Hated Tropes [HATED] Adaptations done intentionally without help from the source

Halo TV show: Before the show came out, the writers were praising their decision to not look to the games for inspiration when making the show

God Of War TV show: Chris Judge, the actor of Kratos in the games from 2018-Now, spoke up about his dislike on the show not hiring anyone who worked on any of the previous games. One of the original creators of Kratos also spoke up about them not having faith in the adaptation.

Supergirl 2026 film: the director for the film not only said he decided to not read Woman Of Tomorrow, the comic the film is adapting, because he wanted to do his own thing, he also didn’t look at comic art for inspiration to design Lobo and instead used an AI image generator to design Lobo’s look for the film

Kevin should have been Claptrap, but there were bigger problems than that

Kevin should not be near this movie. Or any at all, for that matter.

There's an interview out there that basically explains why Kevin Hart is in it. He took the role because the character as written was both funny and deeply traumatized. A guy who helped massacre countless innocents before realizing what he was doing was not just wrong but pointless and defected in order to protect a child. Someone who uses humor and sarcasm as a way to mask his pain and trauma before the facade eventually crumbles and he's this tragic figure trying to do something heroic after a lifetime of evil.

And then Randy pitchford read the script after Kevin was locked into it and complained that he only had jokes for the first third of the movie and then was just some PTSD sad sack the rest of the movie before dying. So he used his executive powers to rewrite the entire story to throw out Roland's entire arc and give him more jokes and keep him from dying in his self sacrifice moment.

And then you can see an interview with Kevin Hart after the reshoots where he's just checked out and collecting a paycheck instead of actually excited at getting to play against type for once.

It's a COVID movie that you can tell the actors did just to have work. And it's honestly not an awful movie when you keep that in mind. If it had been released in 2021 like it was supposed to be we all would have accepted it and forgotten about it. But for whatever reason they decided we needed an adaptation 10 years too late to the franchise with whoever was willing to sign on and just winging it the entire time rather than trying to make something new or different bolted onto the IP like Witcher and Halo were. It was a movie made by tax fraud and sent out to die because someone decided that they couldn't batwoman it.
