Am I the only one who thinks they all look exactly the same in both pictures?
I mean yeah a person can look more put together but an attractive woman is an attractive woman no matter what she wears or how she has her hair. Their faces don't change just because they have glasses or are wearing a coat.

Some of these are just bad wigs or the character looking mean and frowny.
However I learned people are generally really really bad at faces and just recognizing other human beings. I was able to clock most of my regulars at the bar I worked at even when they were weary masks during covid.
It was a weird experience bookending my birthday with a friend of mine from college going to the bar I had been working at for eight damn years without my glasses (no false eyelashes and I wore my typical makeup) and a nice dress on a slow AF night and neither of my coworkers recognized me (one of which I had worked with the same length of time, the other for about 2-3). I am a 6'3" woman as well.
My coworker who was waitressing didn't even clock that it was me until she heard my voice to take our order

I assumed they are pointing out how stupid this trope is and we're agreeing.

I don’t think Giselle fits this trope, she was already a glamorous princess

I agree so upvote but also, it’s definitely mostly about conforming. Which is why I must unfortunately raise OP this

Yeah, she was gorgeous enough in the cartoon world to land a Prince, she just modernized to land a modern curmudgeon prince.

Me growing up with most of these characters thinking they were hotter before.

Most of these are just attractive women without glasses or they have their hair down bruh come on we're better than this

I don't think Giselle's an example of this. She was never supposed to look frumpy or dorky--maybe a bit disheveled at first, but she was always meant to be beautiful.

Anytime someone tells you "You look better without glasses on" as a glasses-wearer,
make sure to always reply "You also look better without my glasses on."
Signed, the Glasses Supremacy Gang.

I call this: "Casting an attractive actress to play an ugly/average-looking character so their transformation into a beauty queen is more magnifying."

"I'm looking for somebody that's really messed up. I'm talking about a reeeeeal shit bomb"

Half of these examples are just women before and after makeup. The trope should be like the “nerd” going through a a makeover. A shower and a dress barely make a trope.

I think about the wig in act 1 of pretty woman an unhealthy amount. That hair hat they put on julia roberts was diabolical

The trope only is relevant if her getting "cleaned up to look pretty" is a plot point. A woman who's working in a trauma ward getting prettied up for a date isn't he same as "ugly girl in school getting turned pretty" after the fact.
Princess Diaries is a good example of this trope. Enchanted wouldn't be as "she looks messy after climbing out of a sewer and then scaling a billboard."

Just remember that the director, on stage with her, stated she cast her because "she wanted an unattractive woman to play Yennefer.'

If that's what she calls "unattractive", I hate to see what she considers attractive.

Bruh, why is everything I hear about this show more sexist than the books from the 90s.

If you want the honest answer it's often because when people try to avoid or fix a problem they usually end to doing said problem.
"I'm going to do Miles Morales as Thor so I'm going to make Asguard the most Harlem ghetto looking place ever with Miles saying a bunch of stereotypical lines so people know he's black." That is a lot more racist than having Idris Elba acting like Heimdall.
The director wanted to "empower women." So she did this by pulling moments like this. That actress is gorgeous. And even then in the show they do a lot to try and make her unattractive.
Think of it as the "Rose Tico effect."

She has glasses? And a ponytail? Ew.
