There was one singular thing my recruiter told me before I joined that was true and stayed true the whole time I was in. He said the moment that I think 'surely this is the dumbest person that could ever get into the military.' not too long after having that thought, I'll meet someone dumber.

u/soba_set 9d ago
As someone that's worked in military circles before, it's true. There are a lot of great people in the military, and I've met some very smart people in there. There are also a lot of people you're just thinking "holy fuck almighty, how can someone be so dumb and why do you have any ounce of responsibility at all?"

Years ago we had a guy come through our unit who forged his dad's signature for a loan on a decade old truck with a rotted out bed. Max interest, all the awful shit. We tried to talk him into giving that lemon back or selling it. Instead he went awol and stole a trailer with someone's boat attached.
If you talked to him all he would talk about was the jews, 9-11 and how liberals made everything worse. If you called him out on his wack Conspiracy theories he would quote the exact definition of the word "conspiracy" and then call you a lib. When we finally chaptered his ass out of the army we saw that he was living in a garden shed with a bucket system with hoses for a shower and he was hoarding moonshine pickles and empty cat food cans... like rows of them.
It is a volunteer army. Not every veteran is a shining example of selfless service and integrity.

Anyone who’s ever had to do any classroom training with the military will know for sure.
Heck you can even find it in places where there’s very diverse recruitment - or even in volunteer positions and such. As an adult having to sit through PowerPoint with people who couldn’t even sit still for 5 minutes to concentrate, let alone comprehend the slides.

Poor people? Fuck that. I don't know how these people get their news, but when you turn on the tv, I know for a fact that there's more than fox or newsmax or o a n to watch. Because I myself go out of my way to watch new different news channels and to look for stations that are outside of the US, just so I can get an outside view of what the fuck is really going on here. Because our media is not telling us shit.

That's because their answers are trained talking points by right wing propaganda disguised as media.
These people regurgitate the scripted talking points. If you keep pressing them with questions trying to get clearer answers, you can actually see them short out in real time when they run out of scripted responses. "Democrats don't allow him to fix prices"
My boy in red hat, who controls the oval office and the entire senate? Republicans are fully in control. If they gave a fuck they could already fix something, but they don't want to which is why they haven't.
"Donald runs country like a business, he's a businessman"
Yeah, same "businessman" bankrupted a casino. Twice. How fucking incompetent you have to be to bankrupt a literal money printing business. Hell, motherfucker got defeated by a reflecting pool. A fucking reflecting pool!
Yeah, it is terrifying to see people like this. This kind of people shouldn't be allowed online and they shouldn't be allowed to vote, because their critical thinking is non existent. In fact I wonder how motherfuckers like this manage to actually live and survive every single day.
178
u/Glyph8 9d ago edited 9d ago
Two small corrections: he bankrupted FOUR casinos; and not due to his incompetence per se, but rather due to his incessant criminal grifting and greed. He is indeed running America “like a business”, in that he’s squeezing everything he can into his pockets while it goes up in flames. “Incompetence” implies he TRIED to run a good business but failed. But Trump only tries to benefit Trump; he bankrupted these businesses on purpose and succeeded.
Lipson also published an op-ed in USA Today about how Trump’s bankruptcy tactics helped shape his political style.
Trump’s casinos in Atlantic City have been through four bankruptcies, Lipson noted. No other large business has been through more than three, he said.
“Trump has justified the bankruptcies as ‘an effective and commonly used practice...to restructure a business and ultimately save jobs,’” Lipson wrote. “While that is one reason Congress created chapter 11, the evidence shows that Trump twisted the process to benefit himself, even as the casinos continued to hemorrhage jobs and lose money.”

It makes no sense. If hes running the country like a business, then hes in completely control. Also if hes running this country like a business, that means the citizens are the customers. A "good" business man isn't going to leave $ on the table, hes gonna squeeze every penny he can outta his customers. And hopefully with out them being the wiser. The best way to achieve those things is blaim rising prices on an outside source, like a regulatory agency or the competition. Funny enough those are his 2 favorite scape goats..... 🤔🤔🤔🤔

It not intelligence unfortunately. It’s hate and fear. Their entire world view and political position is based around who they hate (which is just fear in a mask) and what they are afraid of. It’s really easy to manipulate someone in that position.
They have a totally different reality because their algorithms feed into that. If you’ve never compared instagrams with someone who you disagree with. It’s almost like we are all getting different “facts” and tons of morons who sound confident and intelligent enough that they believe it’s a valid position shared by many. When half those accounts are not even in America. Or they are bots.
These algorithms and these practices will be written about as the source of sooo much destruction and already have been. It’s not just political. It’s men against women and vice versa. It’s races against one another by highlighting the worst instances to substantiate those backwards beliefs. We’ve let them do so for 25 years with absolutely zero regulation or oversight.
An entire generation of kids were born into this and we will also write about the damage this did to an entire generation. Not as a failure of mothers. But a system that is so greedy it cannot even allow a mother time to be with her newborn child. Yet we sit here with 25 brands of Dr.pepper knock offs and giant cheap TVs. We have division to levels we’ve never seen. Poor people sorted into teams by our media and the great algorithm. Then taught to hate each other.

u/SammyK123 9d ago
Most big news outlets have been infiltrated by MAGA and are not reporting on big issues that make Trump look bad. And if they are, it’s severely downplayed or skewed in some way. And these people do not get anything but MAGA in their algorithm, they only get spoon fed MAGA slop, so it’s no wonder they have no fucking clue what’s going on. This is exactly how this administration wants us Americans, stupid and uninformed. That’s why Trump said stupid people love him and smart people hate him.

Fox is very picky about what it reports on. Let’s say one day, gas prices fell to $3 for some reason. Even if they skyrocketed back up the next day, all you would hear on Fox is how low Trump has gotten has prices compare to Biden.
When gas prices are high, like now, you don’t hear about it. Instead they get to cherry pick another story that makes the right look good, or makes the left look bad.
And MAGAs will just keep that one-day news report in their head as the norm.
Fox is basically state run TV right now.

It’s crazy how common anti-education sentiment is here. A lot of families straight-up treat schools like the enemy. You get a lot of that "my kid, my rules" attitude, so schools end up getting blamed for everything wrong with kids just to take the heat off parents. It’s easy to single out schools, too, because everyone went to one. It hits this weird mix of nostalgia, regret, pride, and community that most other things just don't. That means everyone has a strong opinion, but it's usually backed by outdated memories and whatever is being reinforced by people around them

There's a few things working against education. Firstly, our military relies on volunteers and attracts most of them from poor and less educated neighborhoods. Fixing education would directly reduce their volunteer pool.
Secondly, Republicans have realized that well educated people were less likely to vote for them and have done a lot to worsen education.
Finally, there was a bad study on how reading is learned that ruined a couple of generation's literacy

"Look. You think how stupid people are most of the time. Old men drink. Women at a village fair. Boys throwing stones at birds. Life. The foolishness and the vanity, the selfishness and the waste. The pettiness, the silliness. You think in war it must be different. Must be better. With death around the corner, men united against hardship, the cunning of the enemy, people must think harder, faster, be...better. Be heroic.
Only it's just the same. In fact do you know, because of all that pressure, and worry, and fear, it's worse. There aren't many men who think clearest when the stakes are highest. So people are even stupider in war than the rest of the time. Thinking about how they'll dodge the blame, or grab the glory, or save their skins, rather than about what will actually work. There's no job that forgives stupidity more than soldiering. No job that encourages it more." Joe Abercrombie, The Heroes

He knows. But he can't say it in public or even out loud at all. Because years of sucking Trumps shrimp very vocally would make him look like an idiot. His breaking point to finally admit he was wrong 10 years ago is still far beyond the current level of madness in the White House.
But it's definitely humbling for him to realize without a Maga leader telling him exactly when to clap to some utter bs told on stage he's like a fish out of water. Cause there's no foundation at all to it. They need the crowd around them, the online echo chamber, the bot posts and the easy slogans to feel like they're right. All alone with someone asking uncomfortable questions to their reality it caves in all too quickly.

I’m paraphrasing, but “I’m a veteran so I know what I’m talking about” is one of the most cocksure statements. You’re a veteran because you were a D student in high school, Chad.
Edit: I work with vets, and many are some of the brightest and hardest working people I’ve ever met. But around 2/3 of them identify as Republican. If there was a Venn diagram, I think there would be a big overlap of that 2/3 and the ones that clearly had no other option than the military because they are idiots, not because they couldn’t afford college or any other good reason to enlist.
Edit 2: Corrected Venn diagram and admit I had no idea it was spelled that way since I haven’t made one in about 25 years. But at least I’m not an OSU fan.

And being a D student is what drew him to the right, because they told him his failings and struggles were someone else’s fault.

That’s what it means to be “saved”. Once you accept JC as your personal lord and savior (or at least publicly declare so), you aren’t responsible for anything that you do wrong for the rest of your life. God loves you despite the fact that you are imperfect so you can go about being a shithead and not giving a crap about people outside of your immediate household. That’s why you can’t be a Demoncrat and be saved. Too much critical thinking and empathy which makes you gay. /S

I am a veteran and I dislike how it seems to qualify you for sainthood these days. Lots of assholes and idiots have been veterans all through history. That did not suddenly stop circa 1990. Lee Harvey Oswald, Tim McVeigh, Nidal Hasan, the list is long.

Stupid people are far easier to manipulate and ease into fascism. Same reason the us oligarchs are saying they don’t want college educated people, the dumber you are, the more compliant you’ll be.

The lack of sensible reasoning really is disturbing. It’s Bidens fault because… because. The prices will be fixed because Trump is a businessman. Wars in oil rich nations don’t affect oil prices because… they don’t. He’s not able to back up a single one of his conclusions

He certainly didn't use the G.I. Bill for any education. To say, with a straight face, that having a Democrat president for "a very long time" is the reason for high gas prices is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. He should be wearing an Ohio State Elementary School hoodie.

The lack of critical thinking skills in combination with a neutered media creates the vacuum filled by the authoritarian state. They adore the authoritarian model because it fulfills the American cowboy myth while simultaneously not asking for them to become anything more than a compliant consumer. Freedom from personal or societal growth — perfection! /s
