To think that the US used to be a reliable partner for Europe and a bastion against dictatorships that couldn't be exploited for oil is truthfully painful.

u/OmarM7mmd 12h ago

Dude what? The US installed dictatorships more than any other country, in the Americas alone they’ve installed several, in Iran they overthrew an elected president then installed the Shah which gave way to the IRGC.

1

u/johnathome 12h ago

They overthrew the Prime Minister, they didn't install the Shah, he was already there.

They installed the radical Islamists along with the communists. Then they turned on the communists.

France and the UK were both instrumental in this as well as the Americans.

Everybody knows that. Read what was said.

Bruh, what are you talking about? US are the one overthrowing legitimate head of state and installing dictator around the world since ww

u/Eric_12345678 12h ago

The deal was: do whatever you want in South America and the middle East, leave Europe alone.

2

u/Propellerrakete 8h ago

Well, the west also tolerated Spain, Portugal and Greece for a good while during the cold War

1

u/No_Vermicelli4753 12h ago

'that couldn't be exploited for oil'.

3

u/Medical_Marketing_24 11h ago

They did it to any country showing signs of moving away from Capitalism.

1

u/SoMuchForSubtleties0 12h ago

They did some good and helped stability before as well.... (But yes, also bad too)

Yeah but from a European point of view, these didn't impact us. The US helped us rebuild, keep the peace, unite Germany etc. We knew they were cunts in latin America and the middle east, but kind of turned a blind eye.

4

u/SerpentineSliver 11h ago

Europe finally realising the truth you mean?

7

u/ash_tar 10h ago

I'm saying we always knew, but we didn't feel the impact before.

4

u/Particular-Mark-5771 11h ago

And there it is. Thank you for your servitude to the power elite.

4

u/fuckedubydfo 10h ago

Europe is another imperialist shit hole😭😭😭

5

u/ash_tar 10h ago

euhm we wrote the book on imperialism.

u/Chimpstrider 9h ago

Europe is 50 countries depending on context, my uneducated friend. They have very different histories

what does that have to do with the US being a reliable partner? for sure there were some cold war shenanigans but nothing on the scale of what happened in the Americas.

Ok buddy, I didn't claim that.

u/navyblusheet 11h ago

Hmmm are you saying US treated white majority countries way differently than non white countries? And this is the one of reasons why white majority countries are richer? At least you are waking up to the lies of white supremacy, welcome brother.

3

u/ash_tar 10h ago

We are richer because we industrialized early and heavily, with easy access to resources in colonies etc.
Being white is part of the story, but the US specifically propped up Germany and Japan as vassal states in an economic system that exchanged trade imbalance with western Europe and east Asia for massive investments in wall street. It's kind of the basis of the world economy and US hegemony post WW2.

1

u/LimiteeritudAeg 10h ago

wouldnt that be normal? like you wouldnt call yellow country helping yellow countries white supremacist, they are ancestrally more linked so it is to be exptected.

2

u/Schweppin 12h ago

You are missing half a list! Like i can easily add 8 more.

Erm...isn't Shah Reza the guy who modernized Iran?

0

u/Jealous_Response_492 11h ago

Yeah, all of the above, was very much in the US national interest. What the current US gov is doing, is simply not.

u/No_Vermicelli4753 12h ago

Instead of being in an idiotic rage and creating this table, you could have read and understood what was said.

4

u/Medical_Marketing_24 11h ago

Might want to reread yourself.

31

u/Satanicjamnik 12h ago

Trump singlehandedly destroyed any shred of reputation and diplomatic good will that US gained in the last 80 years of modern history.

13

u/DinMammasNyaKille 12h ago

Not really, he had lots of help by passive congressmen and senators.

1

u/Satanicjamnik 12h ago

Sure, but as you said - they were just cheerleading him from the sidelines.

2

u/SusanMilberger 12h ago

oopsie daisy

9

u/Round_Stranger_408 12h ago

...and to think how recently and for how long Republicans would call anybody who wanted minority rights or a 40 hour work week "pinko," "commie, "none dare call it treason," etc. (Of course they still make those accusation because their base doesn't know that words have meanings, but you take my point.)

u/unlimited-devotion 12h ago

Red diaper doper babies was my favorite

🙄

7

u/YawgO1999 12h ago

The USA routinely installed dictatorships, at great expense to civilian populations, and has always been energy driven in terms of global policy. Nations do not have friends, only national interests. Can't trust them!

30

u/mweeelrea 13h ago

Let's not make that mistake gain. The U.S. Can not be trusted

23

u/balloonerismthegreat 13h ago

As an American I don’t even trust us. Never have. I think what we are seeing is our true colors finally being revealed. Killing in the name of “freedom” has always been bullshit

5

u/Dry-Professional-552 12h ago

When you stop and realize “communism” meant U.S. boys dying in Vietnam because U.S business can’t own nationalized industry in communist counties.

That’s it. They died for capitalism. U.S. military is mob muscle for big business.

1

u/MurderDeathTaco 12h ago

As they say, what were the chances that every time America went looking for Democracy, they found oil instead? 😭

5

u/onthe3rdlifealready 13h ago

Can anyone in power be trusted at this point?

-1

u/tevolosteve 12h ago

I think it is more accurate to say every country looks out after their business interests over the common good

6

u/mcrireddit 13h ago

Hey, at least we know how it is.

I´m sure Europe will learn from this and avoid these mistakes in the future!

2

u/Brave_Nerve_6871 12h ago

This is infuriating as well as so fucking embarrassing for Americans. Oh my god

1

u/Useful-Problem-1725 12h ago

we'll all be laughing about this in 250 years

2

u/PM_ME_YR_NAKED_BODY 12h ago

Well, /you and I/ won't be, but hopefully someone is!

1

u/DSJ-Psyduck 12h ago

I know child birth was a big part of it but media age around 1900 was 47 :P
And 250 likely pushing it. But we most likely will see 150+ years in the next 100 years.

And i would not completely rule out 200 either the better we get at managing age.

1

u/PM_ME_YR_NAKED_BODY 12h ago

Yes I think its the generation below me that will see widespread large increases in lifespan. Tech isn't quite there yet. I'm pretty much 40.

1

u/DSJ-Psyduck 12h ago

Yea to late for me as well im a smoker as well and got autisme lol im basically dead :D (in my early 40s)

-8

u/Spiritual-Fun-9591 12h ago

Russia is the reason Europeans aren’t all speaking German currently

1

u/gazonfire83 12h ago

No but if they'd had their way we would all be speaking Russian.

-2

u/Spiritual-Fun-9591 11h ago

Apparently world history is not your forte

1

u/gazonfire83 10h ago

Why please tell me, was the cold war imaginend then ?

0

u/Spiritual-Fun-9591 10h ago

It doesn’t make what I said any less true. This conversation is a waste of brain cells
