Little project I’m working on…. Essentially the plan is to use the Ecoflow as a UPS and have a vastly improved runtime should a power outage occur. Granted it doesn’t have the switching speed as good as an APC but everything I’m running off of it switched over without issue.

This uses the Delta 3 plus, Wattcycle cable and 3 Eco Worthy server rack batteries. Initial testing seems to work as anticipated.

Just thought I’d share

Best Place to Buy Solar Panels for Plug-in Solar, MoCo MD?

I'm not thrilled with the offerings on FB Marketplace or Craig's List within driving distance of MoCo MD. I need top efficiency due to limited space and hours of sunshine. I've read that Greentech Renewables | Jessup might sell individual panels but their web says they are commercial. Dunno if they will do smaller quantities, anyone try there? I have a buddy who is an electrician and said he'd do the purchase but we might need a minimum quantity. I'm thinking a tier1 ~450W dual facial panel. Anyone interested? Any other place to buy small quantities?

Looking for off grid Charger controller with generator input

• Upvotes

Looking for a mid-range charger controller to fit my particular situation. Needs to charge 48v banks of deep cycle lead acid batteries (it's what I have, ok? I know the downsides but severe budget) and in addition to solar input, take 120 or 240VAC input from a generator when needed because I can't add more panels or storage. So far my only other option is a regular charger controller and a AC - DC adjustable bench power supply. You would think with all the off-gridders that this would be an easy search but so far no.

Need advice grounding my off-grid BLUETTI solar system and camper

• Upvotes

I currently don’t have anything grounded. I’m living completely off-grid in Oklahoma and want to make sure my solar system and camper are properly grounded and protected but done know where to begin.
My current setup:
● Power station: BLUETTI AC300 with two B300K batteries (approximately 8 kWh total).
● Solar panels: Four JA Solar 405W panels (1,620W total), two pairs of panels wired in parallel.
● Solar wiring: Approximately 100 feet of 10 AWG solar cable with MC4 connectors and 30A Y-branch connectors.
● Mounting: Solar panels are mounted on a metal and wood frame.
● Camper: 2026 Forest River Wildwood FSX 174DBLE.
● Connection: The BLUETTI connects to the camper through its shore-power cord, although I don’t run the camper continuously from it.
● Camper battery: 12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4.
● Backup generator: Predator 3500 inverter generator.
● Utility power: None.
Solar current question:
My four panels are wired in parallel, so their combined available current exceeds the AC300’s 12A-per-MPPT input limit.
My understanding is that the BLUETTI’s MPPT controller only draws the current it can use, leaving the excess available power unused.
However, I want to confirm that this is safe, particularly regarding the AC300’s maximum PV short-circuit current rating and whether my 10 AWG wiring and 30A connectors are adequate.
My grounding questions:

  1. Do I need to ground the metal frames of my solar panels and their mounting structure? How should I do that?
  2. Does the BLUETTI AC300 itself need an earth-ground connection?
  3. Does my camper’s metal chassis need to be grounded separately, or is the shore-power grounding connection sufficient?
  4. Should the panels, BLUETTI, and camper share a common grounding system? Would I need one grounding rod or multiple?
  5. Does the AC300 require any special neutral-ground bonding arrangement when powering the camper?
  6. What surge protection should I install to protect against lightning and electrical surges?
  7. Does using my Predator 3500 generator change any grounding or bonding requirements?
  8. I’d really appreciate specific recommendations for grounding wire sizes, grounding rods, connection points, and any necessary equipment.
  9. I’ve never done this stuff before so I really appreciate any help I can get
  10. Thanks!

What are the best hybrid backup systems that use solar and batteries together?

Hey folks, what solar + battery setups would you shortlist for home backup? I'd like to use solar during the day, store extra power for evenings, and keep essential loads running during outages. Ideally, solar could keep charging the battery if the outage lasts a few days.

I already have grid-tied rooftop solar, so keeping the current inverter would be a plus. TITAN + SHP10 is one option I'm looking into for its AC coupling support and the flexibility to start with 5kWh and expand in 5kWh increments. I'm still figuring out how much storage I need, so starting small and adding capacity gradually sounds useful. Open to other systems too.

What setup are you running, and how does it handle outages? Curious about usable battery capacity, solar recharging, and how much work it took to get everything connected.

Looking to run a carport off the back of my home in a design similar to the tesla one pictured

Good day!

I currently have an enphase panel system running into a franklin agate with 2 apower2 batteries, the system currently includes 30 Qtron 430w panels and 30 enphase iq8a micro inverters. Id more than likely run a higher wattage panel and micro inverters on the carport system(big enough for 1 truck and 2 cars). Gemini gave me a 34x29 with 32 450w bifacial panels with 32 iq8hc inverters. Assuming without yet looking that this will not fit into my enphase box, but will need an additional enphase box or an upgraded one unless an extra panel box with 2-4 breaker capacity is able to be used beside the enphase box(it was installed by mistake by the previous installer so they left it). Wiring would not be an issue seeing as the panels and wiring are directly next to where the carport would go.

Long term goal, I have 1 EV and currently my solar production does not keep up with the home and EV usage. I want to be able to sustain my EV with room to sustain an additional EV with another solar install on a future garage addition. Has anyone seen or completed any install like this? Id prefer the frame to be metal with no actual roof(panels would be the roof, completely sealed with no leaks if possible).

Concerns,

Pests, birds, and insect buildup like birds nests and wasps/dirt dobbers).

SolarKing 100Ah LiFePO4 stored for 18 months reading 1V after jump-start attempt, is it completely cooked?

I have a barely used SolarKing 12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery (CB-100-12-100) connected to a Renogy shunt monitor that sat in storage for about 18 months without a charge and now won't wake up. I've tried charging it via solar, a 240V lithium charger, and jumping it off a car battery, and while the shunt initially showed +4.41A due to current routing into the car battery, isolating the circuit on the P- side of the shunt showed it was only taking +0.08A because the BMS is locked open and rejecting charge. When I disconnect all charging sources and test the bare battery posts with a multimeter on 20V DC, it reads a flat 1.0V, and the Renogy monitor immediately drops to 0% and 0V with a non-stop alarm that I could only silence by unplugging the display's data cable. Given that it sat for 18 months and immediately snaps back to 1V after applying 12V+ from jumper leads, have the internal cells permanently degraded below their minimum chemical threshold, or is there any safe way left to force-wake the BMS before I recycle it?

Victron products - accessing the programmable relay

Hello. Setting up my first proper system and I'm hoping you can help me save a few dollarydoos by not having to buy a needless product.

I came by a brief bit of info on YT and the manual that some victron products like the Multiplus II and Cerbo have small terminals you can build circuits from and this can be set up to only supply power to that circuit when a certain condition is met. IE: If the system is forced to go down, make this buzzer buzz.

The manual has like 3 lines on it and I'm like yeah, and...?

Since mine'll be a 48v system, and my fridge works on AC or 12 to 24v DC, I'd like to run it without need of an inverter or converter 24/7.

Can I effectively tell the Multiplus to run a particular circuit 24/7 and it will supply anywhere between 12 and 24 volts (I'm not fussy at this stage lol) and run my fridge? Fridge is 45.6w so nothing huge (I don't have the amps figure at hand right now).

And if so, out of curiosity, which voltages are available if needed and what are the amperage limits?

And finally, how is this programming achieved? Will I need to learn some kind of programming language? Or is it a few clicks and a tap in the app? Will I need any special cables to program any of this? And can it function like a timer such as "power this led on Tuesdays between the hours of..."

Thanks heaps. A lot of these questions are also because I have other ideas I could maybe use these relays for if they work like I'm picturing in my head. Oh yeah and also what's the coolest thing you got going on via your relays while I'm here! :D

Need help integrating batteries

I currently have a solar system with palmetto(ppa). They installed it with enphase micro inverters and a combiner box 5 to the main panel. They never mentioned anything about delivery charges so I got an EG4 1200xp and 30kwh server rack style batteries to have on site storage but they are refusing to put the combiner box in ac coupling mode. I'm wondering if there is anyway I can utilize the storage. I'm willing to spend a bit more if there is some equipment I don't know of that can let me utilize what I have already. I'm in Texas and spoken with oncor and they don't have an issue with my plan, just palmetto.

Not looking for full house power, more like i live in a double wide mobile home and was thinking of putting the panels on my small shed with the inverter and batteries inside the shed as a back up generator for if grid gos down, would this power a refrigerator? Should i wire the batteries on series or parallel. Or should i look into a 24v inverter, also can i just slowly keep adding in batteries and solar panels to this system until its full house power?

Advice for battery and controller housing

Post image
8 Upvotes

I have this 50W panel setup but it's still sitting in boxes because I don't know how to enclose it to set it up outside. This is for a demonstration setup at a school. I plan to mount the panel on a pole/post, but I am stuck.on housing for the battery and controller. I have a little USB outlet it will connect to so the students can power some RC cars. As it's for a school the housing/case needs to be economical.

Any advice?

Module bulges due to incorrect optimizer mount

We recently installed a PV setting on top of our garage. We asked around in the neighborhood if someone has experience and (physical) capacity to bring the modules onto our roof.

We found a roofer who apparently did this multiple times before. He properly exchanged the roof tiles and mounted the fixture. Afterwards he installed the optimizers as well as the 19 modules and connected them to a string. Up to this point everything seemed fine even though we were not happy with the missing cable clipping since he left all cables hanging loose underneath the modules.

Yet, 2 weeks after installation it seems as if the modules show a small edgy "bulge" approximately at the point where the SolarEdge optimizers were positioned underneath each module.

I made a picture during the installation if the last module and it appears that all optimizers were mounted with the flat side facing the roof instead of facing the module.

Could this be the reason for the described effect and if so, is this potentially connected to any long-term risks?

Thanks in advance for any hints and feedback

Review of Anker Solix E10 Solar

Felt this was appropriate to share in this community, as community members here are likely to consider the Anker Solix E10 system like I did and I guarantee that Anker mods delete this honest review from their subreddits.

After years of using Anker products, I’m here to provide a review of the company as a whole.

To set the stage, I’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars on “Anker Technologies” products. This includes an Anker solix for most rooms in the house to be used as an UPS and extended/redundant power source. I’ve also got about five Anker Prime Battery Banks. I’ve also got multiple Eufy Omni pro S1+ and S2 robots.

I have also lent out the Anker Solix units to neighbors to keep their appliances running during power outages and they have subsequently purchased their own. I have also done the same with family and friends who have also purchased many Anker and Eufy products as a result.

To say the least, I’ve been a strong advocate for Anker/Eufy.

I naturally went to purchase an additional product and this time it was a large one.. a $40k purchase. I placed an order for $40k worth of Anker E10 equipment on an essentially maxed-out system. We called the customer service to asked about paying with two payment methods and they said there is an option for split payment methods which we quickly confirmed while still one the phone. This method at checkout states: “Select this option to complete your order now and arrange payment separately. We accept bank transfer, ACH, or payment split across multiple cards.”

We checkout, and get an email asking us to wire the full sum to the bank details in the email. We call customer service and explain we do not want to submit a wire transfer, and would like to split payment across multiple cards as SPECIFICALLY and EXPRESSLY confirmed prior to purchasing and as expressly confirmed in the quoted checkout details above. The customer service agent now says that they do not support multiple cards for checkout and that the only way to use multiple cards is to make multiple transactions. We explained we were trying to take part in a promotion to spend a certain amount and get more. They assured us that if we made separate transactions that they would honor the free items even though they weren’t on the order. I specifically told them on the phone this sounded sketchy and like a scam and recorded the call because my gut told me this was going to backfire.

I then placed new orders across multiple transactions with multiple cards as initially desired. Come to order processing and shipping, they did not process the extra item, and combined with further issues I had with the customer service agent following up and regarding them being unable to provide truthful/accurate information on the specifications of the system and what it could and could not do.. I requested the orders to be cancelled because I got the feeling the sales promises were not lining up with reality. It was too sketchy and too many red flags were being raised. The items had not shipped. A few days later, the freight company called me to schedule delivery and specifically told me they had not actually received the items yet, but that they wanted to get me in the books and find a day that worked for me since I’m out of the normal route area. I explained to them that I already requested the orders be cancelled and that I would like to refuse shipment at that point and save them a trip to pick up the items from Anker just to have them return the items.

Come to find out, Anker is trying to strong arm me into being forced to take the items that they have failed to fulfill according to the contractural agreement of the order made, and additionally, they have not only made the freight company pick up the items AFTER I requested cancellation, they also now are not processing a return to sender and the freight company is sending out legal demands for storage charges. It started out by threatening me that if I want to return the items I will have to pay a restocking fee and I will have to pay for return shipping, to which I told them, the items were never delivered.

Needless to say.. Anker will not earn another cent of my money and I will have to go tell all the people that I’ve encouraged and advocated to spend money on Anker/Eufy… that I misled them.. and this company is beyond shady and absolutely someone I would NEVER use a debit card with. Thankfully, I have a great relationship with my credit card company and have disputed the charges, but that doesn’t save me from having tens of thousands of dollars worth of products currently, that are “warrantied” by scumbag bullies who think they can just force people into situations that they can’t control. Fortunately, I have recorded all my calls with them and have screenshots to CMA and have the means to litigate, but that’s a drastically different Anker than I’ve been recommending for years to pretty much everyone I know.

Most people will not have an issue with this, but be aware that Anker is not the company it once was and the customer service is manipulative and deceitful. They are not against getting legal, so be prepared to either swallow the BS or document every step of the way.

18kpv inverter bad after 10 months

Post image
43 Upvotes

I have 2 18kpv inverters. Recently noticed my array was only producing about 1/2 the normal kWh. Called support when found a fault and it was the firmware failed to upload/download. They pushed a firmware update. Supposedly they sent two updates at the same time and the system did not like that. I called again because the download was stuck on 0% on the display screen.

They showed me how to manually update firmware from my phone but couldn’t connect (error message) then they told me my board was bad. Thankfully they said they replace the unit for free, but it’s going to either cost $1k to get it reinstalled or spend a lot of time (that I don’t have right now) getting the new one installed.

My question is, is there any chance that they are wrong and I can try something else first? The “INV” light on the dongle flashes but never solid. I tried Bluetooth firmware and wifi firmware update connections.

Looking for an easy to use battery monitor

I have an off grid system at a remote location that utilizes two 5 khw lifep04 batteries and about 1600W solar. I'm looking for an easy to use battery monitor that can connect to the wifi down there, and I can remotely monitor the batteries from my home. Bonus points if it also measures the ambient temperature. My batteries offer a wealth of information via Bluetooth, but you obviously have to be close enough for the Bluetooth to work.

Adding storage to an existing array specifically for PSPS

NorCal, on PG&E, so the PSPS shutoffs are a recurring thing. It's always nice watching your panels sit there doing nothing on those days. I want to add storage to the existing array and I'm trying to figure out which parts of the install I can realistically do myself vs what needs an electrician.

Current setup is Enphase IQ7+ micros through a 200A main panel, solar is on NEM 2.0. I've been looking at the Anker Solix E10 as one option. It has its own inverter built in, but I'm not sure how it would integrate with the existing IQ7+ setup or what isolation and control equipment would be needed during an outage. If I do the physical prep myself, mounting, conduit, what does the electrician handle for permit and sign-off? Want to agree on the split before starting, not figure it out after.

On the export side I'm looking at the non-export path under Rule 21. I'd like to keep the existing NEM 2.0 solar export arrangement and I'm wondering about making just the new battery non-export. Has anyone gone that route with PG&E? Did it actually simplify the application, or was the paperwork much the same? Backup during PSPS is the main goal.

I have 800w of solar panels and 4, 12v 100ah Batteries in parallel! Took me about 3 weeks of weekends to complete.
