calling php an old framework is ... an odd choice for words

Well it's not a server, but it has a request interface and a templating language as a core part of its programming model
php-cgi is a basic web framework that comes built into the language

my bad
half dead/almost in the grave web framework

u/JackSprat47 4h ago
Yeah it's so dead.
Nowhere uses it.
....
Not a single site.

My favorite part about big security incidents like this is seeing all the people that non-ironically use terms like ‘real developer’ crawl out of the woodwork to share their very strongly held opinions on things they obviously know nothing about and make themselves look like the absolute clowns they are.

PHP powers about 70% of websites.
Also, it's a language, not a framework.
You should have stopped at the meme.

u/shgysk8zer0 4h ago
Yeah, I know. Right? My favorite framework is Rust. And the C framework is old and half dead.

Oldest web framework is naked HTML.

Wait what makes html a framework
Maybe I don't know what framework means after al

PHP isn’t a framework it’s Satan’s programming language of choice.

No that's Perl, easy to deceive people
41
u/JollyJuniper1993 4h ago
No, Perl is the amphetamine of programming languages. It’s fun to use but will not be good for you or anybody around you.

u/Aware-Individual-827 3h ago
Any lisp language too. It's probably the necronomicon of programming languages. Very occult and all the fancy modern feature of the new programming language in one of the oldest.Â

u/AlterTableUsernames 2h ago
What against Lisp? I don't know any syntax, but afaik it's a functional programming language and hence a piece of the inherently superior programming paradigm we will soon all converge to. Also Scheme is based on it and Scheme is the basis of GNU Guix' Guile, which makes it something I really like, because the declarative is the only valid way of operating systems.

No, that's matlab

u/newontheblock99 4h ago
Meh, MATLAB is just a Jupyter notebook with extra steps.

u/Prawn1908 4h ago
The only people who hold this sentiment are those who have only use Matlab as a student in some class that forced you to use it instead of a calculator. Matlab is incredibly powerful and blows all of Python's libraries out if the water at what it was actually made to do, especially when you start talking about solving differential systems and integrating system models with IRL data aquisition and controls systems (Python has no analogue to Simulink).
Matlab isn't a programming language so much as it's a piece of a software with its own programming language. The problem is there are tons of people who have just used it as a more cumbersome calculator in like 3 classes in undergrad so have the impression that it's some shitty scripting language. It's kind of like being forced to use a chainsaw to sharpen your pencils and then going and saying chainsaws suck.

Found the Mathworks employee

u/Prawn1908 3h ago
Nope lmao. Just a mechanical (and now embedded software) engineer who actually uses Matlab in industry and used it a fair amount for controls modeling in a research lab back in school.

u/newontheblock99 2h ago
Nah, I had to learn it to then teach it to undergrads so they could use it for data analysis. Everything we had them do in matlab is easily done in Python. Then on the topic of relevant skills, having students use Python for scientific analysis is way more beneficial for them in the long term. Not saying that there isn’t spaces for matlab because it is very prevalent in various engineering environments (to give an example), but Python more far reaching.

Ok then so you're the one teaching people to sharpen pencils with a chainsaw lmao. Those are the exact classes I'm talking about where people come out thinking Matlab sucks.

I had to use it heavily in a DSP class and while I eventually got to a place where I didn’t outright hate it, mannnnnn that was a hard syntax to make click in my head lol.
With that said I’m a big believer in the idea that if I think a language is bad I just haven’t used it for what it’s best at, and by the end of that DSP class when I had to decode DTMF tones for the final I almost saw the vision.
I will however state that that function definition syntax is unhinged.
2
u/Prawn1908 1h ago
Oh yeah the language syntax is definitely really weird (and function definitions are really fucking weird). As a software engineer, that drives me nuts but I recognize that I'm an anomaly as far as the general userbase of the language in that I am actually also a software engineer. The majority of the engineers, mathematicians and physicists who use the software don't care because they don't write lots of code in other languages.
In general here I'm just pointing out that the language has a purpose which is very different than the languages that most software engineers on this sub are used to, so judging it as if it's just another language is stupid.

I don't know why but the spicy math part is making me angry. the left side implies that you should take a dot product, but the right side shows a cross product. Am i justified in this anger or am i just not as math literate as I used to be.

u/Gaious_Octavious 4h ago
no it is simple matrix multiplication if i am not mistaken
21
u/hasanyoneseenmyshirt 4h ago
a . b (i dont know how to raise the period) is not the same as a x b in linear algebra. a dot product gives you a scalar and a cross product gives you back a matrix.
40
u/evil0sheep 4h ago
Each element of the C is the dot product between a row of A and a column of B, and the dot is the correct notation for standard matrix multiplication

u/Crate-Of-Loot 4h ago
that is between vectors

u/DontDoodleTheNoodle 3h ago
Vectors are just 1D matrices (or 2D squashed to one size column/row if you really want to be pedantic). Rules still apply. Idk what the hell is on the left side of the screen but a dot product between vectors should not be notated like that.
9
u/FabulousFork 4h ago
This is pretty standard notation for matrix multiplication, which is what the right side represents. Dot product and cross product are typically defined for vectors (used also in the entries of the resulting matrix on the right side, which are scalars), not for matrices.

makes sense. I just have ptsd from "strength of materials" class and ever since AI became a thing in the mainstream, matrixes and anything affiliated with them gets a visceral response. I don't even look at a python project if it uses TensorFlow. lol
2
u/GuybrushThreepwo0d 4h ago
all my homies hate strength of materialsÂ
3
u/hasanyoneseenmyshirt 4h ago
I don't even know why I took that class as a finance major. I think I wanted to build a sex swing and was, who am i kidding still am, going through a "chubby chaser" phase.

u/GuybrushThreepwo0d 3h ago
Oh my god that is the best reason I have ever heard for someone to subject themselves to the most hated subject in mechanical engineering hahahahaÂ

u/the-grand-finale 4h ago
Can someone explain the joke? Is the joke that AI is bad at PHP? I dont get it
22
u/zacguymarino 4h ago
There was a large php exploit today. I haven't looked into it but I think AI found it, and AI is made of the spicy math.
25
u/Alarming_Panic665 3h ago
well technically one of the bugs was discovered in 2024. But it wasn't really prioritized because they didn't realize how bad of an exploit it was. Then in August 2026 an AI-driven review rediscovered the bugs and demonstrated how highly exploitable they actually were which prompted an emergency patch.
