Purposely misused by people who don’t want women to have equality and this misuse latched onto by the uneducated and deliberately ignorant so they can dismiss criticism of their skewed upbringings.
No it is a movement dedicated solely to harming men and making women superior. Feminism never helps men EVER. In fact feminists actually STOP men from getting the help they need
The definition does not dictate the actions mate. Actions speak far louder than words and feminists actions harm men constantly. They get men's abuse shelters shut down assuming those shelters even get funding in the first place which feminists do not advocate to make happen. They shut down online spaces that are dedicated to helping men claiming they are misogynistic. They spread hashtags like "killallmen" (imagine if men had a hashtag like killallwomen and how quickly the person who came up with it would be banned from any and all social media) the list goes on and on and on if I listed everything we'd be here all day. Oh and btw the actual definition is "a women's rights campaign" nowhere in that definition does it say they want equality and they definitely DO NOT because equality means looking at your own privileges and saying "that's not fair to others" something that when it comes to men women refuse to do. They don't care about the suicide rates of men. That's literally all I have to say I don't even need to list the other issues the fact they don't care that thousands of men are taking their own lives every day proves all on its own feminists do not care about men
No it is feminist. You just refuse to accept it. Feminism like it's name suggests is ONLY about getting more rights and privileges for WOMEN. Men are only on the radar to be torn down and slapped with a sweeping generalization that normalizes hating men for just existing. Feminists do NOTHING that directly helps men ever the only things they've done that helped men were because helping men were byproducts of their fight to help women and they couldn't rig it to only help women. The FBI definition of rape doesn't include female on male rape and no feminist is advocating for it to do that. The penetration definition only happened because a massive portion of the violence against women was ignored under the old definition. That's it that's why they changed it. The paternity leave push was originally only about maternity leave until they found out pushing for that only made women less competitive in the work place. And the claim they are the reason the draft is inactive is just a flat out lie
Yes women have done nothing but harm men. My mother beat me as a child and yet I knew even then not to report it because it wouldn't be taken seriously. Her friend made inappropriate comments TO A CHILD and my mother laughed it off
Sounds like you need therapy instead of just hating women friend. Sounds like maybe you might have been abused and that's caused some issues with you and you should go work on yourself.
I don't hate women. I'm just not stupid enough to believe they care about men. And I have gone to therapy and I only managed to get female therapists who said all kinds of nonsense about how it's MY fault. And how I am a potential abuser so I deserved it
It IS misused constantly. The word means advocacy for women's interests, under the rationale of equality, but not necessarily, as there are numerous counterexamples. The word for advocating for equal treatment is egalitarianism and humanism
Except egalitarians are ahistorical people who think the universe started in 2000. I literally only hear that word when people talk about feminism. Sure the definition is the same but I rarely see “egalitarians” defend women lol.
I don’t see egalitarians at town hall meetings or being politically active. They don’t really care about equality.
It’s just a word to deflect from people who actual want equality: feminists.
We aren't at town hall meetings because if we dare speak up for men at all we are threatened. We want TRUE equality and that means speaking up for men too. And all that gets us is threats and violence directed towards us. We aren't ahistorical we know what women went through for thousands of years we just don't let that skew our stance at all: EVERYONE deserves justice EVERYONE needs to be helped and EVERYONE needs to work together to achieve it. One group having it worse doesn't mean you ignore another groups suffering PERIOD
Feminists get criticized and threatened all the time but they care about their cause enough to get past it. You say you’re not being ahistorical but your comment says otherwise. That’s all I’ll say on that matter.
No, this isn’t what feminism means. And I don’t understand why so many feminists try to reduce it to this and then wonder why it doesn’t work as a framework for understanding gender.
Feminism is better understood as a set of different frameworks, some of them mutually incompatible, concerned with gendered power imbalances, gender identity, and the analysis of misogyny according to particular theoretical and methodological commitments.
Simply defining feminism as “the notion that women are people and deserve equal rights” is a form of definitional reduction, and it’s simply wrong. You can’t collapse a vast array of competing methodologies, diagnoses, and proposed remedies into one uncontroversial slogan and then treat that slogan as an adequate definition of the entire tradition.
Moreover, the normative claim that “women are people and deserve equal rights” is not uniquely feminist. It can be grounded in classical liberalism, utilitarianism, various human rights frameworks, and other political and ethical traditions.
Honestly, it’s frustrating to see online feminists constantly reducing a complex body of thought to simplistic slogans. If anything, that kind of reductionism makes it harder to have a serious discussion about what feminism actually argues, how its different frameworks disagree with one another, and what those frameworks are actually trying to accomplish.
I will believe that when the feminist movement starts holding women accountable for perpetuating the patriarchy by wanting men to ask women out first or for paying for the first date.
I actually have read Bell Hooks. Doesn't change anything. Feminism is not about helping men. Only women their actions consistently prove this. Even every claim that they make about "well we got this thing put in place" only happened because the focus was on women. The FBI changing the definition of rape still doesn't include female on male violence in it's definition only penetration and that was solely because women were unhappy about how many of the sex crimes against women were going unpunished thanks to the old definition. The claim they killed the draft is just a flat out lie. And the idea that they pushed for paternity leave is only partially true at first they only pushed for MATERNITY leave. The only reason they switched to paternity is because sticking strictly to maternity leave made women less competitive in the workplace. So as always Feminism stays true to it's name it is about WOMEN not equality
I can understand why my comment might seem pedantic, or like a misplaced reaction to an otherwise uncontroversial “tagline.” But I think the relevant issue is the causal model underlying the shared normative premise.
Imagine two people who both believe that women are people who deserve to live selfdetermined, free lives on equal footing with men. They can genuinely agree on that normative principle and even on the broad goal of improving women’s lives, while having radically different ideas about what causes the problems women face and therefore what should be done about them.
One person might understand gender inequality primarily through an analysis of patriarchal power structures and consequently advocate broad cultural and institutional changes. Another might arrive at the same normative commitment through a completely different ideological framework and instead emphasize things like demographic change, immigration policy, family structure, or other factors.
Those are admittedly extreme examples, but I think they illustrate the point: normative agreement does not establish theoretical or causal agreement. People can share the same values and goals while having very different models of the world and therefore arriving at very different solutions.
So I don’t object to the image as a tagline. My point was that “women are people and deserve equal rights” is a broadly shared normative commitment, not something uniquely constitutive of feminism. It tells us very little about the theoretical framework used to explain gender inequality or the solutions that follow from it.
Oh my bad. I completely misunderstood what you meant by ‘tagline’ I thought you were saying I was overreading the slogan. The clothing tag pun went completely over my head.
Oh yes, the relevant issue is definitely the “causal model underlying the shared normative premise.” 🙄 You’re going to win over a lot of the working class with that 👍🏼
Feminism is about advocating for women's interests. Equality is the stated reason, but equality is secondary, because there are plenty of areas where mainstream and institutional feminism is advocating against equal treatment and laws in many countries
Wrong, as usual, and thus why modern actual feminists don't like using the word feminists, cause most of the wrong feminist believe this is the definition haha
I can't speak how prevalent this sentiment is outside of twoxchromosome and subs like it but therein it's very prevalent.
The reason that I think it's important what people in those subs think is because they're extremely loud in discussions related to feminism and they play a significant role in shaping the mainstream narrative.
This is probably one of the reasons why feminists are made fun of. They never try to understand the nuances behind each disagreement. They have to paint others evil to justify their own existence.
Feminism in sociology is just one perspective. It should not be treated as unquestionable truth.
I... feel like this comes off as more derogatory than it intends. Like it seems more like it's mocking feminism than it is being a tongue and cheek joke that 'we just want equality and to be treated like people'.
It comes off as a middle aged guy living in his mom's basement saying "Silly women think they are people" more so.

The word is so misused that even contestants on jeopardy didn't know the word and it just means women deserve equal treatment to men.
