The following article was posted by SWTOR Executive Producer Keith Kanneg.
Hi folks!
Checking in again to let you all know what’s been happening with SWTOR the last few months as well as with DirectX 12!
Game Update 8.0 content
For those who may have missed previous updates with 8.0 content, we revealed that the next Era in SWTOR is called “Masters of the Force.” Keep an eye on that page as it will be updated over time as we release more details.
We also announced the core features that will be coming in 8.0:
We’ve also opened our Public Test Server so Subscribers can get their hands on:
Iterations of the Public Test Server will continue so players can provide their feedback on these features before they go live.
We have not announced a release date yet for 8.0, but we are continuing development and will share more launch details in due time.
Developer Streams
I’m also happy to see the positive reception to the recent Developer Game Update and Let’s Play livestreams. We anticipate a few more Let’s Play streams and another Game Update livestream where we’ll go into the “Galaxy in Chaos” storyline (spoiler-free, of course!)
Our next Let's Play stream will be October 1st at 1pm CT / 6pm UTC on our streaming channel. Stay tuned for more details!
DirectX 12 Update
Since our Spring Update we’ve continued to receive enthusiastic questions about what’s coming next. I pulled in the Technical Team and they have provided the update below:
Hey SWTOR players!
Technical team here to get you up to speed on our most recent progress with DirectX 12. The last time we saw each other, we were explaining that the UI was the one feature that posed the largest obstacle for us.
We’re happy to report that the UI has been ported to DX12 and aside from minor visual differences being fixed, it is fully functional. Pulling back the curtain a bit, we had to upgrade our old version that only supported DX11 and re-architect it so it would work properly with our data. We then changed Scaleform’s DX12 rendering to use Frostbite RenderCore2 and work properly within our engine. For the more technical folks, we also had to port over hundreds of divergences to the new version and once we could verify that everything worked properly, we could move on to DX12.
With the UI in place, we are focused on adding features back into this “DX12 version” of the game to get it looking like the SWTOR you’re familiar with, and lay the groundwork for future additions. This means updating essential shaders, ensuring characters appear with proper customization (skin color, hair color, tattoos, cybernetics, scars, complexions, outfit colors), re-implementing our particle hueing systems, and much more. Lastly, general stability work and other feature additions are ongoing, so we are making fantastic progress.
The next time you hear from us we’ll share an update on when you can see the progress for yourself, and help us with a critical stage of testing for this new client! Thank you for your enthusiasm and support as we continue on the road to modernizing SWTOR!
Keith here again. And there you have it! All of us are pretty excited to get a technical test for our players in the near future.
Before I head out, I want to share some reminders to everyone!
Best Dressed Contest
Our newest community contest is underway! If you are a collector of armor and think you have all the pieces to make an outfit worthy to be displayed for all to see, you will want to enter our Best Dressed contest! Submissions are open now and being accepted until October 11, 2026. Read all of the details on how to enter here!
Gladiopodling Minipet
We have an active minipet code right now and it’s available until December 26, 2026. Redeem code “GETRDY4MOTF” on this page to get your very own Gladiopodling!
Finally, I want to encourage you again to check out the 8.0 content available on the Public Test Server, and get your hands on it if you can. We appreciate your feedback and the time you spend playing on PTS!
Thank you for playing SWTOR. We’ll see you in the next livestream!

Broadsword takes over SWTOR a few years back. Some players at first think that signals the game sunsetting or going into maintenance mode.
Instead, over the next three years SWTOR continues to receive new content and has another expansion in the works.
Fast forward to today, EA shuts down Bioware.
So, in a way, Broadsword actually SAVED SWTOR.
"Ironic" 🤭

With the confirmed shut down of BioWare, where does that leave SWTOR?
I know Broadsword assumed direct development control from BioWare in 2023, but with the original studio being completely shuttered now will there be any sort of effect on SWTOR?

Spent a lot of years hating her, but looking now - she's kinda okay in some terms. Not only she's a high skilled survivalist, she can be very charismatic (actually inspired some Zakuulans to do dangerous shit without any real profit for them). She's also hot and probably freaky as hell. Using agent to kill her exes - yeah, not good, but fitting her character, makes her more alive. Cheating on your own ship - the hell you were expecting starting a relationship with woman like her? Selling imperial data to anarchists - hell yeah actually. Her independence makes her one of the few companions that doesn't feels like a pawn of a protagonist.
I do agree that she's too unpunishable throughout the story and that having her as the only companion until Alderaan is a bit too much. Aside that she slowly become one of my favorite companion

I’m only a week into SWTOR and I’m already completely hooked. You know that feeling when you just know you’re going to love a game before you’ve even properly played it? That’s exactly how it was with SWTOR, and now I’m struggling to find another MMO that gives me the same feeling lol.
I’ve been trying to find a second MMO to rotate between, but so far I’ve tried WoW Retail, GW2, Aion 2 and, most recently, ESO. I’m about 6 hours into ESO and it still hasn’t grabbed me. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with these games, but I keep finding myself bored and wanting to go back to SWTOR instead.
What gets me is how quickly SWTOR pulled me in. The story, characters, music, atmosphere and just the feeling of being in that world make me genuinely excited to log in. With the other MMOs, I feel like I’m waiting for them to click, whereas with SWTOR it happened almost immediately. I’m still new, so maybe that feeling will change eventually, but right now I can’t get enough of it.
Has anyone else experienced this with SWTOR? What do you think makes it so easy to get attached to compared to other MMOs? Is it the story and immersion, or is there just something about the overall experience that’s hard to find elsewhere?
I’m still planning to try OSRS, and I’d love recommendations for another MMO that might click with me. Or have I already found my MMO home and should just stop trying to force myself to like other games? 😂

For those of you who might have participated with the community run PvP leaderboard, what is your opinions regarding your experience? I know that this sub isn’t the most Pro-PvP community, but for me, it’s amazing how refreshing it is to see the impact something as simple as the leaderboards has had on arena queue times. Obviously you can’t help the tryhards that rage, but on the whole, it’s been a fun experience, and it’s nice having a “rating goal” to chase, while I await the new expac
For those that don’t know about it, here’s the link to the site: https://swtor-leaderboards.com/

As a player who leans more towards the Stronghold side of SWTOR, I have spent much time and credits decorating over the years and as shown in the pictures above I think I have gotten very good at it. given that this game has a wide variety of locations avalible i doubt there would be much market for this however I expect that some may seek out new locations for events and stories and this may appeal to them.
I would also like to make credits to fund further improvments to my SHs and to create more. please lmk what you think and maybe a rough barcket for how much I could either rent or sell the keys for (if it helps I am on the Starforge server)
Cant decide which of these look the best
(ignore the lightsabers)

So my account got hacked, and I immidiately managed to change password, before SWTOR could take action, but now SWTOR locked my account. I made 3 calls to SWTOR support, and all three times before they could spell out my username my call dropped and left me with a hefty international call fee. And they do not allow anyother way to contact support.
This is the most absurdly stupid support of any online services I have ever faced. There is absolutely no other way to contact them, not only that they even send me an email associated with my swtor account mentioning that they recieved the call from the number associated with the account and the call was dropped. What The Actual Fuck. Account is still locked, this is a 15yr old account with so much time spent on it.

I'm finally playing through the expansion content, and I got to Desperate Defiance. The change to the VA for the male Agent was pretty jarring. I don't know if it's similar for other classes as this is my first time through the later content.
My boy used to be intense, but also held his cards to his chest, waited to make a decision until he had as much information as possible, and once he made a choice he went after it 100%. Now it sounds like he's been hanging out with the Jedi Knight and makes quick orders with a talent for leadership.
