Foreign Policy/International Relations Bama MPP Program

Does anyone know anything about Bama’s MPP program that is admitting its first cohort in Fall 2027? I am contemplating applying to their program but I am a bit concerned given that it is a new program. My goals are to study IR and health policy, and to get into strategy consulting.

i'd be a little wary of a brand new program without any alumni network or established recruiting pipelines, especially if you're aiming for strategy consulting

A few things as someone who’s been in consulting (not MBB) for awhile:

- Outside of a very few select programs, MPPs are not a good entry point for strategy consulting.

  • Even for more general management consulting, new programs with no network aren’t the way to go.
  • IR and health policy are pretty unrelated.
  • IR and health policy are iffy as entry points into strategy consulting.
  • I’m leery of red state MPPs in general, as you’re going to have fewer government jobs available and the ones you do have will not pay particularly well.
