History How can you be so sure?

Post image

This 1938 newspaper clipping recounts a real historical mix-up involving Charles Keville, who was mistakenly presumed dead after a massive New England hurricane and calmly corrected authorities by viewing his supposed corpse and walking away

Charlie get home that night. Wife asks, "How was your day, honey?"
"Temporary morgue called."
"Oh yeah?"
"Said they had my body."
"Did they, now?"
"Well, they did say it."
"That's what I meant, didn't mean did they have it."
"Figured. Anyways, had to go on down there."
"Was the feller you?"
"Nope. Wasn't me and I told them so."
"Good for you. Now wash up, dinner's almost ready."

Reminds me of that Monty Python skit
Honey, there's a man at the door with a moustache.
Well tell him I've already got one!

It reminded me of the one where there’s trouble down at the mill because one of the crossbeams has gone all out of skew on the treadle

Walk in, see body, say "Oh my god! I'm dead! How could this happen?!" Fall to knees and cry.

"I am Pagliacci". Wait, is that not how it goes?

Afraid not, Pagliacci.

Would be a great bit for an estranged identical twin.

Sorry sir. We are not allowed to get body identification from dead people

I am not dead.

Unfortunately the system says you are, so we need someone else to confirm that you are dead

Imagine being the person running the temporary morgue. You finally think you have one identified and checked off, only for the actual guy to stroll in, say two words, and hand you back a mystery corpse.

Well if anyone would know, I guess it would be him.

If he walked out again, does that mean this was at least the second time he was brought in and asked if that was him?

"...three weeks ago, someone released a lethal virus on Penn Station. I woke up in a morgue..."

I want to see the argument/reasoning they used to convince him to go check.
