Welcome to /r/ShermanPosting!

As a reminder, this meme sub is about the American Civil War. We're not here to insult southerners or the American South, but rather to have a laugh at the failed Confederate insurrection and those that chose to represent it.

John Brown did many things wrong, tactically and strategically. It's only morally that he was absolutely right.

Even Frederick Douglass was like "uh that sounds like a bad idea."

In his defense, Harriet Tubman was supposed to be there but she got sick.

Interesting fact. Lewis Washington, the grandnephew of George Washington, lived in Harper’s Ferry and was captured by John Brown during the raid. He testified against Brown at his trial. He sided with the Confederacy during the Civil War and unsurprisingly was pardoned by Andrew Johnson for his support of the Confederacy after the war ended.

No American politician in their right mind is imprisoning or shooting George Washington’s relative

Not to turn this into any weird thing but I really never liked the “John Brown Did Nothing Wrong” mantra. It always seemed defensive. I would love to see the Frederick Douglass quote associated with John Brown.

"I could live for the slave; John Brown could die for him."

I’m sure there are a ton of people here in the know but I’ve been listening to “The Confederacy Myth” and the environment the slaver scum created in Missouri and surrounding states would 100% justify John Brown and his vengenance in a ideological, spiritual and physical war.

He could’ve used more discretion on his killing sprees.

The only thing John Brown did wrong was fail to start a slave revolt.

The crime they hanged him for was taking up arms against the government to end slavery.

Standing at his execution was Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, who less than two years later would take up arms against the government to preserve it.

Also watching was John Wilkes Booth, who would go on to assassinate Abraham Lincoln.

Apparently, armed rebellion is a hanging offense when you're trying to free slaves, but a matter of Southern heritage when you're fighting to keep them.
