Hotel room in Madrid
From my vacation this summer. As soon as I walked in the room I thought of this community.

Lots of people posting lately asking “Is this too high?” so here is a quick guide on what is generally accepted TV placement procedure (GATPP) as seemingly defined by this subreddit.
Now let’s look at some opposite GATPP use cases.
I hope this helps clear up some questions. If you have any other rules to add, please comment below.

I’m going to be upgrading to a 77 or 83 inch TV soon. If I want to have it at eye level, where could I put it? Removing the fireplace is not an option at this point.

We originally bought an open-box 77” LG G5, for $1400. Bestbuy told me the TV was in perfect working order with no panel issues and that the only reason it was marked as “fair” was because it came with no box and no mounting hardware. I stashed the TV at my mother’s house because I was waiting until I moved in order to set the TV up , use it, etc. a few weeks later I moved and set the tv up only to discover horrible burn in on the panel. To my dismay bestbuys open box return window had lapsed, leaving me with a 77” burnt-in $1500 problem. LG wouldn’t honor their warranty as the product was an open box purchase, bestbuy customer service said they couldn’t process a return as the window had lapsed. So I went into the very store where an employee told me the panel was perfect and spoke to the manager. After clicking around on his computer he said something about how he was going to look to replace my TV with a BRAND NEW 77” G5 but they were all out of stock so he offered me a 77” B series (the worst oled in LGs line). I told him I wasn’t interested in a downgrade, so he clicks around a little more and simply says “you got room for an 83 inch?”. I said yes (I knew i didnt have room but i couldnt say no and pass it up). In short he shipped me a brand new 83” and had the delivery guys take the burnt in 77”. I’m left with this and the TV along with the s95TR sound system is other worldly… it just doesn’t quite fit as good. The radiator to the right is fully decommissioned and I’m going to have it removed so that I can lower the TV some but overall I’m not mad at it. I count it as a win. I do also have it on a swivel mount so that it can angle to all corners of the room which is a huge benefit

For a quarter of a million USD and $185 in monthly HOA dues you would need to address this on day 1. It's a pass.

I understand mounting a TV above a fireplace for aesthetic reasons, but some setups look like you'd need a chiropractor on standby just to finish a movie.
The funniest part is when there's a perfectly good TV stand directly underneath it, doing absolutely nothing.
Do people actually get used to watching TV at that angle, or do they just accept the neck pain as part of the living room design?

Bought a stand and set it up at the recommended height for a 55 inch tv. Why does it still seem to high?

Upgraded from 55” to 65” and left the mount as is. I should have adjusted the mount brackets to sit lower, but used the same position as old tv. The mount also has spacers for the top portion of the brackets, which does cause a lean. Didn’t realize how taboo that was until I found this Reddit. I know people prefer tv stand but I like the look and the ability to tilt the tv to my dining room.
Pretty sure it’s too high, but what is done is done. Next time, but what’s the verdict?
