Yes, with bush we thought it was ridiculous.
This is finding your friend unconscious with a needle in the arm. And when you check to see if hes ok, he wakes up and points a gun at you and start "talking" frantically in non-words. With a gun pointed at you.
And then he gets re-elected. With a gun pointed at you.
14
u/schmapeschmape 14d ago
No, I disagree. Bush was an idiot. He didn't conceive of any of the things he did. Cheney and the business, political elite were responsible for telling Bush what to do.
Trump is the same way. He's greedy but not smart enough to come up with these ideas. What genius comes up with Trump Steaks, Trump University, and Trump Ties? With all of his money, he wanted to sell ties? C'mon. The political, business, military establishment in the US is pushing Trump. The only difference is that they are bolder and Trump's greed gives their plans a steroid shot.
The next republican president is going to be bad, really bad. There is a clear pattern in the US.

It is not to be understood outside of its context, though. It is tied to "except step down from his back". I guess its more obvious to me, because im also a dane.
Perhaps it could be viewed more accurately in english with some commas.
"I am sitting on the back of a man, he is sinking under my burden.
I will do anything to help him, except step down from his back."
But that makes the sentences too long and i think Jens want trump to be able to read it.

Tarriff hurts Americans not the country it is imposed on. They are primarily meant for India and China cos those are two primary suppliers of USA.
42
20
u/Toums95 14d ago
They hurt everyone. If the US imposes tariffs on European goods, those goods become more expensive and people will switch to similar goods made in countries with less tariffs or for cheaper. The manufacturer of those goods see revenue and sales decline, which is bad for them and the country they pay taxes and employ people in
15
u/Apollo114892 14d ago
They will just find a new client. Many Asian countries just did that. Europe has already signed FTA's so they don't need US as a consumer anymore.
3
u/Toums95 14d ago
How about selling to the US and find a new client at the same time? Still better than just finding a new client.
There is no way you can say that losing a paying customer is not a problem for a business.
You also can't generalize, some sectors rely heavily on selling to the US, some less. For some sectors it could be relatively easily (but still costly, time consuming and problematic) to find a new customers, some sectors will have a much harder time.

It's a bit naive to think this way. These people see Europe and the rest of the world as either parasties feeding on US wealth, or as their enemies. So when Trump is hated and opposed, for them it's a good sign. So what they think is actually that others hate him because he 'finally protects US from being exploited' and that everyone else is just jealous. You know, the typical 'they hate him because he finally puts great US first'.
26

Your deep internal sicknesses are yours to deal with. But just because Trump makes the headlines, doesn't necessarily mean we don't understand where he's coming from and why. It's just that it's part of his job to represent your people abroad. So this statue is as much a mockery of Trump as the expression of our concern about the kind of society that gave rise to such a buffoon. And if his successor is equally as problematic and lunatic (but that's doubtful), they'll get the same level of attention.

Trump is just seen as a symbol of American society. I know very very few who thinks the relationship can ever return to status quo. When hearing our diplomats and other representatives speak, that much is also made painfully clear.
Half a century of built up trust is lost, and it will take as much to build it back up.
Right now we are just keeping it cordial until we are strong enough on our own. Unfortunately, the French were right and most of the rest of Europe ignored them.

u/vijfteen 14d ago
Whoever is the next president will surely have improved relations with the EU. All 3 of Trumps predecessors including Bush Jr were very friendly and pro-EU relations. → More replies (1)4
u/vijfteen 14d ago
Is it bold? Trump/MAGAs approval ratings are plummeting and his brand is becoming toxic. Everyone who has suckled at his teat for the last 10 years will need to answer for why they have supported starting foreign wars and tanking the domestic economy.
As much as it can pain us to admit, Trump was something special when he became a mainstream political candidate. His strength and the RP's weakness is that he is an extremely singular indiviudal, a true cult of personality. Nobody can "do" Trump or "do" MAGA in the way that Trump has been able to.
Here's an easy question; close your eyes and picture who the next Republican president is going to be. JD Vance? The most hated vice president in history? Ted Cruz? A man who's biggest recent claim to fame is abandoning his state in the middle of a weather emergency to go on vacation? The only one I could see right now is Rubio, and Rubio is at his core a "moderate" Republican, not MAGA.
I think one of the greatest things Trump and his crew have accomplished is convincing people that they are part of this inevitable turning of the tide of American society. That they are indestructible and very powerful. If you look at how much of Trump's agenda he has actually been able to accomplish, and not just focus on the massive repercussions of his actions that he doesnt control, you will see... the guy cant really get anything done. Everything he tries to do turns to shit, backfires on him and causes him problems. We have 2 more years of this to ride out. Don't expect Trump to do anything but double and triple down on his own personal brand. Do expect the day when Trump realizes he is going to lose and makes a statement along the lines of "All you Republicans are stupid, I never cared about you anyways, youre a bunch of losers and dont deserve me"; because it is certainly coming.

4
u/xxxBuzz 14d ago
Did Bush Jr really have a great run? We renamed French Fries and French Toast for a while, started multiple wars that lasted decades, and pretty much strong armed most of the world into participating. I can't imagine he had worse relationships by any means because he's a fairly charismatic guy and had much influential and effective people involved, but it was not great times. It helped set the precedent for the current times. We got the Patriot Act after it was revealed the US was spying on everyone illegally. People in general also weren't as supportive of a lot of stuff going on at the time as hindsight makes it appear. It was also crazy times. It might be beneficial to be more pro-active in how the whole situation has unfolded over time to get us to the current situations. The entire relationship within politics and the "Us vs. Them" strategy between the two parties was largely crafted around the Bush Jr. presidencies. He probably wouldn't have had a chance without that and it's plausible the more recent elections wouldn't have beeen possible without it. Certainly not all the ignorant animosity that was promoted. It has been a process.

THE American President has ALWAYS been in the focus of Europe, Biden was, and Ovama as well. There is a simple reason, Europe is a continent that relies mostly in trade and the US has always been a very important factor for europeans. Therefore it's just logical that Europeans are outraged when the American idiocracy decides to form a Cult around a deranged sociopathic childmolestor and even crown him as president TWICE... Apart from that, feel free to address whatever you think the cause for that sickness is. There is always awareness to be gained and things to learn. You could also always create your own post

All in all one thing is sure: There is no reliability for more than 4 years... the US can switch to a compeltly different direction every 4 years... it makes it very unpredictable and unable to enter into long-term agreements
5
u/LuciaLovesEthereals 14d ago
I don't think any of them will be surprised. It's not some hidden, trivia-level fact that we hold elections every four years. Business ties have been cut, new ones have been made. By the time Donald Dump is out of office some of those new not-USA business ties will have been going 2-3 years. If they are stable, why the hell would they turn back to the USA even if the house, senate, and presidential seat all go blue? There's always the chance that in 4-8 years the Republicans get back in office and shit all over everything again. We are at a low, low, low point. People aren't just gonna forget this.
5
u/ElectronicPrint7607 14d ago
I find it rather insane to pin the degraded relationship between US and Europe on the Europe-side. But it is true that the relationship between US and close to every other allied country has taken a huge blow. My guess is that the US will be the big losers in the end.

So then what do you suggest? A sculpture of 76 million Trump voters, media ecosystem, economic climate, educational system, Etc that allowed trump? Or maybe could we just understand that Trump is a symbolic representation of all of these problems manifest into one individual. Only problem I see with this is that the scales he's holding appear to be balanced? Unless there's something symbolic about it that I'm failing to grasp.

Other countries do such clever and cool depictions of this fattie. America needs to get angry and step it up.

I know social media and the internet has let thing spread faster but I seriously don't know any other US President that got this much ridicule. I've seen funny Bush (Sr and Jr), Obama, Nixon, Clinton etc but Trump. Holy moly, has to be a world record at this point.

They show clips of him on the news here in Australia and you sit there watching with your family and after he's finished talking everyone is just like "wtf???" It's like a skit made up to be funny or sad but it's real. It is unfathomable to us that somebody so incoherent and moronic can be in the job he is.

He will write a message in capital letters ending with "Thank you for your attention to this matter, DJT"

It's crazy that Trump Derangement Syndrome has spread all the way to europe, this might actually be one of the craziest disease spreadings of all time, worse than the plague.

Trump literally threatened to invade Greenland, a Danish territory. Did you expect them not to be upset?

Would he even be offended by this statue? It seems to be how he sees himself; a golden person who is above everyone else.

"The Orange Plague" is an awesome name. Gotta say Trump really has permanently destroyed the Atlantic relationship...

The European mean teenage girl attitude towards trump and America is really really pathetic, always claiming moral high ground. Meanwhile Dutch Queen and Prime Minister were posing with that IS guy, forgive and forget I guess.

Agreed. In fact it's so childish it makes Trump look like the adult in the room.

Trump? Adult? Are you stupid or just a US citizen? The venn-diagram for those are pretty overlapping.
