A customized and refinished US Revolver top break 32 S&W. A real pocket gun. I wonder who did it.

Picked this up last week. Been wanting one of the UCs. I actually mistakenly thought this was a UC at first because of the shrouded ejector rod but apparently this was a limited run through Davidsons. I don’t see much online about them and I’m curious if the only differences are the rear sight and the factory grips. I bought these high horn VZ grips after the fact. Anyway I’m really enjoying it other than the cost of ammo. And I like the grips too. Buffalo Bore wadcutters is the ammo.

I previously posted a few weeks ago this S&W 30-1 I inherited with the intention of cleaning it up and trying to fix the finishes. I really wanted to keep the original stocks as they are numbered to match the gun.

I stripped the original finish as well as the grime and skin oils off. It went from being black to the original walnut color. Unsure if I should replace the medallions or leave original ones in before sealing it up with Tung Oil.

I took my Model 19-10 and new Taurus 605 to the range today. Here are some photos of them before cleaning them after the shoot and a few after a quick cleaning.

For the target photos, the first target is the first series of shots out of the Taurus shooting .38 special. It did really well (for me) at 7 yards. I don’t have a photo of the first series of shots manufacturers .357 magnum out of it because they were pretty bad. The recoil on it while using the stock grips is fun with .38 special and brutal with .357 magnum. I have big hands and will be looking for larger grips for it.

The second target photo is from my model 19-10 shooting hand loads of .357 magnum using Accurate #5 and 125 grain X-treme Copper Plated bullets using the recipe from the Hodgdon website. They are the softest .357 loads I’ve ever shot. They were also very accurate for me. I am going to be making a lot more of those. It showed me how accurate (no pun intended) my Model 19 can be and that I am the limiting factor, not it.

1950s Colt Det Spl or 1970s Smith M36?

Hey yall!
I’m looking to purchase my first vintage snub nose. This would be carried and shot at the range, not a safe queen. Which one should I pick up?

- 1951 Colt Detective Special w/ Grip Adaptor 5/10 condition for $650
- 1976 Smith Model 36 in 8/10 condition for $540

I’d assume the older Colt would probably be more collectible, I am unsure. Which would be better for EDC and shootability?

WGW - Ruger LCR & Taurus 942

Post image
• Upvotes

My current revolver lineup: a Ruger LCR and Taurus 942. Both chambered in 22LR, it’s been a fun year learning the basics of shooting a revolver with these two. I’m looking at getting a Ruger Wrangler to have a single-action revolver in the collection.

Will be getting a revolver in .38/.357 next year for sure.

The State of Ruger

Ruger’s in a bind regarding their revolvers… if they want to maintain their traditional “working class” appeal, they have to compete with Taurus and their 856, 650, 66, and other models… if they want to compete with Smith and Colt, they have to step their game up and become more refined and… “elegant”.

Charter Arms isn’t even a player in this particular game at this point in time… the only thing of theirs that interests most folks is the Bulldog, and we all know what .44 Spl costs. If Taurus was to bring back the 431 under Heritage as part of the Roscoe line with a 2” and 3” barrel; it’d knock Charter out of the race entirely (in my opinion).

Don’t get me wrong- I love the old Charters… generally well made, well fit, and well finished… the new ones ? Looks like a blind machinist and a 5yo got together and made ‘em.

Kimber is discontinued, and Diamondback is still a small-fry with their SDR (though it is NICE).

Ruger’s SA revolvers and large frame DA are… irrelevant to this conversation. For every 1 Redhawk sold, I’d bet there was 200 LCR’s or SP101’s sold, and the Vaquero is catering to a sport that’s dying faster than the folks shooting it… there are very few enlightened outdoorsmen anymore- most worship at the alter of the 10mm. Their big seller, their ticket to get back in the market (if they decide to do so) will have compete with and be better than Taurus’s 856 and Smith’s 642/637.
