First, we need to get rid of “social" media platforms especially FB, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
This has accelerated the brain rot to unprecedented levels.
Hold all the tech bros accountable (Nuremberg style or French Revolution style works too).

Social media, Reddit included, needs to all go away for the good of the world. I’m afraid that’s not gonna happen, though

I am certain there are changes we can make to make social media better but I think the toothpaste is out of the tube on just the existence of social media.

It should at least be regulated a whole lot more, including identity checks and a strong anti bot policy.

Currently it is the Wild West, and a tool used by populists and malicious regimes to gain foothold in other countries.

That might help. Money controls the algorithm, and the algorithm keeps us occupied and misinformed, and more scarily diversely informed. People who lived similar lives and would agree on most things before, are now so different because the information they are fed doesn’t overlap. How do you make them unify? How do you even make them vote?
There are days where I think it is too late.

It is humans against big money.

Unify. The one thing they don’t want.

Many industries (at least pre-Trump era) are held accountable if their products cause harm. Social media should be held to the same standards. The truth is, Meta and Alphabet do have the resources to curb disinformation and propaganda, but the cost would make their executives millionaires instead of billionaires. Which is fine.

Same thing as with arms manufacturers, no need to create a whole new infrastructure to reign in their mayhem, just sic our current litigation culture to dismantle them.

I totally agree it’s shit that they took something wholesome and human like having a social life, monetized the crap out of it, and then said children’s mental health be damned, Money! Money! Money! I just draw the line at mass public beheadings.

Generally opposed to capital punishment myself but there are a few heads I wouldn't mind seeing roll.

Took me a while to find this. But was hoping to find someone saying it too. Fully agree meta and til tok need to be held to account. Their grip on politics and wilful manipulation of elections worldwide is going unchecked and unchallenged. Imagine some media mogul doing this 30 years ago people would want to tear the power away from them. But that is exactly what we have now but disguised in the form of nonsense reels and shorts that is actually trying to undo laws and regulations

Social media isn’t going away. What we need is a fucking moral compass in this country. It’s been broken for 40+ years.

We need to get rid of Citizens United, corporate lobbyists, and their supporters allowing what is basically bribery of our politicians. The politicians DO NOT and WILL NOT answer to everyday people as long as this is allowed.

Think about it… why would someone spend time doing town halls, meeting everyday people with the right intents to listen and want to make things better, etc when a corporation will donate $5-10M to your campaign so you let them do things they want. Instead of a politician going around city to city to get votes and support to get elected, someone from a company will come to him with a check. Then all they need to do is have the mega rallies in major cities and thats it.
