Stop what you're doing. Elon Musk just made the wildest financial promise in history: giving 1 share of SpaceX to every single child in America.

That’s roughly 72 million kids. At ~$148 a share, we are talking about a massive $10.7 billion wealth transfer.

And it all started with Anthropic.

On Sunday, the AI giant announced it would commit 5% of its shares to a new "public benefit" fund.

Musk replied: "I recommend giving the shares directly to the public".

Hours later, he pledged his own SpaceX equity. The numbers are pretty wild:

• ~72 million children under 18
• ~$148 per share
• ~$10.7 billion in total stock
• ~0.5% of SpaceX's total equity
• Shares pulled directly from Musk's own holdings, without diluting existing investors.

Then he added a warning shot to the rest of the tech industry: "This will be the first of many".

The contrast here is absolutely fascinating. Anthropic would use a company-controlled fund to direct money toward public benefits. Meanwhile, Musk wants to bypass the middlemen and give children the stock itself—including any future gains or losses.

Of course, this is still just a promise.

President Trump stated the shares will be distributed through tax-advantaged "Trump Accounts", but Musk hasn't explained the eligibility rules or how the complex private stock transfers will actually work. And let's be real—one share gives a child virtually no say in how SpaceX is run.

Still, there's something undeniably powerful about turning the debate over who benefits from trillion-dollar tech fortunes into actual stock ownership.

The next great debate about technology and wealth won't just be about Universal Basic Income. It will be about who actually gets to own the upside.

I noticed a lot of people on here really hate SpaceX and Elon, but remember if it wasn’t for Elon, we would be in a situation where we could still have to pay Russia for rides on their soyuz rockets to give our astronauts rides to and from space

I don’t think that would work very well in the current climate, so we should all be very grateful for what SpaceX and particularly Elon has done for America

Orion was recently certified as of April this year, but before that and our primary vehicle was, and still is the SpaceX Dragon

It is the only company in this space sector that has managed to translate its ambitions into substantial revenue.

Bezos has invested more than $30 billion in Blue Origin, and the meager revenue generated by the debut mission of the New Glenn rocket vanished after the launch platform was destroyed. It will take Blue Origin a couple of years to solidify its services, and they will continue to burn through cash to scale up their launch operations.

Another company that stands out is Rocket Lab.A major blow to their plans: due to delays with Neutron, its launch schedule could be pushed back to 2028.

The rest are essentially phantom companies, aspiring to one day become businesses that actually turn a profit.

SpaceX is in that comfortable position where there is no competition, and they are making the most of that advantage.
