And since the women aren’t supposed to talk to each other…
No undercover training of midwives from previous medical professionals.
Even in fictional Gilead they had ‘Aunts’ who knew some very basic information about childbirth and could call in a male doctor in extremis to save the child.
The Taliban are going to find that they don’t have much of a population if mothers have zero help giving birth.

They also are forced to cover up as well as forced into silence
Built in way to hide abuse. Perfect system for patriarchal control

Man, this made me think of that conversation between Brian Suave and Eric Conn which is distilled perfectly by this quote:
Right? We consider normal women like all these things, women having political rule. We consider normal women living unattached from a male like a husband, like a father than a husband for lengthy periods of time. We consider normal, you could fill in the blank with normal, you could fill in the blank with all of these modern feminist outworkings of the original feminist vision. And what they've done is they've made women anxious, psychotic, depressed, miserable, and genocidally evil.
Here's a link to the Majority Report's coverage of it. It just baffles me that these people have such little capacity for self reflection. They never question why they believe these things, and they never question what these beliefs do to those they subject to them. If only they'd consider that they are the ones who make "women anxious, psychotic, depressed, [and] miserable." I'm not so sure about "genocidally depressed," IMO that part seems like projection.

u/LingonberryHot8521 9d ago
It's interesting because from what I understand, that podcast was recorded after word got out how oppressive the Taliban is in terms of yes - women are not allowed to gather together and speak with each other without male supervision and control.
And what do these guys do? Record themselves basically praising the practice while omitting who is actively practicing it.
The American Conservative Christian movement really is its own form of this Taliban.

You do know who ran Afghanistan before 2001, right?
The brief period that women enjoyed any semblance of rights in Afghanistan was because of American intervention. When the Taliban regained control, they simply went back to the same way they were operating before October 2001.
1
u/Majestic_Artichoke55 9d ago
America did a great job…..
2
u/DuelingPushkin 9d ago
Nobody's saying they did a great job. But your assertion that women in Afghanistan don't have rights as the result of American intervention is just factually incorrect.
1
u/BackgroundSquare8409 9d ago
Lies. Afghanistan women liked American soldiers and were afforded more freedom during and after occupation. Al quieda reentered the region in 2016 bc the irgc/ayatollah gave Hamas one billion dollars. Your ignorance disgusts me. Afghanistan women told NPR in like 2011/2013 that they can drive, congregate, girls can go to school and they liked that. 2016 all girls were removed from school. Why doesn’t anyone care about the truth anymore???

If that’s the case, why is the right against Islam and “Islamophobic” meanwhile the left is somehow allies and defend Islam?
22
u/AppropriateScience9 9d ago
Because they want a Christian version of oppression. Not Islamic oppression. Besides, Christian oppression in the US led by mostly white people.
The left defends religious liberty for everyone including Muslims. A lot of people, Muslim and Christian alike, are perfectly good people and don't actually support extremism. So they should be allowed to practice whatever they want in their own home and church/mosque - as long at they aren't hurting anyone or trying to force their beliefs on others.
America used this approach - per the Constitution - for ages and it worked perfectly fine. I find it very interesting that the right is now against the Constitution.
5
9
u/CleanSeaPancake 9d ago
Because the right wants the same thing as Islamic theocracy in Christian flavor, which has considerable overlap for obvious reasons.

u/SLAMMERisONLINE 9d ago
If republicans had their way, this is what America would be like as well.
OP's narrative is borderline delusional. Basically it breaks power down into two groups--formal and informal--claims formal is more powerful and that men held a disproportionate amount of it in history. Now the issue here is if men hold a larger amount of power and this power is superior to other forms of power, how is it that the feminist movement ever found success? Obviously informal power is the superior form of power else it would've been quashed by formal power. They can't define a theory that is consistent with itself, let alone the actual data.

u/glitterdunk 9d ago
Well, try getting an illness that only or mainly affect women.
Then suddenly it doesn't matter where you live, in Afghanistan or western countries; you are still unlikely to get any treatment, and you are way too fucking likely to die. If you have the wrong illness they may even actively destroy what health you have and directly or indirectly kill you. Imagine being involuntarily sent to a mental hospital "for anorexia" when you are too sick for your body to handle normal food.... Death sentence. And this is happening now.

Actually the Left cheered Iran slaughtering and raping women a few months ago. They see Hamas as an ally and have a strong policy of never objecting to Islamic violence. The Right has plenty of its own misogynistic old fashioned BS, but let's stop playing games. The Left doesn't care about women either.
9
u/Interesting_Berry439 9d ago
I don't support Iranian slaughter of their own citizens. The gop bombed a all girls school in Iran killing 168 kids. Every accusation is a confession.

That never made the news.. Can you provide a reputable source for this?
1
u/MagReg2020 9d ago
Anna on TYT dismissing the people killed by Iran as being agents placed by the Jews? That's on TYT's own channel. Every leftist major youtube channel and blog regurgitated that talking point, hosting people like "professor" Marandi, without disclosing his direct family ties to the Iranian regime.

Women in the US with ectopic pregnancies find themselves in a similar situation.
8
u/OldSarge02 9d ago
Afghanistan is a hellhole. We spent 20 years trying to fix it. We educated a generation of girls. Be built schools and hospitals. We supported a democratic government. In spite of the ongoing conflict, the life expectancy in Afghanistan increased by 8 years!
It didn’t work. The maniacs kept fighting, and Afghanistan let them take over. It’s a hellish situation, but the West did everything it could and failed.

America was largely responsible for funding, training and arming the mujahideen during the Cold war, and the mujahideen eventually evolved into the modern day Taliban.

Moderator man says I’m off topic, but maybe they should be asking themselves how the taliban got in power. Also who empowered them with the arms, finances, and resources to make such a regulations a possibility. The answer all comes back to the US and its interference in the Middle East. I’ve been watching the Iraq/ Afghan conflict, rebuild, and now restructuring in real times since I was in short pants.

Not to be semantic, but this problem for these women is mainly due to the sexism, bigotry, ignorance, control, and hate in their leadership. Not necessarily because the leaders are men, but because they are bad people. Their religious beliefs, traditions, and culture also contribute to the issue.
I say this because deflecting from the real problem, and blaming a gender (or something else) when the real issue is deeper, doesn't actually target the problem. When people use the wrong words that don't accurately identify the problem, society is less likely to actually solve it, or improve anything.
Patriarchy is simply male leadership. There's plenty of examples of societies lead by men, who actually prioritize the well-being of women and children. Men are also perfectly capable of making a world a better place for everyone.
The problem isn't men. Men aren't evil just for being men. Hating on men is not the solution. Many men in that society are taught to hate from a young age by their religion.
The problem, in this particular case, is complex. If you want a good spot to start to fix the issue, look at how the religious beliefs in these areas of the world teach men to treat women. The problem is religious teachings and indoctrination of children into hateful and bigoted ideas. These societies would greatly benefit from some shifts in their perspective, and need to distant themselves from their local predominant religion.
I would advice women in these kinds of countries to not marry men who hold hateful beliefs about women. Women could start telling men around them, that they're only willing to marry men who treat women as partners, not property. That would pressure these hateful men to make better choices, and some may start to question their bigotry.
3
u/Old-Razzmatazz5446 9d ago
“Women are literally dying at these men’s hands but I’m rewlly upset you mad fun of the men who, at literally any point, could stop this and instead i’m gonna tell women whose husband will literally take them out into the streets beat and rape them to death that they need to start telling those men they won’t marry them unless they are nice”
I would never use the R word, but I came really close to thinking it with how unbelievably ignorant and stupid your last comment was

This. There are much more extreme crimes against feminism, and yet we see the mosts protests where women have the most rights.
5
u/Middle_Finger_484 9d ago
It's easy to protest when you don't have to worry about getting shot.
It's easy to protest when your family's safety isn't threatened by you being in the area.
3
u/Lichondis 9d ago
Its because one of the rights they have is protesting. Imagine a bunch of afghani women protesting. That's not gonna go over very well. Much worse if they can't all find a related male chaperone willing to take them out to protest. They'd be protesting the religious proscriptions against women, and I'm fairly certain that would be considered blasphemy and punishable by death.
5
u/Familiar-Cable-2659 9d ago
This is stupid
Of course rights and protests are correlated, what do you think happens when they protests without the right to protest ?
1
u/ThisGuy2319 9d ago
Not having the right to protest is exactly why people should protest? I very much doubt the men in power in the US just went “you know what? We had our fill of abusing marginalized groups, let’s give this ‘civil rights’ thing a go for shits and giggles’.” Also, that would be a much more worthy cost for people to go to another country and protest instead of saying that teachers need more money (which they desperately do).
3
u/soulsafe 9d ago
There's also a stiff difference between getting thrown in the slammer for illegally protesting and your government opening automatic fire into a crowd. It's not worth protesting your living conditions when there's a pretty solid chance they'll just kill you.
1
u/ThisGuy2319 9d ago
I would say that’s more of a reason to protest, but I understand the avoidance of doing so due to the severe repercussions.
