Another announcement coming this week at GTC Berlin, expect a release date for Mercedes NVIDIA software for certain models.

What is the point of this press release?

I suspect to make the point that they haven't given up on NVIDIA to go with Wayve.

Damage control. NVIDIA has a history of attacking companies when they work with NVIDIA's competition. Just ask XFX, ASUS, and the ongoing DOJ case against them.
But when you're dealing with a $5T company and the CEO has an insane man with nuclear codes on speed-dial then you do put out a press release about how much you want to work with them just in case.

Let me explain it clearly for the simpletons.
This press release mentions no vehicle models, no launch dates, no regional availability, no chip specifications, no sensor counts, no financial terms, no capabilities, no new deals.
Under no normal circumstances does a company take the time to issue a press release just to say "we're still doing that thing". This is not important to consumers, it's not important to investors, it is damage control.
After the Wayve announcement there was speculation that Mercedes was moving away from NVIDIA due to delays, software friction, or noncompetitive capabilities. This is not news NVIDIA wants to see in the papers so a tiny company with a market cap of $39.23 billion is forced to release this out of fear of retaliation by the most predatory tech company in history which now even has the power to influence auto-tariffs.

Not surprising. When the Wayve deal was announced, Mercedes put out a statement explaining that they had not given up on Nvidia. This press release just reiterates that. It is clear that Mercedes is pursuing a dual approach. As I said, they don't want to put all their eggs in one basket. If they spread out their partnerships, they have a better chance at successfully deploying a commercial L2+ product.
