Law&CrimeTea ⚖️ 🫆 Multiple Reports of Voting Machines Flipping Votes to Republican Candidates Automatically

This isn’t just happening in Tennessee. There are reports of voters in other states experiencing touchscreen voting machines changing their selections from Democratic to Republican candidates.

Please check, double-check, and TRIPLE-CHECK your ballot before submitting it. Make sure every vote reflects your choice. If something looks wrong, alert a poll worker before casting your ballot.

Voting in person is generally very susceptible for things like this.  What we need is an anonymous ballot delivered to every person, a receipt generated for that vote, then the vote to be publicly viewable and archivable online before certification.  Anyone should be able to challange an election vote with the receipt and enough challenges should result in a re-election before certification.  Whenever you mail your ballot in, do it online, etc it should be viewable online.

No it’s not better with paper, it’s just more hidden.  The largest election fraud in U.S. history was under a paper ballot system.

You can't make a cast ballot reviewable because then you've opened the system to vote coercion.

Imagine your spouse, boss, landlord, insurance company, local crime syndicate, etc. demanding to see how you voted or face consequences. Not hypothetical, all things that have happened in reviewable vote systems.

There's a reason that once you cast your ballot, it's no longer tied to you. You can only show that you voted, not how you voted.

You mean lioe mail in voting?

It would be recorded at the time and viewable by the receipt holder then publicly available the day of the last votes and challengeable until certification.  But we really should be pushing to digital as it makes tracking it way better.  As you’d be able to verify a digital receipt against your vote all the way through (while remaining anonymous).

This sounds like crypto. Which is very secure. So secure that with a little social engineering, you could easily steal someone's login info, submit a false ballot, and very securely and irreversibly steal their vote.

If millions of Americans get phished for their bank PIN, email login, and NFT keys every year, I don't see any universe in which voting online is any more "secure" than putting a piece of paper in a box.

You talking about Bush v Gore in 2000? That ended up being decided (thrown) by SCOTUS. The whole hanging chad thing. The only thing similar to that nowadays is the fact that the ballot is a physical piece of paper.

That’s the largest one as it decided the election.  Al Gore won that election under the standard rules and they basically made up stuff to give it to Bush.

But there are a lot of paper ballot issues.  In Nc in 2018 there was paper ballot fraud and they ordered a new election because of it.  In 2023 there was a new election ordered in Connecticut because they tampered with paper mail in ballots.

Voting with machines is very susceptible for things like this. You could just have hand filled ballots in both places.

An online system where we can back check our vote was accepted and what we entered is what was accepted. It’s 2026, anyone with spreadsheet software access should be able to download results of some kind and verify them.

This is dumb. Why is this dumb? Because then you don't have anonymous ballots. If you hold the receipt, you can prove you voted a certain way, and you can get paid for it. Or killed for it.

(edit: Oh, right, u/Moron-Whisperer... Sorry, my mistake)

Musk paid people to vote a certain way

This is literally how it works in Washington State. We are given a vote-by-mail paper ballot. That ballot is sealed when we turn it in. As soon as it's accepted by the state, we're able to confirm its acceptance online.

But ever since Trump's cronies started meddling with USPS, I've stopped mailing mine in. Thankfully our state gives us plenty of secure drop boxes as an alternative. The system here works.

And no, somebody's ballot should not be viewable online.

Hi. Unscrupulous antidemocratic operative here. If my candidate is losing I’m going to arrange enough of their supporters to challenge their own vote to overturn the result.

Wut?

“enough challenges should result in a re-election” is a fatal flaw in the proposal because it can be easily gamed.

You’ll need to be able to provide receipts and it would need to be significant.  And at that point you just revote, you don’t win.  There isn’t a court decision for winner, ever.

I don’t need to win. I just need to delay indefinitely so you can’t seat your representative. I get your law removed because I make it impossible to run an election I lose.

You can’t have a system that allows the loser to nullify the election unless you trust the loser to play fair.

Which we clearly can no longer do.
