Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) Endings so awful they completely destroy the legacy of the media.

  1. Two and a Half Men's final episode teased Charlie Sheen's character coming back and going to harm the other characters whilst also having insults to his character and Charlie Sheen himself. It's clear the director had a grudge and the ending where his character comes up to knock then get crushed by a piano before it cuts to the director before he says "winning" before getting crushed by another piano
  2. This was an upbeat animated show about a magical teen princess. The writers desperately wanted a romantic endgame for her and her best friend, but the way they got there was essentially multiversal omnicide. To stop a villain, the main character unilaterally decides magic is the root of all evil and destroys it entirely. By doing this, she casually commits mass genocide against every purely magical being in the multiverse. It also triggers a massive apocalyptic event that violently crashes different dimensions together into a chaotic hellscape. But the show frames this horrific, mass-extinction catastrophe as a sweet, triumphant ending just because two teenagers get to hold hands in the rubble (Star Vs The Forces Of Evil)

The Dragon Prince

The creators got 7 whole seasons from Netflix to tell a whole story, which is very generous since lots of series get axed after 1 or 2 seasons.

So naturally, the writers decided to end the final season on a cliffhanger while also confirming a dumb theory, then went to Kickstarter to fund a pilot for the sequel series in hopes a network might pick it up and greenlit more episodes, because Netflix said no.

the first three seasons were so good too. What a disappointment of a show

Yep. If Netflix had canceled it after season 3 people would be talking about how it was a masterpiece that never got the chance it deserved. Instead no one is talking about it at all, except conversations like this.

I remember watching the first three seasons then heard crickets through COVID, at which point I cancelled Netflix. Didn't realize they finished the show. Even if they bundle the ending, I may have to watch it through.

It's not a TERRIBLE ending. It just doesn't live up to the first 3 seasons.

Damn, I dropped it after season 3 hoping to come back after it was finished...what was so bad about the ending? Like, what happened

It's not so much that it's bad, it's just not as good as the first 3 seasons. Season 3 in particular was nearly perfect. It's still okay though. There are a few issues that really hold it back. Aaravos worked better when he was really mysterious, and as you actually find out his story, it's... fine... but nowhere near as compelling as when you first saw him in the mirror. You end up missing Viren as a villain, and Claudia's arc where she takes his place is pretty dumb.

I also think people were also expecting the series to take on darker tones as it went on, but if anything it is kind of the opposite. The first 3 season are darker than the later ones.

I don't really have any plans on continuing the series but I am curious. Was the theory that the Father king dude switched his mind with the bird true or just wishful thinking?

It is confirmed in the final season

A large part of the problem with the show is that some major character developments happen off screen between season 3 and 4.

Basically season 3's ending was a bit too much like a series finale so when they got 4 more seasons they had to untie some of the pretty package they had wrapped everything up in and they did so with a time skip.

It's not a disaster per se. You can finish it. But the show was kinda rebooted after S3. The charm of the first 3 seasons was not there. Even the story felt weak.

i disagree. had potential, sure. but not good. hollow.

I remember liking the story, but the animation is what threw me off. The framerate had no business being 24 fps or whatever it was. I've seen stopmotion that looked better. This was just either sloppy cheap animation or an intended aesthetic that was poorly executed.

I quit when they broke up Rayla and Callum. Threw my hands up and said "Fuck this."

I quit because they decided to do this offscreen!

What sort of absolute nincompoop decides to, after a long arc of the two characters getting together, break them up in a comic between seasons!!

Also the wasted potential. They seemed to be going an interesting route with the "dark magic" possibly being not that bad and mostly elvish prejudice. The wizard boy with the Magic Type detecting Dice going the route of proving everyone wrong about humans by getting to use all types of magic. Etc.

Yea that was so dumb, mind-bogglingly dumb.

It was like admitting to the audience that they were bad writers and needed to milk that relationship for drama and pathos if the show was going to run for another 4 seasons.

There were plenty of other sources of conflict with the other characters and primal vs dark magic.

I recall the final battle also didn't make a lot of sense and felt like an ass-pull.

It's been so long that I don't remember the details for why.

it was definitely cheap to produce. it's why they got away with 6 seasons.

Genuinely I was so disappointed w what we got when we finally got a fourth season, but I think I made it all the way to the middle of season 5 before I gave up on it

Why dont shows have good endings anymore?

Man I tried but the dialogue felt cringe at a level that I couldn't get over, I couldn't even make it past 5 episodes.

There's a part where the super well trained elf assassin is like 'Can I see your holdy arrow thingie' and the other person is like 'my quiver?' or something like that, and it was fucking... Awful.

All the characters sounded so... idk... Joss Wedon Millenialesque.
