a house where a scientist is hiding to do studies, and the INSTANT the scientist turns a baby monitor on to….monitor….the Elder Mimic, it immediately clocks where he is hiding, and spends the rest of the video toying with it’s prey.
Now behold The Elder Mimic, compared to the regular one (which turn into either form as mentioned in this comment and the starter comment)
Doppelgangers (Fear and Hunger Termina): Immediately upon being attacked, they drop the act. I use Olivia's as an example because you find her doppelganger running around, but the thing is, Olivia can't walk.
Mine. First character I ever made. I swear it looked great in the character creator but in-game it looked horrendous. I could've sworn I deleted that save decades ago, but it seems it somehow survived and grew sentient.
I'm pretty sure the T-700 did have the actual biological flesh the T-800 had but it wasn't perfect yet so there were some missing details like being able to see the robot eyes in darkness.
Another one from Valve, the Doorman is actually a fledgling eldritch god that has terrorized and preyed on humanity for millennia, then got bored of all that and decided to get a job as a bellhop at the Baroness hotel. He intended only to try it for a short while, but found he genuinely enjoys serving and observing humanity and has stuck around for decades. He’s not trying very hard to hide it either, with his custom-styled outfit that always seems perfectly pristine, inhuman proportions, poses, and movement, perfectly symmetrical appearance down to his freckles, and his pupil-less glowing blue eyes.
For an eldritch being his quotes actually make him to be a pretty decent Thing/god/being: he loves watching evil people and how they get screwed over and objectively dislikes "pure beings" being corrupted or preyed upon.
He’s very friendly and personable in his Doorman persona, but drops the act and shows his true colors when he ults people (transports them into the Baroness and makes them do a jumping puzzle to escape). He mercilessly taunts and insults the entire cast, prods at their insecurities and deepest fears, even the more heroic or good-aligned characters.
I would argue he is someone interested in humans that rise to the ocasion, true heroes. BUT he is also VERY MUCH fed up with how humans as a whole are.
He still likes to watch it, just like we enjoy some dumpster fire shows, but he is hate-watching it...
Which becomes mildly amusing when you remember that this is probably one of the more friendly versions of Lucifer in regards to humans, and never actively sides against the player. Even in games where the Chaos route is the good one, they’ll still usually attack the player going Law, but this time, doesn’t care.
We never get a good look at ennard’s micheal suit outside of 8-bit sprites, but I can’t imagine it was terribly convincing even before micheal started to rot
Somebody posted a picture of a man whose body couldn’t produce estrogen and Elon musk side by side. Very similar.
They suggested that he’s been taking estrogen suppressant drugs throwing his body out of balance.
A healthy adult body has mostly one sex hormone with a little of the other.
That one was such a good detail. When the video for her reveal came out people were initially calling it bad and then later realized that it’s intentionally there as a hint
The Hunters Three from the New 52 run of Animal Man.
Former agents of the Red (The energy and power of animals iirc), now serve as agents of the Rot.
Love these dudes and this run of Animal Man! After being tasked to hunt down Animal Man and his daughter, they manifest by exploding out of hippos in the nearby zoo. They need to consume someone in order to take their form but must do so slowly cause if they dont they start reverting back to their more monstrous forms.
Seriously if you can find an omnibus of this run get it! Some of the best body horror Ive seen in comics!
they're a species of insect-like humanoid that love amongst the humans, killing people and taking their memories, face and entire identity, the main monsters that our protagonist faces throughout the entire show.
Frank Cotton from the original Hellraiser sort of. He started out as a human, but opened up the Lament Configuration, and got sent to the Cenobites. After escaping from the Cenobites and spending a decent chunk of the film as a skinless chunk of flesh, Man kills his brother(with the help of said brother’s wife Julia who is bored of her marriage), and takes his skin to wear as his own, although you can still see his blood even through his disguise, and the only person he ever tried to fool in the first place was his own niece who noticed immediately.
You might encounter a nice old lady in the Cruise Lanes. She's great.
You might encounter another nice old lady who asks you unsettling questions about what your skin feels like, refers to herself as 'we' and demands that you eat the strange food she's providing.
What's in it? You might ask.
Callllorieeees. Nutrients. The things usually found in food. Now eaaaat.
Though it isn’t fully explained what he specifically is (there’s one theory that he’s some weird fox creature who’s been torn in half), he’s very obviously another animal creature in the game filled with horrific animal creatures. The difference here is that this one wears the skin of dead humans
This is Igor from the Persona series. He is, to put it simply without having to explain a bunch of Persona lore, an angel, a force of good who is always on your side. His human mask is, however, creepy as shit. Fortunately, he knows this and he has a clutch of baby angels specifically made to be more attractive and better at passing for human. Better, however, is a relative term because while the baby angels are a lot easier to connect to, they are also all fucking insane.
Small tangent: he is technically not an angel he is an artificial life form creates by the "good god" of the world to help the heroes against the many villains... But he does fit in the "guardian angel" persona incredibly well, as, against his looks, he is the most kind being in the whole series, always talking in a clear and calming voice and having the objective of saving the world AND the heroes.
IRL but only if you believe in them: "Real life" Men in Black are almost always described as their skin looking lifeless and plastic, like a well fitting mask.
There's an Elder Scrolls fan art I can't find which interprets the Tsaesci (supposedly reptilian people depending on which source you use) as actually puppeting humanoid corpses from within. Insanely disturbing interpretation lol
Enoch, AoS- essentially an alien cyborg, intended to be nothing more than an emotionless, silent observer of Earth, started working with Coulson's team, got roped into saving the world a few times, s, helped kick off a human rebellion against a bunch of Kree slave traders in the future, and actually learned to care about people, how to be a space outlaw, and how to gamble.
Skin Bandits from Kenshi, basically a cult of robots that believe becoming human is the only way to save their failing mechanical bodies so naturally they peel the skin off any human they find and strap it all over their body.
